I think what’s heartbreaking when watching the MV is knowing this is Suga’s story. It’s not just a drama, it actually happened to him and he’s showing us his trauma. I’m humbled by his vulnerability.
His growth and evolution through music is beautiful… took him a long time to be able to be this vulnerable… everyone has their process.. looking at his … it’s hard not to feel pride and respect for him
Yes, the accident really happened when he was a trainee in the company. (PS, it will be a longer comment) He was working part-time as a delivery guy to pay for his education because his family couldn't afford it. One day, he got into an accident and he didn't tell anybody because he was afraid that the company would say he can't be a trainee anymore and kick him out. So he kept quiet about it, but he had a shoulder injury and was in pain. I guess that he really kinda became addicted to those painkillers as we saw from the music video. As time passed, his injury wasn't getting any better and he ended up telling the company about it and the company actually paid for his medicaments and for his education, too. He still had some trouble with the shoulder throughout the years and eventually got surgery around 2 years ago. + I guess that he also didn't say what happened to his family because he was scared for his mother's health. As he said in the song, she had a heart surgery, therefore I believe she needs to be careful with her medicamenets, stress and health in general. So he kept quiet. He also mentioned being informed about his dad's cancer while working. He went through a lot and the scar is the representation of that. He sings "my amygdala save me" because that is the part of the brain that stores trauma and is responsible for fear and anxiety. He also eats almonds in the video because they help amygdala function.
And the almonds are also a reference to a book called Almond that both he and RM have read (it's on RM's book recommendations list as well) about a man who has trouble processing emotions like fear and anger but it's also about "how love, friendship and persistance can change a life forever". 💜
He mentions in Moving On that his mother has a 'machine in her heart' which means she has a pacemaker or similar device. Pacemakers can cause a lot of health problems and people with them have to be careful in general about a lot of things. That's also a reason why he may have kept it from his mother as well.
We're not 100% what the pills represent. It's unlikely they were pain meds (especially ones that could be addictive) since he refrained from seeing anybody. It's thought that they may symbolize depression medication but we can only speculate. Also, I'm fairly certain another member ended up taking him to the hospital, he lied and said he fell down the stairs and none of the members even knew the truth about what happened for quite some time.
Your amygdala is what triggers your flight or fight responses to anxiety/fear/etc. He wants to erase those things that made his amygdala create a flight/fear response so that he doesn't have to "run away" anymore and can live without the weight of it. Yes, the accident is when he hurt his shoulder that he finally got repaired a couple years ago. It was actually worse than the vid shows...he ended up with his shoulder under the wheel of the car. At the time, he was afraid to say anything for fear of being kicked out of BigHit as a trainee, so he kept silent about the entire incident for a very long time and was in pain a whole lot of the time (to BigHit's credit, when they did find out they did what they could - medical help and they told him they'd pay his tuition fees for school, which is what he was paying for with the delivery job). I'm 62 -- I've had trauma in my life...but for someone so young to have so much trauma is horrible. It shapes you for life, and it's so so hard to get past it. The part about choices gets me. To face the choices you've made and be at peace with them... He's worked so hard on it, and I 'm so glad he has music as an outlet.
It ends very realistically. And Yoongi has never sugar coated the struggle. It's a process that never stops. We have to keep trying to save ourselves by healing, trying, again and again. Bc there's no magic solution. We can't erase or change the past. We can only learn to cope better, in more healthy ways.
Him crashing into the car happened to him irl during his pre debut time. He had a delivery job back then and didn't tell anybody for financial reasons (paying hospital bills and potentially losing his job). He never told Bighit or the member either so his shoulder just healed on its own which caused severe pain over the next ~10 years. He finally got surgery in late 2020 and was absent from some group activities during that time but he recovered and his shoulder is just fine now. He told that story to the members and to the public years later and it's a thing that traumatized him for a long time (so in the mv when he crashes his amygdala aka himself in the room suddenly jumps up creating this trauma and at the end when it's raining it triggers him cause it had rained at that day irl as well). Hope that makes sens, english isn't my first language and I perhaps forgot a few things but that's all I can remember for now.
