You are one of the most intelligent people I’ve come across on the internet. As a retired home improvement professional, I recognize your talent. I love your videos.
I like the Snake Pit. Don’t let the idiots out there bother you. Huge fan. Can’t wait till you finish your build and start sharing your adventures with us.
Hey, thanks for making this! I'm planning to buy one of these for a build. I was about to look into who the upfitter was, if the rear end was compatible with a locker, and what changes were made during which years. You saved me all the hassle! I'm also a skilled trades guy, but you obviously know auto mechanics much better than me. This series is pure gold for my purposes. In case you're ever interested; I've got some really nice rural acreage up on Lake Superior in WI. We have Nomads and Van Lifers stop by periodically. If ever up this way, you have an open invitation to park as long as you like. We've got a tiny little marina in the back yard, small boats, canoes, great beaches nearby, good fishing, a trout river, inland estuary that empties out into the Big Lake. Lots of ATV trails and some pretty cool single track mountain bike areas not too far away. Shore power if needed. We've got a small shop, but not nearly as nice as the one your buddy has. Hit me up via a PM or something if you want my contact info.
Dude I loved the history lesson on the box van. I’m happy to know that the 2005 gmc savanna that I purchased for $5k was a steal of a deal. I swear you remind me of the younger male version of myself. I am so glad that I happened upon your channel. I love your attention to detail and your desire to teach as you go. Keep up the good solid work you’re doing. I’ll just live vicariously through you.
You're a good man, and never stop dreaming ! I have problems with depression ,you have to fight and go to nature, the best medicine, but try not to sit down !! Love you 😊
Your videos are so funny. I have a dry sense of humor. I love how you use your facial expressions to deal with the trolls. And you come with facts. Precise with the measurements too. You really did your homework and all your hard work will take you a long way. I watched every second of the box van build playlist and love it. I’m already on video 8 of the last road trip playlist and I caught the first video in the new playlist about how to do the maintenance. Skills! I’m looking forward to being on this journey for the long haul. I hope your channel brings you enough money to fund your wildest dreams that you haven’t even conceived yet
Great video Dave! Good information. I watch your videos because of your attention to detail, your mellow demeanor and apparent honesty. I don’t understand TH-cam fans or watchers, what difference does it make what you call your build? If you want to call it your magic pumpkin carriage, call it that! Look forward to seeing what’s next. Peace brother
Great video and conversation. Your attention to detail and making sure your home gets built correctly is fascinating and has been my favorite build on TH-cam by far. I think it's because your build feels more realistic to the audience, compared to these other sponsored builds with all the bells and whistles. Keep up the great work, f%$* the haters!
The video was very informative, telling the history of the GM van series. I originally was looking at a Mercedes Sprinter 170. The price for a new blank canvas was alot, then in the last three years they had increased in price that was far out of reach. The van I purchased is the 2014 Express, ten foot van with the 6 liter V-8. The mileage was low so the price was up there, but overall better than an expensive Mercedes. There are advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but I'm glad I went this route. Your videos are tremendously helpful. Thanks.
No need for apologies. Sometimes life throws speedbumps along our path as a way to tell us we must slow down. Your health is important. I for one thoroughly enjoyed and understood the research you provided to us so THANK YOU for that! 🤝 And a great big "told you so! And "ha, 🤣 you weren't so right after all!" to the commenters that are filled with negativity and feel the need to throw shade instead of kindnes and positivity. Take care of yourself and I hope you get to feeling better soon! Proud of your sobriety, too! Over 30 years sober here. The crud is going around everywhere, it seems. 💜
I bought direct from UHaul too! The extra couple of grand you pay vs private sellers, is worth the maintenance record peace of mind. I spent a bunch of time back and forth speaking with the sales people and managed to get the price lowered too. Would definitely go with them again.
BOOM 🎤 DROP way to tell someone to pound sand in a nice polite fact filled way !! as a retired GM assembly worker you did a great job explaining and proving your point without being condescending 👍 way to do your research !!! And your build is very impressive and great work !! And you’re doing it your way and the way you want it. Nice video keep up the good work and get well soon.
It is another great day, Dave! Interestingly intriguing backstory. Superb delivery as always. Thanks for the background on the van. BTW, a home is like a song. The less whistles and bells, the more space for purpose.
