    If you put a little bit of soap into the hose then screw the head back on it will spray a foam spray out of the jet hose head covering the insects with a foamy coating.

    In dealing with Demon Yellow Jackets, dawn soap has been my go to ... Mix a large bottle with 2 or 3 gallons of water wait until late evening when they're all home then pour the soapy water down the hole ... Problem solved ...

    A cloud of yellow jackets attacked me recently and chased me 40-50 yards, stinging me the entire time. I snuck up on them later, doused the flying ones with gasoline and poured a gallon of gasoline down their hole. Problem solved, hopefully. I had to see a doctor the next day about the continued extreme pain from the stings.

      The best thing that I have found is to mark the hole in the daytime with sticks or something. You will need to find it again after dark. Come back after dark the just pour about 1/2 cup of gasoline down the hole. Everytime I have done this, they are gone the next day. If you dig, you will find dead yellowjackes in the ground. DO NOT light the gasoline. The fumes is what gets them. Also, especially in the day, wear a white or light colored shirt. They evolved with bears so if you are wearing black, they will attack you thinking you are a bear. Seriously. I found a nest last evening while brush mowing. I had a white shirt on. I only got stung once - on the back of my calf thru my loose fitting pants. I brushed several off of me.
      I may try the dish soap remedy the next time. But I know gasoline works, it isn't much (1/2 cup) and is cheap.

      This happened to me when I was about 5. I sat at the ground playing at the edge of our yard, and I didn’t know there was an underground nest there. Several flew up the back of my shirt and stung me as I ran crying. When my dad got home, he poured gas down their hole. Later he hooked the plow to the tractor and plowed them up.

      I just discovered a yellow jacket nest in my yard for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago. I tried covering the hole and it made things worse like this guy said. I took the spray nozzle off the hose and brought it close to the hole, poured in about a cup of dish soap and stuck the hose in there. I let it run for a while alternating more squirts of soap. Workerd like a charm. Just to cover all bases, I poured some gas down in there as well and stuffed the whole full of gravel and pounded it in with a hammer. Haven't seen any since.

    Not sure if yellow jackets or orange hornets, but the sting of one felt like a swift rock hitting me in the face, swelled up good too. Steroid shot & some meds have helped. I was mowing and got caught by surprise, glad only 1 sting. I’m gonna give this a try since gasoline is so expensive and soap seems to squirt from a safer distance, wish me luck & pray too! Need to be able to let the dogs out & cut the yard w/o anyone being stung. Thanks for the advice will give it a try before gasoline ⛽️ is used.

    Good info to know. I disturbed a yellow jacket nest using a weed trimmer three days ago. I got stung 5 times; once on the leg, arm, shoulder, twice on my scalp. Hydrocortisone and Benadryl for the itching, stinging and swelling. The nest is a few feet away from the neighbor kid’s swimming pool.

    If you have the time, you can mark the nest entrance with a long stick to be able to find it at night. Mix some dish soap in a bucket of hot water or even cold water. At night pour the soapy water over the nest opening. Check for their traffic the next day and repeat if necessary the following night.

    Ground wasps in TN always have TWO entrances, a main entrance and then an escape entrance, both patroled by sentries. One entry, usually the escape entrance, must be closed off to treat the nest. If not the wasps wills warm out, chase you down, and make life miserable.

    Best way is locate the hole where they go in the ground. After dark when they are all in the hole pour about 5 or 6 ounces of gas down the hole. DO NOT LIGHT it. Next morning the yellow jackets will be dead in their hole. The gas fumes kill them.

    Good tip about the soap. Bifenthrin and carbaryl in a 5 gallon bucket of water usually works. Also, wasps serve no purpose for pollination. It's honey bees that do pollination. Wasps live mainly on protein and attack honeybees and eat them for the protein.

    • @oregonarboriculture4071
      @oregonarboriculture4071  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wasps attack garden pests like worms that eat my plants. I have a lot of red wasps this year, but my plants are doing great because nothing is eating them. When I see a wasp in the garden, it's patrolling for bugs, but it leaves me alone. The only time I get stung is when they try to build a nest in my porch ceiling.

    • @KimClark-1
      @KimClark-1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Wasps actually do eat garden pests like caterpillars and they also eat nectar. I have watched them do both. I don’t kill wasps. If you allow paper wasps to have a safe space in your yard, they will allow you to watch them build their nest and observe some really cool behaviors.

Luckily I spotted the nest and drove a way. But I ALWAYS keep a gallon of concentrated commercial insect killer on hand. I could reach this nest with a hose and an a hose spreader set on stream.