He has a bit of Limited Mobility in that shoulder, I believe, which is common with shoulder surgery. The Intense choreography with some of the more recent songs finally surpassed the ability of the Injections and Medications to alleviate the pain.
the car accident deeply affected him not because of the injury, but also in so many ways , he refused to tell anyone about it because he was afraid to be kicked out off the band , and then he was forced to pretend to be normal while performing , I find nothing so symbolic in the mv , it's really how I saw the story of him battling his difficulties and hardishps , trying to open the door and leave memories behind, leave depression , fear of losing parents, disappoining them by choosing your dream making music ( chosing your first love ) , harming yourself ( he said in a song I forgot its name that he harmed himself and the first time his parents Heard of that was in therapy) yoongi was and still my idol and my favourite artist , the way he presents himself from the very beginning was so distinguishable for me , I felt so bad when I heard part of his past story , ( how he was so poor to a point where he was forced to shoose between taking the bus or eating lunch in his training years ) and I heard also alot of stuff that happened to him here and there ( I'm a fan of him for like 5 years ) but now , after what been visualised in the MV , I have no more words to describe my feelings , it's like if I just realised that all of what I heard about his hardships is REAL , and it's so painful for me because yoongi like I've said is my favorites artist , he inspired me and confronted me with his lyrics many times , see him vulnerable, week , sick , or depressed is physically painful for me
he asked to watch the 3 mv's amygdala, daechwita and haegeum in this exact order to fully understand what he wanted to express. the scar is a visual representation of his pain, his hurting self, his past memories; that's why it's self-inflicted and not caused by other people. in a way, i believe he tried to give his pain a "real" form, a sort of alter ego, and by giving himself that scar, agust d was finally born, and he was someone he could "use" to express his ugliest feelings, his toughest times, his hurtful experiences. so 'amygdala' explains how agust d is born and i think that in both daechwita and haegeum he tries to k1ll the scarred agust d because he believes it's the only way he can finally let go of his past trauma. i also think that blonde scarred agust d in daechwita and policeman agust d in haegeum didn't exactly d1e. we never got to see blonde agust d d1e, he might still be alive right? and the "smirk" policeman agust d gave before being shot makes me think that he's aware he'll never actually d1e, just as pain will never actually leave yoongi. painful memories will be with us forever, i'm sure yoongi knows that too, and the only way we can move forward isn't trying to erase them, but fully accept them as part of us. that's why scarred agust d keeps coming back in different forms, because yoongi will never be able to get rid of him, because it's part of who he is. fully ranting rn, but yoongi's way of thinking is so deep and he amazes me every single time. and he was the one who scripted both haegeum and amygdala's mv!!! everything that's shown in amygdala really is what he's been going through, (he's already talked about his mom's surgery)!!! so, yeah!!! you're right, the incident is a memory (he crashed against a car in his trainee days, he was working as a delivery boy and hid is pain and dislocated shoulder bc he thought that the company would let go of him as a trainee. instead they paid for his medical bill and college tuition fees so that he could leave his job and all his worries behind) and that triggers his brain and trauma in the mv. also, talking about the almonds, during 'in the soop' he was reading the book 'almond' by sohn won-pyung, it talks about this boy who is affected by an illness that prevents him from having emotions, meaning his amygdala isn't working well. since the amygdala is almond shaped, his mother makes him eat almonds bc she thinks that'll help making his amygdala work better. amygdala is so deep and hurtful and it takes a lot of courage to share our pain and trauma and i'm so grateful that he is in a better place mentally now and feels that he can share it with us. he said he's a lot happier now, but writing amygdala has been very painful and difficult for him bc he had to go through his memories and trauma again, after trying to erase it all this time.
Min Yoongi: aka Suga for BTS and aka August D for solo projects experiencing the accident delivering food (that resulted in a bad shoulder injury, that he didn’t tell company/members for fear of them letting him go. When in fact, BigHit was concerned, told him that he should have told them when it happened, and got him help/eventually surgery.), mother’s medical condition, and then father’s medical condition. All of this struggles and stress, while a trainee/growing up to become a BTS member. WOW, this video does an amazing job showing his deep dreams and thoughts! 👍👏💪🤔😎💜
All the things happening in the MV are events that happened to Yoongi, nothing in there is fiction. The Accident when he worked as a Trainee because Bighit barley could afford rent for BTS Apartment, so Yoongi worked to pay for College and other expensives. His Mom's heart issues, his Dads Cancer, Yoongis medication for Depression OCD alongside the symptoms of self harm, suicidal thoughts, anxiety.
