I was sentenced to 16 years and served a total of 18 years at the Sing Sing correctional facility in New York. I beat a man with my hands and he suffered irreversible brain damage. Do to the nature of my crime, part of the agreement from my attorney and part of the sentence was to have me in solitary confinement for my 16 year term. That didn’t happen, the guards placed a cellie with me that was serving 368 days for domestic violence. Needless to say, he comes into my cell holding his gear, I told him to leave the guard said “he’s all you Quik”, that was the nickname they had given me. I sat on my spread and the guy sits on the floor. I asked him what u in for ? He says my old lady got stupid and I had to put her in her place. That made me think, and i says to him “a man don’t hit a woman” I stood from my bunk and slapped him so hard I can feel the pulse of my heart beating on the palm of my hand. I beat him so bad he was in the informatory for nearly 10 days with a collapse lung. Another time there was this child molester that had mop duties, he loved to whistle while he mopped. I hated that whistle of his, so I was on the second flight meaning second floor of the prison, so I call him over and from a distance he says “what do you want ?, I told him I needed him to fly a kite to an inmate on the first floor. He says tomorrow I can cause I’ve dont the first floor already. The next day I can hear that annoying whistling getting closer and closer to my block, and I fold a piece of paper. He reaches my block and says you have that kite, I said yeah, and I reached through my bars and grabbed him with my hands on both his shirt and pulled him as hard as I could into the steel bars. His forehead exploded like a piñata, blood splattered all over my face, and white gear. I pulled him back and forth so many times my arms were dead tired and my hands couldn’t hold him any longer. I ended up dropping him and it took the guards over 5 minutes to help him that was outside of a closed cell. He screamed at the top of his lungs for help and not a single guard helped him. During my sentencing they added an extra year for that incident as well. This guy that shot them cops, the guards will set him up to get beat at least once a week. They’ll cut his water for two days straight. Prison is hell: in case some are trying to judge me for what I have done, I was 21 years old when I was incarcerated and I was attending Niagara University and the reason I was incarcerated was because the sister of a best friend of mine was raped on campus, and I caught up to the guy at a party. We had a verbal argument and me being 6’3” and. 245lbs. He had no chance. But I don’t regret it, I stood up for a defenseless female, and although it ruined my life maybe god will judge me as not a bad person. I know two wrongs don’t make a right, but I’m just hoping. Thank you for reading my experience, and maybe it’ll show and teach someone prison really is survival of the biggest.
