    The Open Source diabetic community is one of the coolest and most innovative communities in tech right now. As a late-diagnosed adult (early 30s when my diagnosis was correctly changed from Type 2 to Type 1) and a former software developer, the innovation and commitment to open source (and often times self-funded) collaborative projects is amazing. Thank you for highlighting the people behind these projects and thanks for your platform and being open about your journey. Also, I'm the weirdo that keeps asking for you to create a Patreon, so, yes, Patreon please, heh.

      I also was misdiagnosed from a type 2 as a type 1 for 16 years. What is this open source you speak of?

    • @devnull3278
      @devnull3278 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hellokitty815Open Source just refers to a type of software development that occurs in a collaborative fashion - anyone can work on code, add to it, and try to make it better. A lot of grassroots projects in the diabetic community are Open Source because software developers had to rely on each other and the larger diabetic community for input into creating, from the ground up, code that would do what we needed it to do (instead of potentially waiting years for "big box" companies to get on board).

    Hello Justin,I appreciate your informative content on diabetes. Thank you for providing such valuable videos. I wanted to inquire about the compatibility of the Sugar Pixels and Tidbyt devices with the Guardian sensor from Medtronic. If they are compatible, could you please advise me on which apps I can use for both devices? Thank you very much.

    Hi, I was just reading your July 1, 2024 article on CNET regarding your T1D diagnosis. I am a physician who treats many diabetic patients and I want to make two comments about your article.
    1) The symptoms: You imply that there are certain symptoms that are specific to T1D and specifically mention excessive thirst and urination, extreme feeling of fatigue, blurred vision and weight loss. While weight loss is uncommon with T2D all of the other symptoms you mention can be seen with both types of diabetes since they are all a result of high or fluctuating glucose levels which of course is common to both forms of this disorder.
    2) You imply that its important to test all diabetics for T1D. I disagree. Despite your claim that up to 11% of adult diabetics are T1D I don't see that. I've been practicing internal for 34 years and have been treating both T1D and T2D over that time period. The actual rate in adults today at least in my metro NY area seems to be closer to 1-2%. Doing an ICA or similar testing on everyone who is diabetic would be cost prohibitive and in most cases completely unnecessary. History alone is often enough to distinguish those who are likely to have T1 from those who are T2. T1 diabetics as mentioned above are more likely to have lost weight and have had a sudden dramatic increase in blood sugar whereas most T2D usually have a long period of transition during which they were prediabetic for years. They are also less likely to experience weight loss and more likely to be overweight. Many T2D also have Metabolic syndrome which means they may have high cholesterol and hypertension as well.
    Making the proper diagnosis is critical in order to provide the correct treatment but recommends for public health measures should be based on cost benefit since the country does not have unlimited health care resources and putting money somewhere usually means taking it from somewhere else. I have serious doubts that there is sufficient evidence to suggest that routine screening with additional blood tests in all diabetic patients will provide enough benefits to justify the cost and therefore justify the removal of funds from other health care efforts.

    I am so happy you made this video. I noticed the one behind you (Tidbyt) and thought I need one of those. I work from home and putting one of these on my desk is a real convenient. Another on my nightstand would be great for those times my T:Slim alerts go off and I don't want to hunt around or look at my phone. I am ordering two of them today! I bougt a Sugarpixel for my T1 diabetic son. He has not managed to set it up with his Libra 2 in UK. We have contacted customer service for assistance, but their suggestions have not helped, and they have now put the blame on Libra, and suggested to seek help from Libra. Libra are not responding to our help request, and I don't blame them as Sugarpixel malfunction has nothing to do with them, it is not their product. Can you please help.

    Justin, thank you for your videos. We found the Sugar Pixel because of you and my husband thinks it has been the best device ever to help our T2D journey. We recently changed from Libre 2 to the G7 so I could follow and help him be aware and keep his numbers down. But the ability for either of us to open an eye at night to see where his numbers are has been a God-send! It has been so great not to have to open our phone and look for his numbers. Thank you again for your channel and suggestions.

    I would love to see you do a video about inreda closed insuline pump. They are almost using it as a standard for diabetic type 1. It looks chunky but the patients got almost perfect sugar levels. Side note: the creater of that closed insuline pump is also a engineer that has got diabetic type 1. Now he is using his own inreda pump and can almost eat anything with almost perfect sugar levels.

    • @EverGameStudios
      @EverGameStudios 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Who is almost using it as standart? barley anyone in the world is even using it at the moment.
      while the idea is there, and most likely the tech is solid, the list of things you need to do daily/weekley and the size of it, makes it unlikely to actually catch on in the world.
      You need to do 1 fingerprick a day. The INREDA AP can ask for more fingerpricks.
      You need to change your glucagon reservoir and infusion set daily. First you have to dissolve the glucagon powder in a dissolving liquid and fill the reservoir.
      Every 3 days you need to change your insulin infusion set.
      When your insulin reservoir is almost empty, you need to change it.
      Every 6 days you need to change the (AA) batteries.
      Every 7 days you need to replace 2 sensors.
      Every month you need to change the battery of the 2 transmitters.
      Every month you need to change the glucagon adaptor.
