"'Unleashed' is about inner passion and rage coming up to the surface," said singer Jesse Leach. "We all have that wild within that often stays dormant until a tragic event triggers and awakens it. This song is about that awakening within. I feel we were able to capture something raw and intense on this song and I'm stoked for everyone to hear it! The new album "Atonement" is a reflection of perseverance and passion through the trials and suffering of our existence."
Indeed, "Atonement" is the culmination of a trying and turbulent two-year period. KsE started kicking around ideas for the album as early as 2017. The band recorded the bulk of the material separately on both coasts. However, in the middle of the process, a polyp developed scar tissue in Leach's throat, forcing him to undergo surgery. The intense three-month recovery ended with speech therapy, vocal therapy, and scream therapy. The band ultimately emerged with an album that is further evidence of their undeniable legacy as one of the most enduring metal bands of the last two decades and beyond.
The elaborate illustration on the "Atonement" album cover was created by none other than talented UK based artist Richey Beckett (Metallica, Mastodon) with the band's own Mike D'Antonio handling art direction and layout duties.

Jesse leach joined the band in 1999 and left after their second album alive or just breathing because he was suffering from depression and blew out his lung. Howard jones did not join until 2004.

I totally dig what they did on that 3:45 chorus with intermediate back vocals becoming outright raw screams. That contrast and how the tension grows through the song until this brutal release towards the end of it is just *so* good.
The lyrics.. the harmony with the screams and power singer with that rasp.. and the double bass drum sounded like thunder... This is absolutely amazing!

I was lucky enough to watch Light the Torch and Killswitch tour together this year, and they brought Howard out on stage and let him sing a few songs. And then Jessie and Howard sang signal fire together. Absolutely amazing!! This band…. You can just put their whole discography on shuffle and there will not be one song that disappoints

Wow...this is why I love Jesse and killswitch. He pours his heart and soul into these songs! Chills down my spine hearing those lyrics, he has been through some PAIN and you can hear it in his delivery. Absolutely AMAZING.

Definitely Grammy worthy, but you're up against one of Tool's best songs yet. Any other year and this song would win easily.

In july i got the honor to see these guys live at rock the park and was one of the 1st people to hear this song before they dropped the album. Ill never forget seeing him throw up everywhere and shaking my hand!. I can die happy now.

I like the different feel to this song. Love the music they create. I'm shocked though... in some interviews they talked about how they wrote almost 22 songs for this album and then whittled it down to 17. I assumed that there would be more than 11 tracks. I hope they come out in bonus tracks or one offs at least. Keep the dream alive! 🤘🤘🤘

I saw AILD and Killswitch together a few years ago, it was sick. Seen Parkway, but I've yet to see Trivium. Anyway, I can die happy 'cause I saw my two all-time favorite bands perform on the same stage. Though I no longer support AILD, I still cherish those memories.

Most metal bands I listen to have a couple songs that just didn't do it for me but with Killswitch engaged they don't have a bad song this one you know you are a legendary band . It's a shame that the music industry is so cluttered that Killswitch engage doesn't get the recognition they should, I mean they're well-known but I would argue they are the best metal band of era , I have a lot of favorites but they always bring the heat and I don't ever get tired of listening to their songs .
