First of all, I own a beautiful vintage cherry one myself. What I love about it is the weight reduction. Mine comes in at just over 7 lbs. it’s comfortable for extended playing sessions and feels great on my back. Also, the body on mine doesn’t show as much of the glued together sections as some of the other bodies I’ve seen on other you tube videos. Anyway, this has become my main guitar and now my only electric as I sold my Fender FMTHH which was a nice guitar but has a painted neck and 22 frets, and to be honest, the PRS plays so much better. As far as playability, mine plays great and even when using the trem, it stays in tune. The coil taps actually make a big change in the tones for me when I use them. I definitely notice a change in the bass. Anyway, some players might not notice it and comments are subjective. Currently I play mine through a Marshall DSL 40 or a Boss Katana Gen 3. Through either amp, the guitar sounds great! Also, the fret work on mine is very nice. No issues at all. Love the maple neck and satin finish on the back. Makes playing so much quicker. Hope this helps and great job on the review.
This is one of the best reviews I have seen. The control list on the side is very helpful. I am amazed you only have 2.38K subscribers so I made sure I subscribed. Thank you for your hard work!
I’m glad you mentioned the weight! I think an important to mention is that the weight of the body is distributed extensively at the bottom, which leverages the neck to be vertical. It really helps high fret access when standing up, but it does make it slip off your leg. So it’s basically the opposite of a neck dive. For me it was annoying because I played a tele for so long, and the fact that it keeps slipping off is a source of distraction compared to a big slab. However, it works as a beast at high frets and extremely lightweight, so maybe that’s for you.😊
Thank you for the kind words! I had to cut a few minutes out because it was tagged for copyright violations despite it just being me and a guitar. 🎸 oh well! There’s worse problems in life! Cheers!
Love your videos. I came from your review on the ESP LTD EC-201 FT. While I ended up getting it and not really enjoying it, it was the deepest most informative review.
Fantastic review 👏 The amount of reviews I’ve seen that are 90% playing is super frustrating and unhelpful, so many thanks for flipping that percentage 💎
I really liked the volume/tone inset while you went through your demo, so thanks for that. I have this model in the metallic ice blue and love it. I like the versatility the coil tapping provides but don't use it a ton. I also like the feel of the neck but don't have any issues with the bottom of the frets. Probably just a personal thing related to previous experience with other guitars. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for checking out the video! Glad your frets are good! I’ve talked to other owners of this guitar and they also did not have issues with the frets, so maybe just a few slipped through. Cheers!
The display of vol/tone is very welcome. More need to do that. Also letting the guitar speak for itself before distorting it got you my subscription. You can always distort a guitar the way you like. I like to hear the guitar on its own first then color as needed. This will be my first so if it is what may fit my situation may lead to other prs models. Thank You.
I wish PRS would come out with a 24" scale fixed bridge version for us newbies who have smaller older hands and also don't need a tremolo or coil taps. I would like the wide thin neck because my finger placement is not the best, or maybe a narrow thin neck to help with wrapping my fingers around better.
If you aren’t committed to PRS, the new Guild Polara is close to that feature set and about $550. Not bad! It’s a bit longer scale at 24-3/4, but it’s a great guitar.
These prices are enough to make a canadian cry I swear. Can barely get a used squier for that price here. That thing would be about 800 used here and good frikkin luck even finding one. My local shop had an se about 10 yrs ago and it was 1500$. I like your attention to detail and chanel format. Keep it up.
I always felt the PRS SE line was more the equivalent of a Fender made in Mexico vs The USA rather than a Fender vs a Fender Squire. Just like the Mexican or Japanese Fenders, the SE is made overseas for a lower cost but must adhere the the Fender \ PRS quality standards. The SEs are often priced similarly to the Fender Mexican variants with only a few models such as the Satin being available for less than £600 In fact I would state my PRS SE (Mine is a Korean model, made before they transfered to Indonesia) has better build quality, playability and athestics over my Japanese Fender Telecaster.
I own this guitar and I can say I do not feel the fret issue you speak of. I also own a PRS Santana 3 which is five times as expensive. I play the SE more than I do the Santana.
The best reviews out there 👍 Top notch graphics and solid player. The only suggestion I have would be to give us some brief sound samples before going into the main points. Hope to see lots more in 2025. Happy New Year to you 🎉
@14:05 min mark is the reason I purchased the new CE 24-08. switches like a custom 24-08 but in a CE. Limited run on them. I got the black limba and the white one. th-cam.com/video/eRVwZY7GlOk/w-d-xo.html. They don't cost as much as the core model CE but more options. Win, Win.
"They're not my favorite pickups..." Out of curiosity, what would you throw in as replacements if you really wanted this to be the "perfect" sounding budget guitar?
@@CompanyGripGuitar i cant say for sure that there is a difference due to the ash, or if its just a difference between two similar guitars, but i think mine is a little tighter on the sound. It seems like it is a little bit higher/tighter in pitch. With the bridge pickup in the tapped position, i think the sound is very similar to my strat. Of course you would never mistake one for the other, but the tone is just more similar to it.
Thorough review, but I'm pretty sure the pickups split, they don't tap. (Knock, don't tap, with a steel screwdriver, and one coil will be completely silent.) The only SE's whose coils tap are the DGT, and the Paul's Guitar and Custom 24-08 (both of which actually have a reverse tap when split to the primary coil).
Hi! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I’ve actually confirmed with PRS that they are indeed coil taps and not true splits. When the tap is activated, one of the coils is about half the output of normal. Cheers!
For a used guitar I’d get a Godin Radiator, they are about $300-400 on reverb slightly used. Great guitar, great build, great player! For new guitars, I’ve been really impressed by almost everything Jet Guitars has put out recently. I also thing the Guild Polara has been pretty awesome. Thanks for checking it out!
True. There's a guitar shop here in England where they photograoh every single unit they get in and you can pick the particular one. The difference is staggering, some had very clear and ugly lines between the different pieces of wood in the body. Others had no visible line and beautiful grain. It also shows the weight of every unit they have. I found one with beautiful grain and relatively light and decided to go for it. I'd not buy it blind as some of them are really ugly with 2 entirely visually different pieces of wood stuck together.

