  • In the 5th and final episode from the Australia leg of this trip, we're giving one last crack at a black marlin from the kayaks. The week has been tough, with nothing but sharks attacking our baits. Despite that, this trip has taught me that fishing isn't about the fish; it's about the people that this sport brings together.
The real harvest from Australia has been the new friendships formed and old bonds strengthened. This is what fishing is REALLY about.
COMMENT BELOW and tell me about a fishing trip you had that didn't go like you hoped! Who's excited for the New Zealand series and some REAL fishing action? It's going to be INSANE!

Robert I think what I enjoy or rather why I enjoy your adventures is that you know it isn't just about fishing. I started an organization in Canada that introduces wounded Soldiers to fly fishing for their physical and spiritual rehabilitation.
One day I brought two new Corporals to fish with a Major who lost both legs in Afghanistan. They started talking and kept talking and I sat and shut up. After an hour and a half the Major (rank counts for nothing there) looked at me and said "Geez our rods never came out of the cases? Then he paused and said, "This isn't about fishing is it."
I smiled and turned because I am humbled by these men and women and I shed tears every day, not out of sympathy for our soldiers, but out of anger that it cost gas money and some time to change lives and theirs was not the only life changed.
Fishing is healing, building relationships and confidence. Nuff said.

That's the common denominator that brings all those people together around you. What a wonderful life that you have created for yourself! Fish on!

Catching fish or not you're still one of the most interesting shows to watch when the weather is too bad for me to fish myself. Also completely agree, I've met many amazing people through camping, kayaking and fishing. I'm always amazed how people come from all corners of a campsite when I start barbecuing fish 😂

You know fishing from a yak puts you at a disadvantage. You try to hit home runs you strike out sometimes. That’s way it so satisfying when you do catch that big fish from a yak. It took me until I was 28 years old before I caught my first yellowtail or king fish from my yak and I will never forget that day. You put the time and work in and you don’t give up it will pay off some day!

Awesome episode and I think almost all of us that watch your channel feel the same way. My dad and I fly fish regularly with a guide in the high country in Yosemite. We’ve fished with him for over 15 years and never made a cast on the same body of water. I feel the same way you summed it up in this vid. I’m always so blown away with the beauty of the place that the fishing always ends up secondary to the experience of seeing new places and time on the water with my dad and friends. Great video and keep it up!

@@YakFishField Depends on the time of year and what you want to catch but basically if you come in winter-spring go north and south in the summer-autumn due to the weather.
It covers such a vast area it has a lot of diverse fisheries but some of the bucket list places would be Exmouth gulf area for big pelagics and billfish, Cockburn sound (yeah the name makes me laugh too) for pink snapper, Dirk Hartog island for big giant trevally and the southwest for the annual Australian salmon run.
More than happy if you want to drop me an email for more info myfishntips@gmail.com
Surprised you didn't hook up with the Aussie guys that were at the los buzos world cup, Justin is based not far from southwest rocks in southeast queensland. Damian is the man to talk to about pelagics on the west coast though, he has caught some serious fish from a kayak over here.

Next time you need to head to the top end or Great Barrier Reef area, the fishing is much better there than the NSW north coast. You can't share made memories with a fish mount! But you can relive those made memories with the people you shared making them with. You can even share those memories with anyone who wants to enjoy your stories of that mounted fish or of the fish that was not caught. The best memories are made with the people that you shared them with. Not with the fish, the deer, the jelly fish or the Roo! The best memories are the ones you made together and brand new!

Stupid question, that current was tough against you with the peddles how do you think you'd faired with a paddle? Great video as always. Waiting on the NZ vids! cheers man,

It would've been extremely tough. I would've given up, but there are stronger paddlers out there than me.