do you remember in the mv Haegeum - on the end he smirks as a bad guy, i assume, that this dark side will always remain with a human, even if he kills it (getting feeling better), it will always re-appear in different "modes"
The crash with the bike is a true story. He broke his shoulder and he wasn’t able to get it fixed until 2020. He went years with a messed up shoulder because at first he didn’t want to jeopardize his position in the group then he didn’t want to slow down the group to get surgery and recover. In a way the pandemic saved his shoulder. His mother’s heart condition and his dad’s liver cancer were real as well. I think it’s really interesting that in the beginning he was able to easily walk to the door but still couldn’t open it and by the end he’s having to crawl because he’s been fighting for so long and he’s tired. He called to himself for help (which is why the Yoongi on the bike started running) but he still couldn’t help himself get out of that dark place because it’s too embedded in his psyche. Sometimes we can’t get over our trauma no matter how hard we try. I relate to Yoongi so much as a survivor of so much violence in my life, especially my childhood. Thank you for this reaction 💜💜💜
Please note the split-second image of a hand holding almonds at 3:31. This is a reference to ALMOND: A NOVEL about a guy who has trouble identifying and describing experienced emotions because of a neuropsychologic condition (alexithymia). The "almond" refers to the amygdala, an almond-shaped area of the brain. Yoongi was seen reading this book in a preview to IN THE SOOP. The book is on Namjoon's recommended list.
When BTS went on a holiday for in the Soop, Yoongi was reading a book called Almonds. In the book a mother feeds her child almonds to activate his/her amygdala because the child could not feel emotions. Suga is seen munching almonds. Yoongi let those experiences scar him and his amygdala activated a very angry Suga in his two earlier mix tape albums. Suga himself mentioned his earlier anger. The scarred Yoongi is Agust D. Common mam Agust D kills the king Agust D in Daechwita. Common man rebellious Yoongi with no scars kills the Agust D police officer/mafia boss with healed scar. In the end we have an unscarred Yoongi. A maturer, calmer, Yoongi.
Hiii! okay this gonna be a long one lol, firstly I loved your reaction and how invested you were in trying to understand💜💜💜. I, myself am not 100% clear but I think I can help out a bit with the confusion. Ok so here goes. !!TRIGGER WARNING!! So the incidents described in the lyrics are all real personal experiences that happened to Yoongi, all of which seemed to have left him with traumatic scars. The accident portrayed in the video occurred when he was a trainee about to debut. He was working in delivery and driving on a bike when he collided with a car that crushed his shoulder. He recalls the moment that his shoulder was under the wheel and he was staring at it thinking about how his dream was going to be lost because of the accident. In the end he ended up lying to the company and telling them he fell down a flight of stairs, so that the company wouldn't let him go and he'd get to keep his dream. He finally was able to get the surgery for his shoulder injury in 2021, when he was missing in action for 'BE' promotions. Though we didn't know previously of his parents ailments those are also very real (its just really hard imagining what he has been through). The scar that he gave to himself I believe has a lot of meaning, some deeper than a lot of us are comfortable with. Firstly for the storyline of the music videos perspective, I think it shows how he got the scar on his face in the first place; it was self-inflicted. Secondly, I think it could be metaphorical for how dealing with with his memories and traumatic experiences have caused his mental health to deteriorate and scar him ( with depression and anxiety... which he has said really affected him before). Lastly I think it could be taken literally, not so much that he has an actual scar on his face, but it could be a memoir for his (sh). It doesn't have to be that he actually inflicted a scar on himself, because we know that's not the only way that, that can be done but Yoongi has referenced and heavily hinted at him (sh)-ing before. In his first mixtape there's a song called "The Last", I think listening to that will help your understanding of Amygdala a lot. He speaks of his depression, anxiety, not wanting to live and other really harsh and sad topics. I think (sh) themes are very present in the video as well, as is depicted with the pills... so yeah, I may be wrong, but the scar is definitely multi-faceted. The music video itself gave us a view of Yoongi trapped inside his mind, traumatised and forever reliving that trauma. (This part I'm trying to interpret and it might get a bit confusing but bear with me) For that last bit there where memory Yoongi decides to get off the bike and run towards helping trapped Yoongi, I think that's him picturing what would could've happened had his amygdala set him free that day. We know the Amygdala controls fear and anxiety, so I'm thinking he often wonders what if that day had he gotten a feeling that just told him " Don't go to work today, something bad might happen" and he acted upon that fear and stayed home, then the accident wouldn't have happened and he wouldn't have been left with the mental trauma. I think that is the scenario we see being acted out, he doesn't bother going to work and tries to free himself from the mental anguish, but fails in opening the door because that's not how it happened. His first choice( like we see in the lyrics) was to go to work and the accident occurred and that outcome cannot be changed, so now he has to live with the hurt and hope to heal, which if the lyrics is any hope, he has healed and is even stronger. So that's my thoughts. Very beautiful MV, very raw and real. I'm really grateful that he shared this with us and allowed us into some of the darkest places of his mind, my respect for him has only contnued to grow honestly. This song has been a way of healing for me and I'm sure it is for many others. I'm so thankful that he was so brave in doing this, he's truly an inspiration. ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW HIS ACTING IS SUPERB, AND HE LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL! I just have to compliment every piece of this work of art. Everything was perfect. (I'm sorry for the long read 😭)
