I really love how you embrace various cameras in your work... obviously getting as much enjoyment from shooting m4/3 as you do ff Leica. Cameras are tools and I believe an authentic artist can make wonderful use of any tools set before him/her.
Hello Ben ! Love so much your footage and photos ! And this part of your country is so wild and so cool ! I imagine the happiness to be there... Warm greetings from Switzerland. Jean-Luc
Thanks for the video. It would be great when you display a photo that you include some info like SS, ISO, f stop etc. As low light is an issue with micro 4/3’s low light figures would be great.
Thanks--I hope to visit there someday (if there are actually whales there, calling it Prince of Whales would be very clever)! I've been using the "old" G9 with the Leica 100-400 from shortly after its inception and I'm considering the G9 II (although there are some things I prefer about the G9, which I'll keep). The battery grip is rarely off my G9, especially when the "big" Leica's mounted. May I assume that since you're using the new grip that you consider it essential with that lens as well? Also, there are very few reviews of the DMW-BG1 grip and they're mixed. If you have the old G9 and DMW-BGG9 grip, how do they compare? Thanks!
@@adventureStaley Agreed that in general, gear doesn't matter (for most situations--some of my work depends on detail that wouldn't be apparent without ultra-sharp lenses, careful technique, and cameras that are up to the task--the G9's more than good enough but a little more "headroom" is a good thing). I was just looking for a comparison between the old and new G9/grip combination, but I'll go ahead and get the grip anyway, as I prefer a dual-grip set-up and it is what it is. Thanks, and you're right that your photography will benefit more from a variety of subject matter (such as that found in different locations) than from the tools used.
Nice review and footage. Can't wait to try out the G9II. Nice that you were happy with the 100-400. From what I have read that lens is a hit or miss on image quality and shouldn't be for 1,400 dollars. That is why I went with the Oly 75-300 on my Panasonic GH6.
@adventureStaley Thanks for replying. I just found your channel and am loving your artistic view. Gonna watch a lot more your work. i have a GH5 and want to get a G9 ii for auto focus. Based on your experience with the camera, Is the G9 ii video look any different than GH6?
I purchased the Lumix G85 at launch. Yes I just think it's still capable for awesome Photography as a Lumix G85 Photographer. I seem to never put it down even now in 2024. It's honestly my workhorse but Gee Wiz... I really am convinced with your shots and video that the G9 II is the way to go. Thank You So Much. Seems like an awesome upgrade. But will I put the G85 down? That's the question.
Impressive equipment. It's always amazing to see what cameras can do. I have a Cannon EOS R and have been enjoying taking it out to different places in Alaska. Snow is not far behind and wondered if you find it difficult to photograph in a winter setting?
Great Ben! MFT isn't dead and your beautiful vid shows how capable the system is for photography and video!! Amongst other brands i am using...Olympus OM-D EM-1 MKII here
How's the high ISO? My partner shoots M4/3 with the Olympus OM1 and high ISO is the one area where the small sensor struggles, otherwise it's a superb format.
What a great little film, stunning landscape, nicely filmed and great pictured! I am planning on getting the g9ii with the new 100-400 and maybe the 200f2.8, and I think you sold me. Love the compactness and those picture profiles are a nice ad on as well. Thanks! Also, love the jacket you're wearing. What brand is it?
Hi I used the raw+jpeg, the jpeg was so I could use the 2x built in tele converter. But when I saw the quality of the jpegs I was amazed, they just didn't need any editing at all so shape colours were spot on I don't use raw any more no need to. so now I have super fine on 1 card and fine on the other for the 2x crop. (postscript) Great footage and content.
OUTSTANDING review, bud! What incredible production value, scenery, photography, and overall great filmmaking - and those Alaskan mountaineering boots are 👌🏼. I just looked at your subscriber number - BAM dude, channel is GROWING! YESSSS. People are getting hip to what's good. I've been shooting so much this year that I haven't had any time to watch your stuff, but this was a great one to come back into the fold. Looking forward to getting into the back catalogue to see what I've been missing. PS - coming back to LA in October probably to shoot a music video in the Mojave. I'll let you know if I stick around for a few days. And next, time take me to Alaska with you, will ya? 🤣
Wow! your footage & images of this magical place are jaw dropping Ben … i would love to just sit in those forests and take in the beauty & silence Dang! 8 1/2 minutes of this was not enough, but i loved it! I could watch you filming & sharing still pics around Alaska easily for 60-80 minutes. That Panasonic + 100-400mm lens appears to be a sweet combo!! Always a pleasure to see your new upload in my YT stream 😃🙌🏼🙏🏼🫵🏼
Stunning work! The G9 II is better than the OG G9 in every way on paper, per the reviews and now demonstrated in real world use by you and others. It seems to have closed the gap on full frame cameras quite a bit. Would you pick the G9II over a FF say the S5II? If so, why?
Thank you. I own an S5IIX and love it. Soon I will have a production model of the G9II. I def choose MFT for a shoot where weight and size were serious considerations. Great be me some serious side by sides with full frame and good luck. Check out some of the other recent MFT vids. Africa and tue last few portrait sessions.
outstanding ben , your location is truly a paradise. I'm not into long lenses but i hope that new leica-look simulation becomes more widely available somehow. zen billings in canada
Nice looking but do pros use this camera ….never seen anyone of note saying that they shoot with Panasonic? Pls prove me wrong..otherwise its just a hobbyist camera
Oh yes, definitely. But you cant just buy some cheap hipster hat off the Venice boardwalk, you need to get a legit classic Stetson or something similar. Watch it up your game..
NIce. Alaska is a great place to do 100-400 IS lens ads.... Well spent Panasonic money sending you there . . . BUT - we got just a couple too many Ben shots shooting . . . I think you look better wearing a Q2- and that whole setting. Hope Panasonic paid well. YOu forgot to tell us about the autofocusing of the Lumix camera. They used to have a last place auto focus issue . . . got rid of a Lumix GH4 back in the day - it would focus when it wanted to . . . -hope they came up to Sony/Canon/Leica standards by now. love the boots..... ✌🤘

