i remember the person next to me fell asleep during our marching drill in bootcamp and she busted her face on the pavement. i ended up falling asleep during our final PI drill in bootcamp because we had just finished our OPFA and i gave all my energy in that run

Bruh, another SGT came up to me my first week in the unit and goes "How much is your Facebook subscription?" I was like "What?" He asked "How much you pay for Facebook a month?" So naturally I said $0. He was like "Oh, I pay $2300 a month." I was like ... dafuq? Turns out a woman he 'encountered' on TDY got knocked up and found hin on Facebook, now he pays child support and backpay haha.

The brotherhood in the military surpasses even familial bonds. I almost volunteered to go over to Ukraine, but I have a wife, house, etc. now and didn't want to risk making her a widow.

I mastered sleep standing up in boot camp. I slept through graduation while I was standing in formation and would wake up momentarily to do a command then go back to sleep. Never missed one command.

I remember one unit I was in asking if you had any live rounds after the range. I said no and they said, "why not?"
Before I got into some trouble I was set to go to basic training, was recruited for linguistics and code breaking but I wanted to be either a sniper/ designated marksman or operate the really big guns.
Around 8:15 in the video, I agree that it's the comraderie that I miss the most. That special brotherhood that you have with the soldier to your left right front and back, the stupid shit you do with them in the field, especially the extra stupid garrison shit that happens.

My butter bar Lt. Picked only building in combat town w/o a roof. Then had us sleep in it during a sleet storm. (He had to go home that night, he had dentist appointment next day)

Dunno about American military but during infantry training, there were “amnesty bins” that you could put live and blank rounds in if you found it so you didn’t have to get smoked by plt Sgt’s…
Very quickly when on exercise it would be the “amnesty bush” rather than the bins and that is the case on every exercise or range now