I'm sure you have gotten a lot of comments about this already but I will try to explain to my best ability this mv and share my interpretation as well. So starting with the bike accident, it's what actually happened to yoongi when he was a trainee. He was working part-time as a delivery boy and he got into an accident that caused him his shoulder injury (which he later had surgery for) he basically had to hide this whole accident from everyone bc he wasn't supposed to be working and he was also afraid that they wouldn't allow him to debut with an injury. now onto the other things mentioned and shown in the mv, amygdala is a song according to yoongi where he basically brings back some traumatic moments of his life and is trying to deal with them. amygdala is the place where our traumatic experiences & fears are so yoongi is basically trapped and is reliving these traumatic memories and is trying to escape them. the scar in the eye could very much be metaphorical as you have interpreted it, something traumatic happened that left him with a scar. it could also be self-sabotaging, going against himself and loathing himself for some things (he mentions something similar in his song 'the last') my personal interpretation, once again derived from the song 'the last' is that it could be self-harm in a literal way because some depressed people in order to escape their emotional pain and trauma might physically hurt themselves to musk the pain from emotional to physical and be ''freed'' from the trauma even for just a bit. then with the pills, it could be either him taking medicine for his injury and then he became dependent on it and would take it every time something traumatic happened to numb the pain or another interpretation could be attempted suicide since at one point he was holding and consuming a handful of pills at once (again an interpretation based on previous statements and songs like 'the last') the end could very much be him trying to escape those memories and trauma but realizing it is futile. no matter what he does his amygdala will always remind him of those things and although he has now moved on the fear still exists. sorry for the lengthy interpretation, I just wanted to properly give my take on this amazing video and song. I haven't stopped crying while watching it, although I have already watched it so many times. sharing those things with us and being so vulnerable means so much and it helps so many of us heal too. I just hope he finds comfort in us too and he is now in a better state which seems to be the case! 💜💜
That is true he was fighting bad version of him he didn't like .. I think the one who stuck in the dark room is August D how had bad influence on SUGA because all what he wents through.. and in the end when yoongi couldn't help him it means the clos chapter of August d.
hi rj! the comments already explained the accident and shared that the events mentioned are all true. so regarding the scar in his face, i do have interpretation with this. what I understand is that it is a 'self-inflicted' scar. way back when daewchita was released, lots of people thought that this came from a battlefield but in reality he did it to himself. basically he's battling with himself. another interpretation is that when he released his first mixtape, there's a song 'the last' and he mentioned along the lyrics about how he came to counseling/psychiatrist and the "doctor asked me if i have ever --(beep sounds to censor what was said) and i answered 'i have'" so yeah, take that line as you will but most armys understand it as the doctor asking if he ever thought about harming himself. and by these details comes the scar that he made to himself. i admire him for sharing this raw and honest thoughts with armys.
Yeah, I've been assuming that the eye cut is there to represent other, less visible self-harm. It's a pretty realistic depiction - really rings true to what's going on for a lot of people when they make that choice. So honest. Ow.
Yes the crash actually happened when he had to work part time jobs on the motorcycle before becoming a member of BTS. He hasn't completely healed from the accident so he had to redo the surgery in I believe was 2020.
He was in an accident as a trainee when delivering food. He was hit by a car. He injured his shoulder and feared losing his position so he kept it secret for awhile and worked in pain. He had surgery many years later to fix his shoulder.
People probably told you in more detail, but he got into an accident when he was a trainee and did not tell anyone out of fear of being kicked out. Even the members didn’t know until years later and it messed up his shoulder. A year or so ago his shoulder got so bad that he needed surgery on.
Yoongi talked a bit about it in his documentary. The scar I think is an emotional scar. And he did talk about his accident, it was like in the video, but the car actually hits him, not him hitting the car. It broke his shoulder, and he didn't tell anyone. So yeah, it was worse than what it looked like. He was afraid of getting fired, he was a trainee and wasn't supposed to have a side job. Daechwita - the mad king is his 2016 self, and the peasant is his 2020 Yoongi. then in Haegeum - the Police Boss is him from 2020, and the crazy criminal guy is him in current time. You see that version of Yoongi doesn't have a scar on his face, and the police Boss guy has a mostly healed scar. Anyway, so Yoongi, from what I understand, has healed from his past. This song was hard for him to write, but I know it helpled him.
