Abby Hee in my own personal opinion, I think they related this song to his character from "i need you", if you've already seen it, it probably explains why he calls himself a sinner for his horrible "crime", and the pain and regret it has caused him, or it could've anything else, probably in his personal life he's suffered to the point he blames himself for all the bad things that could happen in his life, only taehyung knows the real reason behind these lyrics, hopefully he shares it with us one day 😊

I feel like tae is trying to tell a story through this song, a story that only he knows the meaning to, I feel like he feels guilty and is trying to apologize but at the same time he doesn’t blame himself because he knows it’s not entirely his fault, I think it’s way deeper than anyone could ever imagine, I do hope one day he can share the meaning of this song with us, but in the mean time I’ll continue to enjoy it because it truly is a beautiful piece

i could easily just be projecting, but as a gay person this song really resonates with me and my experience prior to coming out. "even if i hide it, even if i disappear, it isn't erased. are you calling me a sinner?" personally, i can't see this being about anything else. it's also worth noting that the word stigma itself is heavily associated with lgbt people. and the fact that taehyung is the only member who hasn't explained his song further, only saying that it's a secret, i think backs up my theory... (plus his suspect relationship with park bogum)
Tae is such a complex person, when u first see him you think he's just a 4D person and super silly and is handsome. Then when you pay attention to details you see he is a lot more emotionally adapt person, that can read people well and knows how to change a mood and very in tune with himself with many talents. I thought she died after this song was made. I agree with z0mbjes, but I assure you that many people have been talking about this since the song's release. Many people, including myself, wonder what kind of hurt he must be hiding to sing a song like this. Many people have made theories (e.g. that the brother and sister he references are his real life siblings and he let something bad happen to them; or the song is about him coming out as a Christian and has references to Jesus; or some people think it's about him being homosexual. Many theories, and I choose to believe none. This is my favourite song. I think it's an amazing piece of art because it does exactly what I expect an amazing piece of art to do; everybody has their own completely different interpretation based on their own perspective. I've seen Christians think it's about Christianity, and homosexuals think it's about homosexuality. Isn't great music often there for us to relate to, and to comfort us? This song does that incredibly well. Although I personally choose not to take any interpretation of this song other than that V had to go through a lot of pain and suffering and may still be in that position, this song somehow does it all for me. :)

Taehyung is a very unique person, in both appearance and actions (both in a good way). His lyrics take on a whole new meaning when looked at from different angles. but always holds the original meaning it was intended to have. His song 4 O'Clock has very clear meanings but just has an overall aura of feeling to them.

BTS in general are not so open about their family, but Taehyung pretty much never mentions his sibilings, it seems like he was brought mainly up by his grandmother, and I believe he didn't spend much time with them so I think this song may actually refer to his actual brother and sister, expecially with all the fame now he may feel like a burden to his family, and from some of the lyrics I would dare to say it looks like he doesn't feel like he's a good brother and doesn't feel like he can guide them.

Same, I moved to Kenya and my grandma raised me the whole time I was there. She developed a serious blood clot and even though she had surgery for it, still ended up passing away. I was so crushed and ended up moving back to America. When i found this song and learned about what happened to Tae's Grandma I was sobbing while listening because all the memories of my grandma started rushing into my mind.

this song was released during the height of my angsty teenaged gay awakening... it echoes really well with my experiences and those of many other lgbt people. probs not exactly what the song is about but it's a testament to his writing ability that this song can be interpreted in so many ways and can apply to so many different people.