It’s more the Made in Mexico to the American rather than Squier to Fender
Exactly.. I just commented to say the same, The quality of the SE line up is cerftainly more akin to a Mexican or Japanese Fender rather than a Squire
Great review! Finally someone did their homework, this was very informative!

I thought CE stood for classic electric?
CE=Classic Electric
Great review. CE stands for classic electric and denotes a PRS that has a bolt on neck. The customs are all glue in set necks. 🙂👍

That’s crazy it’s so hard to find! But, I love Godin guitars and those are hard to find here and I guess semi plentiful up there?

This is the first time I've seen the charcoal color on the satin model. It looks a lot better than the cherry and turquoise.
I agree too! Thanks for checking it out!
No the turquoise is gorgeous

CE means Classic Electric
The nexk on the CE goes into the body thats why it screws into the body the way it does.
Yes. I was just surprised they didn’t have it screw in like the expensive CE models, where the body doesn’t jut out at the neck portion.
Does this guitar have a floating bridge
Very little if I recall.

Yeah I just got a epiphone sg 61 and the three way switch was bad sent it back and the next one I grote the tone knob was bad ????
Just picked up a sandblasted red version and can say these are excellent. Ive got a mccarty 594 and a 245, but the ce24 is now my favorite.
Awesome! Great guitar! Curious how the swamp ash affects the tone?

Can the bridge do dive bomb and squeal?
I don’t think you’ll be dive bombing on this one, sorry.
@@CompanyGripGuitar do we need floyd rose for dive bombing?
@@csaba8774 Generally, I think being able to lock the strings in is a must-need feature for continued bombing.
How wide is the neck not long but width. Mine is chocolate brown it was the wrong color. I didnt like the smoothness and its very heavy.
At which fret?
Nevermind. They sent me a dud alot wrong with it it's not playable, I'm going for a full refund.

The pickup selector looks like in a pretty odd spot.
It is a bit odd, admittedly.
$500 is still a fair amount of money for a guitar that is essentially pretty ugly looking with that mismatched wood.