This... I really can't. It's such a deep topic, and it's so revealing for him, I was not expecting him to feel comfortable enough to share this with us. But... ok I'm not going to go super in-depth but just in case, ⚠ TW ⚠ I wasn't doing well recently; it was completely situational, and I'm currently the happiest I've been in a long time, I even have someone new in my life whom I'm very excited about, but this just... I just sat with my computer for like half an hour after watching this. It brought up a lot of memories, and a lot of feelings. I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to this song and just listen to it as a song, it's just so powerful. But I'm so proud of him for having the courage to tell his story, I can't even begin to imagine what he went through.
The crash was real when he did a part time delivery job as a trainee he lied to the members and said he fell down the stairs bc he was afraid he would get kicked out the group if he admitted he was hit by a car he didn’t want to be a liability to the members idk if you’ve heard the last from his first mixtape but if you listen to it it gives more insight it’s basically what amygdala talks about but way more detail
When I saw the video with him on a motorcycle, I already knew.. this was hard for me to watch. I cried. And to be honest I'm not sure If I can watch it over and over again just like the other MV's. SUGA's talent, courage and his love for music is unmatched. I love him sm and I relate to him sm because I just like a lot of people struggled so much at a young age. Maybe that's why he's my bias. I love all of them And I will always be thankful for BTS and esp SUGA for saving my life. BTS did save me. Sounds corny to some, but had I not known BTS I wouldn't probably be here right now. Thank you SUGA, Thank you Bangtan. I'm forever a fan. Forever ARMY 💜
I want to tell you the lyrics in AMYGDALA is all what happened to yoongi in REAL LIFE... all those memories he talked about in the lyrics has happened with him and that MV + lyrics made me cry legit 4 times, coz I was able to understand his pain and struggles but I was also able to relate with lyrics and all the visuals coz I have been through tough times too and I am still going through a tough time..... I also want to forget all those really bad and ugly memories but you cannot every forget the things you want to forget.... I am just 20 year old and I know it's just starting of my journey, I will face sooo many problems in future but still it hurts so much when you want to forget bad memories but you cannot, so I could feel it 200% when he sings "MY AMYGDALA PLEASE SAVE ME, PLEASE SAVE ME..... MY AMYGDALA PLEASE LET ME OUT, PLEASE LET ME OUT" you can see how desperately yoongi wanted to open that door so that he can get out of his bad memories but he cannot, at the last he was still in the room laying down with his memories, coz all the bad memories are in past and if you change a tiny thing in your past your whole present will be a different thing, coz your past is what makes the present you, your present self...... this is how I see this MV and yes I cried a lot coz I felt it in my heart and soul, I just wanted to hug yoongi and comfort him coz he went through a lot, he has beautiful and soft heart, people misinterpret him as a cold person but he is not, after knowing about his pains and his struggles, I personally think that his heart needs to protected, he is soooo strong I know but his heart is soft, looking at his pains I felt my problems are small and I want to thank him for sharing his vulnerable moments with us through this song, it is not easy to put out your heart in front of the world and I am grateful that he shared his heart with us.... I LOVE YOONGI, I ADMIRE HIM AS AN ARTIST AND AS A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING WITH BEAUTIFUL AND WARM HEART.....I AM PROUD OF YOONGI💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for your reaction. I love this song, is my favorite of the album. It made me cry because is tells part of Yoongi's traumas Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. At first, he told his group members that he had fallen from the stairs, but in reality a car hit him when he was riding his bicycle and he says that after falling he saw that his head was almost under the wheels of the car. Suga did not want to reveal the truth to the agency because he thought they would reject him, after months he had to say it because his shoulder had been dislocated as a result of the accident and did not heal well. The company paid him for rehabilitation and his studies... after debuting, he had injections and therapies for years until he could not postpone his surgery because over time and being an idol with intense choreography, the injury worsened so he underwent surgery for the pandemic and was offstage for about 4 months while he recovered In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks...it's the first time he's commented on his mom's heart surgery and cancer. that his father had, that he mentioned, he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations) When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot and he mentioned in one of his songs that he have thought about s*u*i*c*i*d*e in the past) and I also think it represents the birth of your alter ego Agust D which would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and in that song he also mentions that sometimes he is afraid of himself For me, Suga's "alter ego or shadow" is there in his unconscious and that is why in both Daewchita and Haegeum he kills it again, and sees him as a tyrant who wants to come back and rule his mind? So he kills him when he feels like he's taking more power? Bye the end he is rushing to save himself but he can't open the door, to my is becaused Agust D represents his traumas lodged in the past... and the past cannot be changed 🤔 Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives This song is inspired by a book that Yoogi read called "Almond" about a character with a certain condition in the Amygdala that generates certain consequences in his life. In their discography, BTS has already touched on deep themes and psychological themes in their ballads, as well as in their rap and more pop songs. For example, in their album Map of the Soul, they were inspired by the theories of Carl Justav Jung, who was one of the most popular psychoanalysts of the 20th century and founder of depth psychology, which is mainly based on what exists between consciousness and the unconscious. Jung coined the "map of the soul" and different concepts to explain it, some of them are archetypes that, as if it were a universe that we carry inside, allow us to draw a map that shows how our psyche is configured (Persona, Self, Anima and Shadow) Regards from Mexico 💜
So that bike accident is both something that actually happened and also a lighter version of reality... He said, when discussing the incident with the group in their Burn The Stage series (or maybe it was the movie?) that when he regained conciseness one of the car's tires was right next to his face. So...yeah....pretty traumatizing. Not only to have that happen, but to feel like it needed to be kept secret because he was scared he'd be kicked out of the trainee program. To their credit, once BigHit did find out, they not only made sure he was given medical care, but they also paid for his university so he wouldn't have to keep working odd jobs to afford it.