Don't apologize for this not being a van build video because it is! I learned tons that will help me! Absolutely love your videos and your style. Your vibe attracts your tribe. Be you. Do what you want when you want. Personally I have no expectations and just enjoy what I get. I identified with what you've shared about your journey. Glad you're being true to yourself at a younger age. Took me until I was older and my life face planted to get the courage to do this. Ignore the word Nazi's. Thanks man. (I have 2 kitty's I'm wanting to take with me too. meow 😎)
Every decision you've made buying and building your box van are all reasonable and practical. And must say that it's a very wise decision.. I am happy for you having your own space and a cozy home.. Take care of yourself and get well soon.. ❤
Very informative. I’ve built out a cargo trailer, but really like the box van too. It has advantages. Followed and looking forward to the transformation.✌️
Dude! You make the best videos! Straight forward. To the point. VERY informative! You have helped me more than you know. Hope i run into you on the road somewhere... someday.
Great info! Super important to know the good/bad of your chosen platform. This video will help lots of people when it comes time to lay down the money on the right rig. Thanks Dave!
Love your research. I, too, looked at box vans, but settled on a lightly used shuttle bus with handicap lift. It never ran a city route, but was an dial-a-ride, that was driven between 3 cities. ie: less stopping and going. I got complete maintenance records from the Ford service center.
I really like your series on this build, and I'm super jealous. This is one of my pipe dreams too. What you've already accomplished looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Thanks for the video series, I look forward to every upload!
I just binged watched your build & I'm loving it. I have a Promaster high roof 2500 with state farm insurance. They had me to send them all of the pictures as well.
these vans are awesome for budget builds that you can stand in. Even better are the ones with the storage bubble space over cab, but they are few and far between
We bought a 2006 GMC Savanah 16 ft. box truck from Budget Rentals for our cabinet shop delivery truck. It has been a great truck. Budget seems to sell theirs with lower milage than U-Haul did at the time. These rental places have to keep their trucks up so they have less failures on the road. Our 25 ft. RV is on the 2007 Chevy Express chassis. We love it! Highly recommend these classics!
I must saying completely jealous of you sir. Mad props to you. My 6 year old wants to do something like your build with me so we can stay where ever when I have him.
Hope you start feeling better. I have been watching your boxvan build. I was impressed with your side door build. I was a builder, a welder, and a mechanic so that pretty much covers the bases of much of what you are doing. I had a construction accident in 2003 which left me paralyzed. Right now I am working on my 4th van build. I had a 2003 and a 2010 Ford that I did some extras for over the road and back road travel. I live in central Maine. My next van was a Chevy express 2500 with a 6.0 liter and a 6 speed trans. I put 150,000 plus in 6 years. Right now I have a 2023 GMC 3/4 ton Savana 4 x 4 with an 8 speed trans. My rear bench seat converts into a bed, and I have everything you can think of to get you out of a jam back road. I have two stoves I can cook on (wood or propane) Lots of freeze dried food along with saws, axes, rope, tarps, etc. Oh yeah a CB because we do logging roads up here where there are no cell phones. I look forward to seeing the completion of your build and how it handles in some of your adventures. Keep the rubber side down and the solar side up and I'm sure you'll do OK.
Yes you can go through a drive thru. I have one of these and ran my delivery business for 5 years before making the move personally across the country. I have owned a lot of vehicles in my life but I am not sure I have love one more. Super nimble and lots of power. I still own mine after 11 years and you definitely are expanding the future ideas I have for it.
I totally agree with all your supporters here 😊 No need to apologize. I get vertigo too, and it's a biatch!! Seems plenty of us are emotionally invested in your mission for the long haul ❤ Please, never change... no matter how famous n rich you get 🤗⭐
Thank you for sharing and being honest about your van build journey! I'm going to be starting mine within the next 2 months, so I really appreciate this valuable info! 😻🙏
Thank you for sharing the information about your van. I own a 2001 Chevy Express 2500 long wheel base. I built out my van into a camper. If I could have bought a box van like yourself, I would have. But it just wasn't in the budget. They are reliable vehicles and like you said you can work on it yourself. I was fortunate that I got a really great deal from someone I knew. I only paid $3100 canadian. It was well below market value. I've owned it for 3 years, and I have had to do the normal maintenance. Tires, brakes, battery, wheel bearings, oil changes, transmission filter/fluid. I've probably spent around $2500 on building it into a camper. The only real problem with the van is rust in the rockers, which I'm going to be fixing myself in the spring. Fortunately they make patch panel kits for these vans. 👌
