Awesome video! At least you don't have to set up your bed because your bed will be ready when it is done built on your van. Can't wait to see future travels when you are done with your built and having your kitty with you. Stay safe and keep on giving us new content very relaxing to watch.
That steak sure made me hungry 🙂. Awesome video man. About your buick, its good to make sure your alternator is in good condition, maybe even take it apart and have a look inside. Even a new one might have cheap brushes in it. I always carry a spare alternator when going on a road trip. The reason for bringing that up is, bad connections inside an alternator can throw the engine check light. Also idler pulley on the belt system, good idea to carry a spare. Ive had brand new idler pulleys that seemed fine explode in operation. **I edited this comment to include replacing the pigtail connector to the alternator and solder the new wire up the good wire on the loom with silver bearing solder** Lot of cheap parts nowadays.
@@vanlifemeow Those 1996's were rock solid in most brands because of the advent of OBD2. Ignition modules, magnetic pick ups (cam sensor if distributorless), alternator. Stuff like that. Those items tend to snuff out in cars that age. Factory OEM thermostat temperature, new radiator go a long way because that keeps the engine block at the right temperature for piston rings to have optimum compression. Radiators are really low price now so it's worth it to throw one in every 3 years. I had to return 2 water pumps on my Honda before I got a good one. Sketchy bearings. 2015 Honda Civic 1.8L. I'm not saying it's not a good car but I just got through repairing it for 2-1/2 months. I know that's a ridiculous amount of time but I kept finding issue after issue when I was checking the accessory belt drive. The car turned into a saga and it was a pain in the ass, the most inconvenient car I've ever owned. I just kept fixing it here at home in my garage until every single issue was solved. I was like, "no way, look at this next thing and the next, look at this shit." I didn't drive it until I fixed every last thing. The car probably will last 8 to 10 years more but I'm sick of the damn car. I was like, "why isn't this like a Chevrolet or a Toyota or a Mazda or a even a junk dodge. I'm like, no this is way worse. It's one of those cars that will last but you're not going to fix it on the side of the road or in a day if you're not familiar with it. That's what I don't like about it and I don't recommend it. Most other cars I've owned, I just fix them in a day, not this one. I just put a trailer hitch on it which I modified it so it would fit. A custom draw-tite. Accessory belt that is listed doesn't fit. Had to measure for the right one. I was able to improve the gas mileage so it's up about eight miles per gallon just under what it says it's supposed to get on the highway so my repairs that I did all myself were worth it but I just don't think anyone should have to go through all of that just for a basic car like that which I bought as a used certified car from the dealer. Yes, I spent extra time on it modifying and installing a larger battery tray and now it has a large agm battery, extra time for stuff like that. I'm not buying another Honda though. It would be stuck at a shop or a dealer for a prolonged amount of time to fix all of that stuff if I wasn't fixing it myself which the list of stuff was long and the amount of extra tools I had to buy was long too, including making a couple of custom tools. It would have been a nightmare if stuck out on the road. Then get towed to a shop or dealer if you're far from home. You'd have to find another way home with this car. It's a ridiculous thing because it's just a four cylinder rice rocket, that's all it is. First and last Honda I'll ever own.
hondas are good. all parts are junk now. even the brands i thought were decent. ive replaced pretty much everything on that buick except the motor and trans at this point
@@vanlifemeow Yeah, the Honda is going to last but I just view it as inconvenient. The computer and emissions are flawless. I haven't towed with it yet. I previously bought property, had it my mom's name for a good reason at the time then she died. My mom transferred it to my sister's name which that's what I what I asked her to do. Then the unexpected, my sister screwed me out of it. I bought another property in my name after that. I had a utility trailer on the other property. Hopefully, it's still there. That land went back to the county. The utility trailer is probably still there because of where it's located because the road is rarely traveled. It's tongue locked and wheel locked too. I've been recovering from surgery since last year and have mostly recovered. I'm about ready to see if I can go get the trailer. The land I bought after the first one is nearby so I'll get to see my new land for sure and I wouldnt have to tow the trailer that far if it's still there. I bought two other trailers since then but would be nice if nothing happened to that first one. I never got any notices or a lien on the trailer. I had bought it brand new. I'll just see what happens. My sister must have lost her mind. I'm not going to be a jaded person about it though.
@@vanlifemeow Yeah .. had a 2006 Dodge caravan v6 for fourteen years. Had a water pump shaft snap off. Drove it forty miles home with no power steering. I found the water pump pulley still bolted to the hub under the cross member. The shaft steel had turned black. Never saw anything like that in my life. Water pump was only six months old. Initially thought I'd have to buy another water pump pulley until I found it. Might be a good idea to carry an extra one of those too and some bolts. Had two fuel injectors rupture in that van too, filling the cylinders with fuel and it mixed with the oil. Had to drain it out, fill with fresh oil. Had it towed because it was fuel hydrolocked. Engine and transmission survived fine, everything else failed the last two years. Changed the fuel line four times, ended up making a steel line for it. Gas tank cracked, fuel pump failed three times. Right front wheel hub snapped off, I almost got killed that time. Van only had about 110,000 miles full ownership, had bought it new off the lot. I don't run fuel injectors more than 70,000 miles now due to that experience. Had tire separation on the driver's front and it ripped the wiring harness out of the inner fender. I put another section of harness in and drove it for another year. All monitors were green/clear but an old code kept popping up, brake light switch. It had always done that one intermittently ever since it was new. Last two years of ownership was a nightmare. Twelve good years. Should have stopped at twelve years. Lol.