Just tools. Thank you
This looks like a great experience.
Thanks for sharing.
So great. Thanks!

Perhaps in the future. Thanks for watching.

Never had the old gear. Gear is irrelevant… spend your money on trips. Go to POW! Thanks for stopping by.

What about black out in EVF in burst mode? And low FPS in mechanical shutter and more importantly low light performance?
Nice review and footage. Can't wait to try out the G9II. Nice that you were happy with the 100-400. From what I have read that lens is a hit or miss on image quality and shouldn't be for 1,400 dollars. That is why I went with the Oly 75-300 on my Panasonic GH6.
Love the lens. No complaints after a hard week in the field.
Great as always Ben! Beautiful place and images. Looking forward to the next one! NYC recap?
Thank ya! There will def be a NYC vid. But first I have a lot of Alaska stuff to share. More soon!!
Banger of a video. Nicely done
🙏🏼🙏🏼
You will come across tons of G9ii in Alaska. Great job Panasonic !!
Love the color grade. so natural skin tones. may i know what gear did you shoot this video on? is it g9 ii?
Thanks. G9II & GH6

Awesome, thank you. I cant tell the difference. I'm mostly using the g9ii for video on my channel these days because of the AF

Great work and impressive pictures! You’re a master,

I love the snow. Thanks!
How was it in low light? That’s the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger and going with this system
The smaller shutter will suffer a bit but it is no issue for me. The stabilization is so good you can rock a really slow shutter handheld.
*smaller sensor
Great Ben! MFT isn't dead and your beautiful vid shows how capable the system is for photography and video!! Amongst other brands i am using...Olympus OM-D EM-1 MKII here
Awesome! Thank you!
How's the high ISO? My partner shoots M4/3 with the Olympus OM1 and high ISO is the one area where the small sensor struggles, otherwise it's a superb format.
Haven’t really pushed the ISO. Thanks for watching.
It's not that great according to other reviews.
According to Robin Wong, the high iso performance is more or less equal to, at very high isos slightly worse than the OM's.
Thanks very much. It’s a Filson Short lined cruiser. Fave jacket ever.
I'm considering getting a g9, as the prices have dropped. Is the G9ii worth twice the price?

Thanks very much for stopping by. And I agree with you totally.
The monochrome fog in the trees and the eagle photos are stunning!
Appreciate that John
Nice. Um, what brand is that jacket you're wearing? 🙂
Filson. Good good stuff.
@@adventureStaley danke schön!

Great video. I love Alaska. Like your hat too! What kind is it?
Thanks! A Stetson!

I was waiting for the bear shot. Too bad your brother wasn't in the shot! XOX
I got some near shots. But mostly I watched him. It was amazing.
Nice looking but do pros use this camera ….never seen anyone of note saying that they shoot with Panasonic? Pls prove me wrong..otherwise its just a hobbyist camera
You're not looking close enough, we see what we want to see.
Will an Ansel Adams style hat make me a better photographer?
Oh yes, definitely. But you cant just buy some cheap hipster hat off the Venice boardwalk, you need to get a legit classic Stetson or something similar. Watch it up your game..
G9II and GH7 is amazing,but it's too late.