I bought my 2004 Ford in 2009. It's been from Maine to California twice. I ho through State farm and full coverage is 160/mn which covers everything. The van started out as a truck to carry sled dogs. Now converting to an rv.. it's diesel and I get better mileage than my Chevy truck. 27 foot with sleeper cab. I love it and it holds its value surprisingly. Great video BTW. I've been following your progress and great ideas. I got permission to strip an old travel trailer. It's a disaster but hoping I can salvage the appliances, heater sink, etc.
You have a box van😊. Got white 2018 Chev express psgr 3500 109,000 mi V86L was a Crummy (logger or tree planter transport) and filthy. MobyVan. Came w/air bags remote adjust, good paint, mechanically sound, backup camera. Gave away seats, cleaned. Hired out running boards, heavy hitch step, meaty tires and alignment, replace cracked power mirrors. Have/I'm installing TNT van bed unit, kitchen/storage (free) long narrow pine double chest/drawers (cut out drawers 1 side for 2 7gal water cans, cold water sink) rest of outfit already have (was going to utility trlr/4runner camp). Gave suv (2014) to son/family. Building w/lots of plusnuts w/D-ring bolts to strap down components. Mostly no build, secure stuff for safety. Loving your build. This s*it's fun! Too old to give up the stickbuilt so a wanderer not a nomad. Kitties 3 like home, dogs 2 will come with. 😊Hope u feel better.
Great education, thanks! In places like Norway all they use are cab overs in most of their commercial style “trucks”. The visibility is great but you’re right, there’s no protection between you and any frontal collision. I loved my ‘07 Chevy Express AWD, got it new when I was a Tech my last year and our mechanic put heavier load rated tires on it and suspension right away, basically made it a heavy half…that thing was a tank! Could drive 50-55 on the Interstate in 2” of slush and hold a straight line easily while everyone else is going 30-35. Why they got rid of the AWD option for those vans is a mystery. As I believe they only were offered in their 1/2 ton series too if I’m not mistaken? Glad to see you feeling better, a lot of that ick going around now. Beautiful cat, mine is in my lap as I text. She’s a bit needy and wants to be with me 24/7 but she’s a sweetie. Take care man!✌🏻👊🏻
Box vans have the best configuration for conversion into a travel cabin! Flat, straight walls and ceiling make insulation and furniture attachment straightforward. Solid wall panels, usually double sided fibreglass faced plywood, tough, ridgid and easily workable and repairable. Full standing height throughout, and a stealth capability like no other van. With the over cab wind deflector or sleeper module sourced from a scrapyard, the van has even greater usability whilst getting better mileage.
I learned a lot. Neat. I have 99 safari and 90 Chevy G20 with 2’ top, chinook. I put new motor and transmission and bunch of good mechanics. G gets 15 the safari 20 average
Bro don't worry about the trolls. You do you and be happy doing it! Love the channel and the build, wishing you the best of luck and I hope you feel better soon 🙏
I think you made a thoughtful decision and practical. It looks good and by the time the build is finished you will be proud. Btw, another polar vortex will be in store the first half of Feb.
Feeling like crap but still went to work, then too wore out for anything else. Please take some time to rest. The build is coming along nicely , keep up the good work but only if you're healthy. Give the kitties some meow love
Hey brother are you doing a great job on building that van out and even though this wasn't a built video it's fine for what you're doing I wish you the best of luck please keep making videos I think you're doing a great job
Hey Dave..great video and very informative ! As for the difference between box van & box truck..if it has a van chassis it's a box van and if it's a truck chassis it's a box truck 😁 Been sick myself the last week.. hopefully you're feeling better soon ! Looking forward to the suspension lift part of the build..as I've thought of doing a similar build 👍 Take care and looking forward to the next video 😁
I was wondering when you mite do this type of video and break things down like you did as again like usual it was very informative and interesting and yes Chevy has been this way with allot of their vehicles over the years and made it easier to find parts for a wide range of years instead of three or less like allot of other makes and models thanks again for your time and researching about your van and where it came from beginning to present looking forward to your next episode next week Kraig from Washington State
The man did a 33 minute retort to "it's not a box van." Don't argue with him.
You have no reason to apologize. The video was very informative and I thank you.
You are one of the most intelligent people I’ve come across on the internet. As a retired home improvement professional, I recognize your talent. I love your videos.

