Superb idea on splitting up the sound by channel. Very inspiring and love your creativity. Just a quick suggestion with Scalar2: you can turn on the multi-voice output (Settings|Preferences|Multi-voice output) in Scalar and the notes of the chords will be assign to each channel automatically. Note that channels will start at 2 since channel 1 is all the notes. Thanks for expanding drastically my experimentations in Bitwig.
This is my favourite video, but having said that... I've spent the whole of my day watching your videos and I've now "Favourited" about 5. You're just so fluid in your process -- if I had half your navigational skills I'd consider myself a genius in Bitwig, and that's not even considering your remarkable ability to come up with ideas and then be able to put them into action! Bloody Delicious!
Thank you very much for your great Bitwig guidance! This function opens so many doors. It's amazing how you transformed this simple progression idea, and gave it such a soul!
I am blown away by what your knowledge and Bitwig together can come up with. This is a very interesting way of working that I will definitely try myself. Thank you very much.
Thank you 4 this great video. I'm from Germany and it's a project for me to follow your fast presentation, but i hope to catch some great ideas for my comming "bitwig only" track project. I have bitwig studio with all these great options. So now it's time too dive into these possibilities. Thanks for your help to learn swim . ;-)
Bitwig is the best for composing beats IMO for all the reasons you just demonstrated. Love your work man. So that you don't have to manually assign midi channels to each note, buy a copy of phrasebox and right click on the label to the left of the grid and assign a channel. It also has 1 to 8 for notes in a chord. Now it's fully automated. Phrasbox is seriously underrated IMO. The perfect companion for scaler 2.
Reminds me of the extremely powerful Unify VST by PluginGuru which (among tons of other functionality) can round robin notes among any loaded plugins, and, to a lesser degree, also the "Geist as an idea generator" YT video by Sami 9 years ago, yet still relevant!...
This rules, and I’m glad you haven’t fully ditched YT. Don’t have bandwidth for the tribe right now but might next year. I want to keep hearing what you’re up to in the meantime!
Thank you for your advice, it's very helpful. Since I've just started using Bitwig, I don't understand how you connected the whole band to one MIDI clip? Do you have any video tutorials on how to do that? Unfortunately I have a problem understanding how to work with audio channels.
Question: What's your sidechain setup? I can see @18:28 - is it "just" the modulation of the group-volume-fader? :) Did i miss a special video for that topic? :) Love the pad sounds, omnisphere is always awesome.
This is the way. I found layering to degrade the signal, along with the cpu disadvantage. With the master clip, we can also edit each channel in it's own lane for step type sequencing. Be nice if track colour was tied to midi channel colour.
If you split the midi amongst multiple clips, then select multiple clips, you can view them all as layers and each layers notes will have a different color.
Thanks...that's the flexible track level approach :) With one clip, one window...sequencing 16 tracks, it's akin to a hardware sequencer driving 16 synths into a 16 channel mixer Group 1 > 16 instrument tracks Group 2 > 16 Audio, 16 FX tracks Cause the midi channel colours are fixed...I decided to name all tracks 1-16 (colour: grey) so if I'm working on ch1 in the clip, I know it's going to instrument 1, Audio 1, FX 1 Maybe I'll work up a scribble strip and fix to the bottom of the monitor for each project...old school
So you're saying the individual track method is less intensive on CPU than having the individual midi channels and instrument in an instrument layer? I actually learned that first method from one of your earlier videos (in fact, I think it was the first video of yours which I viewed)
specifically Instrument Selector (and I'm guessing any Selector type device) doesn't split up to different threads of CPU, but Instrument Layers does actually split up to CPU threads, but then you could bottleneck it with common post-processing after instrument layers device. but pretty much same as if you put FX on Group track.
i love bitwig, however it is impossible to get a keyzone split device to send midi into a bw track on anything but midi channel 1???? for example i have a NI komplete kontrol s88 with 3 keyzones setup with 3 different midi channels........ just will not be seen by bitwig as different midi channels..any suggestions would be appreciated jb
Now what would be REALLY fun (for keyboard players): If Bitwig (or some plugin) could split incoming polyphonic midi into separate channels - e.g. lowest note ch.1, second lowest note ch. 2, etc. In other words, make the editing of channels an automatic (and instant) thing. Has anybody found a way to do this?
Yes! There's something that does exatly this. It is a utility called *Divisimate* and it rocks! I found it initially because I was doing orchestral work and it was a huge help. Think about how awesome it is to be able to play four-part harmony on the keyboard and have it 'automatically orchestrate' the resulting midi. It does all of this in realtime and you can save preset 'orchestrations' where for instance you can have it take the lowest played pitch and transpose it up one octave and route it to two specific midi channels. This in effect allows you to create these voicings where in an orchestral setting you can have the flute and french horn double the viola line while the bassoon and clarinet double the cello line (in their respective octaves) its really awesome and very affordable! I've messaged the developer on occasion about a question or technical issues and they have been very response - so points for that too. :)
Isn't this the same as routing a midi track with no instruments and midi clips with notes only into multiple midi track with instruments (or better, multiple midi tracks with instruments receiving the empty midi track data) in ableton live?
"In response to a number of the comments and messages that I received from you guys over the past week about “paywalling” my videos, I've decided to keep uploading tutorials to this TH-cam channel. As much as I have my gripes with this platform, I am eternally grateful for the community of curious and creative Bitwiggers that we have created together. The outpouring of love for these videos, and the sadness for my leaving that you guys shared, really helped put things in perspective. I started this channel three years ago in order to give back and help spread the love and joy I have experienced by living in harmony with creativity and so that I shall continue to do" - my previous video