I get why he didn't say anything. They were struggling so much, and I don't think he had any reason to believe they'd keep him around at that point. I'm glad he was wrong.
i'm thinking maybe "i don't know your name" is his alter ego coming out, to cope..... and he will become agust D ... kinda feels like this is the origin to him.
Yoongi did a live today where he explained a lot you should watch it when it has subs. I'll leave others to give you 'theories' but i think it's quite clear what it all means now we have all three MV's but i think the most important thing to let you know is the bad thing mentioned in this MV are true he really went through them, the accident happened (i'm not sure if it was exactly like in the MV though). And yes we all believe the dark room is the Amygdala.
I believe the accident was worse in real life, from how he's described it. It's all fictionalized a bit for the video - he didn't literally cut that scar into his face. It's still real, just not exactly the same.
At the end of his very last concert before his enlistment he went through the white door. I dont know your name Min Youngi, Gloss, Suga, Agust D, member of BTS. This is all real. The accidents, parents life threatening illnesses pain meds all of it.
It is also a reference to the book 'Almond' which is about someone who a small amygdala and his mother has him eat almonds to 'make it larger'. The word amygdala stems from the word 'almond' as well, so it's a pretty layered symbol.
I think what’s heartbreaking when watching the MV is knowing this is Suga’s story. It’s not just a drama, it actually happened to him and he’s showing us his trauma. I’m humbled by his vulnerability.
Yup. His story. He never let on.
It IS so 💔😭God i love this sweet sweet man 🥹❤️
His growth and evolution through music is beautiful… took him a long time to be able to be this vulnerable… everyone has their process.. looking at his … it’s hard not to feel pride and respect for him
Yes, the accident really happened when he was a trainee in the company. (PS, it will be a longer comment)
He was working part-time as a delivery guy to pay for his education because his family couldn't afford it.
Also, the amygdala is shaped like an almond.
Almond dont help brain, its actually the shape of agmyalda
This is description of anxiety and a full blown panic attacks, thought loops, triggers, feeling like your brain is going up and escape.
The Intense choreography with some of the more recent songs finally surpassed the ability of the Injections and Medications to alleviate the pain.
the car accident deeply affected him not because of the injury, but also in so many ways , he refused to tell anyone about it because he was afraid to be kicked out off the band , and then he was forced to pretend to be normal while performing , I find nothing so symbolic in the mv , it's really how I saw the story of him battling his difficulties and hardishps , trying to open the door and leave memories behind, leave depression , fear of losing parents, disappoining them by choosing your dream making music ( chosing your first love ) , harming yourself ( he said in a song I forgot its name that he harmed himself and the first time his parents Heard of that was in therapy)
yoongi was and still my idol and my favourite artist , the way he presents himself from the very beginning was so distinguishable for me , I felt so bad when I heard part of his past story , ( how he was so poor to a point where he was forced to shoose between taking the bus or eating lunch in his training years ) and I heard also alot of stuff that happened to him here and there ( I'm a fan of him for like 5 years ) but now , after what been visualised in the MV , I have no more words to describe my feelings , it's like if I just realised that all of what I heard about his hardships is REAL , and it's so painful for me because yoongi like I've said is my favorites artist , he inspired me and confronted me with his lyrics many times , see him vulnerable, week , sick , or depressed is physically painful for me
he asked to watch the 3 mv's amygdala, daechwita and haegeum in this exact order to fully understand what he wanted to express.