No disappointment in this video, it actually cemented my decision to purchase one from U haul

Wow I really learned something from this one. After all that why most of us watch anyway. Thanks !
This was actually a really great video. Not a disappointment at all! Thanks for taking the time for making one anyway and get well soon! :) 👍
Great info!! Great video! Go Box VAN!!
"Dealin' Dan" & "Mechanic Jerry with the drinking problem." I literally laughed out loud. I love your vids. Can't wait to see the van finished

Don’t apologize that you needed to rest up while being sick. While we all would have loved a build video, life happens. We wait for next weekend
very informative video thank u for clearing this up and educating us ❤
You found the vehicle that met your needs. You’re putting in tons of work and planning. Call it whatever you want. Congratulations on sobriety
Congrats on the sobriety. That is an amazing achievement.
Best thing you did was get sober. I've been sober for twenty five years.Life is much better
I bought direct from UHaul too! The extra couple of grand you pay vs private sellers, is worth the maintenance record peace of mind.
I spent a bunch of time back and forth speaking with the sales people and managed to get the price lowered too. Would definitely go with them again.

Great video, perfectly explained, no BS, keep it up !!!
Been WAITING for the next van build vid, but this will do! HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER BRO!!
As always good info. No one explaining the insurance like you did. Appreciate that
Great talk. Learned a lot. Thanks
Be you. Brilliant conversation. Very informative. Thank you.
Cool I just learned a bunch of stuff ✌️
One day at a time and don't apologize this is your home and you do it looks you want.
Hope i run into you on the road somewhere... someday.
Thanks for your videos and info you share ive just purchased a Penski model with the 18 ft box ! You are doing a great job.
Interesting to find out the vans story and origins. Hope you feel better soon. Take care .
Great info! Super important to know the good/bad of your chosen platform. This video will help lots of people when it comes time to lay down the money on the right rig. Thanks Dave!
I can’t wait to see the finished build of the Snake Pit 😊

So much stuff I didn’t know about in this upload . Sending Health & Wellness Vibes your Way ! ✌🏽🕊️
A aerodynamic roof fairing will help with fuel economy I hide cell boosters, cab roof vent fan etc. behind mine.
i do want one. thinking spare tire on the cab roof though
I really like your series on this build, and I'm super jealous. This is one of my pipe dreams too. What you've already accomplished looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Thanks for the video series, I look forward to every upload!
Great information and the van name is amazing
This is literally the Cliff Notes of how to get your rig started. Great info!!! Brilliant work, good sir!! Love the series!
Thanks for all the info
Great research and info, thanks for sharing!
Hope you feel better! ✌️
Thanks for the vid Dave! I really enjoyed it and your kitty is gorgeous. Take care of you and be well.
Hope you are feeling better soon! Great information about the van. Great to know. Thanks you so much!
As someone who is a native of Illinois, born and raised there, I’m so glad you pronounced Illinois the right way …without pronouncing the s.
Great, you had me checking my pronunciation...lol
Then I tried it with the s and it doesn't sound right.
ill- i - noid....shhhhh

Stay warm and safe and get better and awesome info about your van, built can wait till next week you need to get better.✌
Great video. Hope you feel better soon!
Thx for sharing hope the sickness passes quickly. Take care......

Box van is a van with a box body(Express, Econoline style)
Box truck is a conventional truck(Freightliner, International style) with a box body. 👍👍👍
My advice is to just block any haters, don’t give them any oxygen. Best wishes to you! 😊
You have a box van😊. Got white 2018 Chev express psgr 3500 109,000 mi V86L was a Crummy (logger or tree planter transport) and filthy. MobyVan.
Take care man!✌🏻👊🏻
I enjoyed your travel videos and I’m looking forward to seeing them in your new truck. Dont forget to show life around camp, including meals.
I didn't realize I came to class.
Sorry teacher I'm ill per paired.
Thank you for this history lesson. I learned something.
Awwwww that sweet baby kitty!!!! God love ittttt! I can’t wait to see what you do for kitty in the BOXVAN😂
Btw, another polar vortex will be in store the first half of Feb.
great! lol. im so done with winter
Very informative video. I hope you feel better soon. I think the snakes on the sides have to be worth at least $1500-2000, you got a great deal!
i bought my from uhaul 2008 85.000 miles 6 years ago is a 10f gmc savana good van no issues.
I hope you feel well soon!
I was wondering when you mite do this type of video and break things down like you did as again like usual it was very informative and interesting and yes Chevy has been this way with allot of their vehicles over the years and made it easier to find parts for a wide range of years instead of three or less like allot of other makes and models thanks again for your time and researching about your van and where it came from beginning to present looking forward to your next episode next week Kraig from Washington State
❤ thanks for these details . Get well.
hope you feel better i’m just feeling better myself ✌️