I've been doing this the hard way, so I really appreciate the cleaner approach presented here. Thanks 😊
You expand my musical perceptions every tutorial. Wonderful 🙏❤️🙏

I’ve been wondering about this technique recently, so this video couldn’t have come at a better time.Thank you!

new to the channel, your instructions are very clear and informative, thanks 🙌
You are the GOAT of bitwig .. i got the DAW because of your channel :)
Awww thank you friend ❤️
Wow this technique can come in really useful when you have many different bass sounds such as with a Dubstep track.

Your shortcut skills are amazing , i hope you could make a video about mastering the keyboard with shortcut please…
You've got it pal! Just for you :)

You're welcome :)

Very useful. Fun to watch. Thank you 🥰
Yes! You said Pernickety. You can take the man out of the South East of England…….. Love you r vids
as an ableton user...u just gave me some great ideas
as ex-ableton user, switching to Bitwig was a great idea 😁
Thank you this is amazing. Will join the tribe soon ! So helpful with bitiwg
Thanks for the inspiration.
sounds beautiful
1:48 Im going to sample him saying "selleeectorrr". Like a Bond villain. its great.
Thank you very much!!!
Awesome work bro 🌊🔥
Thank you buddy!
awesome i was just wondering how to make the notes appear in different colours based on their channels a few weeks ago :)
beautiful stuff!
Incredibly inspiring ❤
Wow think with this method you can send the midi from Microtonic beatspace into other drum devices. Will check when home
Thanks,, this is gold
You're welcome brother!
Is this something pretty unique to Bitwig or would Cubase or Ableton live be able to as well?
Good stuff thank you !
Thank you and much love!

Amazing!!!!
super nice!! does ableton also have this feature to assign midi channel per note?
Not in the base program, afaik, but i’m sure you could pretty easily do it with a max4live patch, if one doesn’t already exist.
thanks, I'll see if i can find one that does it@@RufusWhite
Pretty cool! 🙏
Brilliant

It's a bit of a workaround to the not implemented Chord Track feature in Bitwig.
Can you make a step by step tutorial on how to set this up? 9-6-24
What aren’t you good at?…… Big Love from Blighty
i mostly or never working in the pattern Editor...am i sick?

You were moving your mouse too fast such that I couldn’t see how your turned one of your synth outputs to mono
would have been quicker to copy paste the midi than select different channel outs
HI
I thought you were leaving
