  • A garden filled with peonies blooms sounds pretty nice! But COLD WEATHER is what triggers peonies to bloom and here in the Napa Valley we don't get a lot of that. Aileen talks about the three types of peonies, which types are easiest to grow in Napa, ad how to get even the trickiest type to have a big show of flowers.
    Covered in this video:
-3 Types... Herbaceous, Tree, and Itoh
-Tricks for getting blooms in USDA Zone 9
-Bare root vs potted: pros and cons
    -Fertilizer requirements

I really enjoyed your presentation. I live in North Carolina so it's interesting to see how different areas take care of their peonies. I have all 3 types of peonies with over 25+ different Itoh peonies.

Always great to get a hot summer z9 perspective! I grow in z9b here in Texas, and the learning curve for sun exposure and time of year is interesting considering I used to garden in zones 4, 6, and 7.
Last summer, even my cosmos and zinnias were burning frying!

Can you tell me how much ice, how often and for how long you add ice around the roots. Like add 2 cups of ice every night from December - February etc. I’m sure it’s not exact but just a general plan. I know a good size plant is an investment so I just want to know if I can manage it first.

What mulch do you like best? I have to buy a bunch, I really like a natural look.