the scar is a visual representation of his pain, his hurting self, his past memories; that's why it's self-inflicted and not caused by other people. in a way, i believe he tried to give his pain a "real" form, a sort of alter ego, and by giving himself that scar, agust d was finally born, and he was someone he could "use" to express his ugliest feelings, his toughest times, his hurtful experiences.
so 'amygdala' explains how agust d is born and i think that in both daechwita and haegeum he tries to k1ll the scarred agust d because he believes it's the only way he can finally let go of his past trauma.
i also think that blonde scarred agust d in daechwita and policeman agust d in haegeum didn't exactly d1e. we never got to see blonde agust d d1e, he might still be alive right? and the "smirk" policeman agust d gave before being shot makes me think that he's aware he'll never actually d1e, just as pain will never actually leave yoongi.
painful memories will be with us forever, i'm sure yoongi knows that too, and the only way we can move forward isn't trying to erase them, but fully accept them as part of us.
that's why scarred agust d keeps coming back in different forms, because yoongi will never be able to get rid of him, because it's part of who he is.
fully ranting rn, but yoongi's way of thinking is so deep and he amazes me every single time.
and he was the one who scripted both haegeum and amygdala's mv!!! everything that's shown in amygdala really is what he's been going through, (he's already talked about his mom's surgery)!!! so, yeah!!! you're right, the incident is a memory (he crashed against a car in his trainee days, he was working as a delivery boy and hid is pain and dislocated shoulder bc he thought that the company would let go of him as a trainee. instead they paid for his medical bill and college tuition fees so that he could leave his job and all his worries behind) and that triggers his brain and trauma in the mv.
also, talking about the almonds, during 'in the soop' he was reading the book 'almond' by sohn won-pyung, it talks about this boy who is affected by an illness that prevents him from having emotions, meaning his amygdala isn't working well. since the amygdala is almond shaped, his mother makes him eat almonds bc she thinks that'll help making his amygdala work better.
amygdala is so deep and hurtful and it takes a lot of courage to share our pain and trauma and i'm so grateful that he is in a better place mentally now and feels that he can share it with us. he said he's a lot happier now, but writing amygdala has been very painful and difficult for him bc he had to go through his memories and trauma again, after trying to erase it all this time.
👍👏💪🤔😎💜
he showed such strength and perseverance. as someone with trauma, this song is just what I needed.
He literally told the boys how when he came to he was basically under the car, the wheel was so close to his head. Thats how his shoulder was crushed
I want to cry 💔💔 The song is so deep about his past and what Yoongi went through..the accident and everything is real 😭😭😭😭😭
His vocals are so beautiful in this song. Hands down my favorite from him. 💜
As a hardcore army as soon as I saw the scooter I immediately started crying
Yep. I was holding my breath immediately
Hiii! okay this gonna be a long one lol, firstly I loved your reaction and how invested you were in trying to understand💜💜💜.
(This part I'm trying to interpret and it might get a bit confusing but bear with me)
For that last bit there where memory Yoongi decides to get off the bike and run towards helping trapped Yoongi, I think that's him picturing what would could've happened had his amygdala set him free that day.
He was working part-time as a delivery boy and he got into an accident that caused him his shoulder injury (which he later had surgery for) he basically had to hide this whole accident from everyone bc he wasn't supposed to be working and he was also afraid that they wouldn't allow him to debut with an injury.
now onto the other things mentioned and shown in the mv, amygdala is a song according to yoongi where he basically brings back some traumatic moments of his life and is trying to deal with them. amygdala is the place where our traumatic experiences & fears are so yoongi is basically trapped and is reliving these traumatic memories and is trying to escape them.
the scar in the eye could very much be metaphorical as you have interpreted it, something traumatic happened that left him with a scar.
it could also be self-sabotaging, going against himself and loathing himself for some things (he mentions something similar in his song 'the last')
my personal interpretation, once again derived from the song 'the last' is that it could be self-harm in a literal way because some depressed people in order to escape their emotional pain and trauma might physically hurt themselves to musk the pain from emotional to physical and be ''freed'' from the trauma even for just a bit.
then with the pills, it could be either him taking medicine for his injury and then he became dependent on it and would take it every time something traumatic happened to numb the pain or another interpretation could be attempted suicide since at one point he was holding and consuming a handful of pills at once (again an interpretation based on previous statements and songs like 'the last')
the end could very much be him trying to escape those memories and trauma but realizing it is futile. no matter what he does his amygdala will always remind him of those things and although he has now moved on the fear still exists.
sorry for the lengthy interpretation, I just wanted to properly give my take on this amazing video and song.