Begin is about Jungkook's feelings towards the boys, Reflection is about Namjoon trying to and learning to love himself. First love is about Yoongi's love for music. But. . noone knows who Stigma is talking about or what Tae was talking about when he wrote it. Seriously the lines. " Why were you like that to me back then. Are you calling me a sinner? Im sorry my sister. Please punish me for my crimes. The feeble you who recived the punishment for my crimes. It hurts deeper everyday. Everyday it gets worse and I feel like dying." I don't know the intended meaning of the song and I think everyone reads their own meaning into it, but for me personally, it just resonated so strongly with the feelings of shame that can come with being queer in a conservative or religious family who might not accept you. The apologies to the family members, him saying that no matter what he does he can't hide it or erase it, the "are you calling me a sinner?" line, as well as him begging for punishment and forgiveness for his perceived sins, just made me feel those emotions all over again. The song being called Stigma is also incredibly fitting. No matter what it's intended meaning is, I think it's really amazing that Tae put out such a beautiful song that can resonate with so many people on such a personal level for so many different reasons! Yo, this comment hit me on such a personal level. When I saw this song for the first time, I cried for hours. It hit me so hard as a queer person in a catholic world. And I never really commented but I watch this video all the time and I saw ur comment and I just wanted to say that this song gives such strong vibes from that exact same position in life. “Are you calling me a sinner?” I once used that exact same line when a theology teacher told me I was going to hell for existing, and all I could think was Tae’s voice resonating in the back of my head. I wasn't nervous, why should I have been? To my surprise, she starts saying that I am a disappointment and that she "failed as a parent." Later that night, she said that it had been a good day. Needless to say, I was crushed. I'm scared now. If that was her reaction to my religion, what will she think about me being pansexual? I relate to Stigma in so many ways. Jungkook was my first bias, because he was the first one that I got to know, and for some reason I got attached to him, but after a few months of getting to know the group Taehyung completely wrecked my existence , and now he is my ultimate bias. Tae is such a complex person, when u first see him you think he's just a 4D person and super silly and is handsome. Then when you pay attention to details you see he is a lot more emotionally adapt person, that can read people well and knows how to change a mood and very in tune with himself with many talents. I see that no one is talking about this so this might be just an effect of me being depressed. But this song feels so much like the constraints that I'm feeling right now trying my hardest to be happy in front of everybody. This makes me worried since RapMon said that he had no idea why V wrote his song like this and all the songs are personal to the members. Many people, including myself, wonder what kind of hurt he must be hiding to sing a song like this. Many people have made theories (e.g. that the brother and sister he references are his real life siblings and he let something bad happen to them; or the song is about him coming out as a Christian and has references to Jesus; or some people think it's about him being homosexual. Many theories, and I choose to believe none. This is my favourite song. I think it's an amazing piece of art because it does exactly what I expect an amazing piece of art to do; everybody has their own completely different interpretation based on their own perspective. I've seen Christians think it's about Christianity, and homosexuals think it's about homosexuality. Isn't great music often there for us to relate to, and to comfort us? This song does that incredibly well. Although I personally choose not to take any interpretation of this song other than that V had to go through a lot of pain and suffering and may still be in that position, this song somehow does it all for me. :)

His lyrics take on a whole new meaning when looked at from different angles. but always holds the original meaning it was intended to have. His song 4 O'Clock has very clear meanings but just has an overall aura of feeling to them.

Taehyung has a brother and a sister, both younger than him. BTS in general are not so open about their family, but Taehyung pretty much never mentions his sibilings, it seems like he was brought mainly up by his grandmother, and I believe he didn't spend much time with them so I think this song may actually refer to his actual brother and sister, expecially with all the fame now he may feel like a burden to his family, and from some of the lyrics I would dare to say it looks like he doesn't feel like he's a good brother and doesn't feel like he can guide them.

Same, I moved to Kenya and my grandma raised me the whole time I was there. She developed a serious blood clot and even though she had surgery for it, still ended up passing away. I was so crushed and ended up moving back to America. When i found this song and learned about what happened to Tae's Grandma I was sobbing while listening because all the memories of my grandma started rushing into my mind.

I don't know the intended meaning of the song and I think everyone reads their own meaning into it, but for me personally, it just resonated so strongly with the feelings of shame that can come with being queer in a conservative or religious family who might not accept you. The apologies to the family members, him saying that no matter what he does he can't hide it or erase it, the "are you calling me a sinner?" line, as well as him begging for punishment and forgiveness for his perceived sins, just made me feel those emotions all over again. The song being called Stigma is also incredibly fitting. No matter what it's intended meaning is, I think it's really amazing that Tae put out such a beautiful song that can resonate with so many people on such a personal level for so many different reasons! He's really incredible!

Yo, this comment hit me on such a personal level. When I saw this song for the first time, I cried for hours. It hit me so hard as a queer person in a catholic world. And I never really commented but I watch this video all the time and I saw ur comment and I just wanted to say that this song gives such strong vibes from that exact same position in life. “Are you calling me a sinner?” I once used that exact same line when a theology teacher told me I was going to hell for existing, and all I could think was Tae’s voice resonating in the back of my head. I can’t erase it, and I can’t hide it; but I’m sorry anyway.
I'm glad this resonated with someone other than me. I'm really sorry you had to go through those experiences though. Trust me, I feel your pain. No one should ever be made to feel less than or have to apologize for simply being who they are. And it's sad because honestly, all the hate and stigma (no pun intended) around being queer in a religious world is what ended up turning me away from religion altogether.

I wasn't nervous, why should I have been? To my surprise, she starts saying that I am a disappointment and that she "failed as a parent." Later that night, she said that it had been a good day. Needless to say, I was crushed. I'm scared now. If that was her reaction to my religion, what will she think about me being pansexual? I relate to Stigma in so many ways. It's sad that anyone can relate to Stigma.

Why Taehyung is my bias?
Jungkook was my first bias, because he was the first one that I got to know, and for some reason I got attached to him, but after a few months of getting to know the group Taehyung completely wrecked my existence , and now he is my ultimate bias. Idk what happened, its just that every time I think of taehyung I just get the feeling of childhood wonders and a happy bliss, I feel like he is timeless. I just love his old soul, so pure and genuine, I love his sense of individuality, creativity and kindness, he is so unapologetic about himself, he is just the way he is. His voice give me goosebumps, touches my soul. And he inspires me so much.
This is just a few of the reasons why he is my bias, I could literally write an entire book about it.