Suga had announced a promotion schedule in advance, from that we knew all his steps as well ass about this mv and choreo to the Haegeum song
ofc, there wernt mentioned song titles, but as pre-release song, title track, and follow up song
hi rj! the comments already explained the accident and shared that the events mentioned are all true. so
regarding the scar in his face, i do have interpretation with this. what I understand is that it is a 'self-inflicted' scar. way back when daewchita was released, lots of people thought that this came from a battlefield but in reality he did it to himself. basically he's battling with himself.
another interpretation is that when he released his first mixtape, there's a song 'the last' and he mentioned along the lyrics about how he came to counseling/psychiatrist and the "doctor asked me if i have ever --(beep sounds to censor what was said) and i answered 'i have'" so yeah, take that line as you will but most armys understand it as the doctor asking if he ever thought about harming himself. and by these details comes the scar that he made to himself.
i admire him for sharing this raw and honest thoughts with armys.
EXPLANATION IS DEFINITELY ON THE RIGHT TRACK
i cried a lot watching this for the first time, suga is indeed raw and genius 🫶
But... ok I'm not going to go super in-depth but just in case, ⚠ TW ⚠
I wasn't doing well recently; it was completely situational, and I'm currently the happiest I've been in a long time, I even have someone new in my life whom I'm very excited about, but this just...
I'm glad you're here 💜
I want to tell you the lyrics in AMYGDALA is all what happened to yoongi in REAL LIFE... all those memories he talked about in the lyrics has happened with him and that MV + lyrics made me cry legit 4 times, coz I was able to understand his pain and struggles but I was also able to relate with lyrics and all the visuals coz I have been through tough times too and I am still going through a tough time.....
It made me cry because is tells part of Yoongi's traumas
Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. The company paid him for rehabilitation and his studies... after debuting, he had injections and therapies for years until he could not postpone his surgery because over time and being an idol with intense choreography, the injury worsened so he underwent surgery for the pandemic and was offstage for about 4 months while he recovered
In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks...it's the first time he's commented on his mom's heart surgery and cancer. that his father had, that he mentioned, he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations)
When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot and he mentioned in one of his songs that he have thought about s*u*i*c*i*d*e in the past) and I also think it represents the birth of your alter ego Agust D which would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS
When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and in that song he also mentions that sometimes he is afraid of himself
For me, Suga's "alter ego or shadow" is there in his unconscious and that is why in both Daewchita and Haegeum he kills it again, and sees him as a tyrant who wants to come back and rule his mind? So he kills him when he feels like he's taking more power?
Bye the end he is rushing to save himself but he can't open the door, to my is becaused Agust D represents his traumas lodged in the past... and the past cannot be changed 🤔
Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives
This song is inspired by a book that Yoogi read called "Almond" about a character with a certain condition in the Amygdala that generates certain consequences in his life. Jung coined the "map of the soul" and different concepts to explain it, some of them are archetypes that, as if it were a universe that we carry inside, allow us to draw a map that shows how our psyche is configured (Persona, Self, Anima and Shadow)

Everything that he talks about is his from his real life. You will understand much more after you see the documentary.
yoongi is so brave for doing this, he's my comfort person and for lots of other people too, i hope he knows that
i'm thinking maybe "i don't know your name" is his alter ego coming out, to cope..... and he will become agust D ... kinda feels like this is the origin to him.
I think I've finally found my perfect BTS reactor. God, I just love you, RJ.
💜💜💜
Thank you ,bro ❤️🩹🫂
LLORE DE PRINCIPIO A FIN 😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
The car actually slammed into him but he of course wouldn’t/couldn’t recreate it, so a representation was given😞
Sorry ,sorry 🤧🤧 We love you so Much💜😼😭
At the end of his very last concert before his enlistment he went through the white door. I dont know your name Min Youngi, Gloss, Suga, Agust D, member of BTS. This is all real. The accidents, parents life threatening illnesses pain meds all of it.
Ascolta anche "snooze" bellissima
bad memories in amygdala can mess with a human brain, that is why he has this second side of himself - > ocd syndrome
👍👍👍💜💜💜💜😢
Am I the only who can^t find the MV?
uh we know it's coming because they uploaded schedule for the whole promotion
Also, think the almonds have to do with the fact that nuts have chemicals in them that are supposed to make you happy
It is also a reference to the book 'Almond' which is about someone who a small amygdala and his mother has him eat almonds to 'make it larger'. The word amygdala stems from the word 'almond' as well, so it's a pretty layered symbol.
Please reaction to ZODIAC - throw a dice
I think the box cutter represents self h*rm
the real Armys know everything that YOOGY, our brave kitten, has suffered🤧🤧💜😼
