    Thank you, Marnie. It was vey kind of you to talk about Houston and surrounding areas. It is a nightmare here. I live in Houston and I try everyday not to be sad and to be encouraging. There is so much kindness and generosity from complete strangers, and we are so grateful. Have a great week and blessings to you❤️

      Seeing the videos and pictures of your beautiful city breaks my heart. We endured the wrath of Super Storm Sandy a few years ago, and many areas still have not fully recovered. Sadly, rebuilding takes a very long time, and having to adopt a new "normal" is so stressful. Many blessings to you all, and please know that we New Jerseyians feel your pain. Many police departments are holding "Stuff a Truck" events where donations of water, diapers, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, gift cards, etc. are collected. Most trucks are leaving early next week. Animal shelters are taking in pets from Texas shelters that were not affected by the storm, so that these shelters can help reunite lost pets with their families.

      I replied to another comment from you, but I wanted to again say that it is my pleasure to do whatever I can to help distract you or put a smile on your face. It helps to focus on the positive, and it has really warmed my heart to see not only Texans, other Americans, but people from all over the world coming together to help after this devastation. Yes, there are bad people in the world, but this just proves that there are so many more good people out there! I'm thinking of you and your husband Jean-hang in there!

    Thank you for your sweet words at the end of the blog. Coming from one of the hardest hit towns in the Houston area (Dickinson), it really means a lot. The outpouring of love from around the USA has been so heartwarming. We were lucky in our home, but watching and helping friends and neighbors literally gut their homes has been life changing. Seeing the community come together has been the best part. Nobody is talking about politics because everyone is just focused on helping each other. ❤️❤️

    Thank you from Houston. We just got back to our house last night after being under mandatory evacuation for a week. I came to TH-cam today to get a little escape from this nightmare we have been living. We are very fortunate that we only had damage from roof leaks and the water stopped at our porch. Please pray for our city, the devastation is truly awful!

    I live in Houston - the West side. We got hit hard. Buffalo Bayou runs behind my neighborhood. My neighborhood took on a lot of water, homes were ruined. To make matters worse, we had looters, so we now have 24 hour police protections. The outpouring of support has been very heartwarming. Such a blessing.

      Crythomas That is so very kind of you. My sister lost her home and her car. She left with the clothes on her back and flip flops. The shoes fell apart the next day and she was given a pair of men's beach shoes which she said we're golden to her! I think what they want now are donations to local churches, the Red Cross, Salvation Army....... These can be cash which can then go to the right place. Churches seem to get things to the right places quicker. I live in Kingwood and our HEB flooded, but they set up a mobile unit across the street to pass out hot meals.My husband had a stroke last year and it has been hard. I have to make so many decisions on my own, but people are so kind. We did not lose our home, we live in a small apt, and we are so grateful.

      Jean, my prayers go out to you. My mom went through the same with my Dad many years ago and I know its a tough situation with your husband. I helped her with my Dad as much as I could, I was working at the time. Take time for yourself, it's important. My Dad had to be put in a nursing home as he was left side neglect from his stroke, there was no way my Mom could lift him or do the things the nursing home could. I had to beg her to take time for herself and do things she loved to do such as play bridge. You need that release for your self. I pray for your sister, thankfully she is a live. I have a cousin in Corpus Christi and thankfully him and his family are all good. Friends in Rockport that are fine, I just don't know if they lost property yet. I'm just thankfully they all are alive. God Bless you and my prayers and thoughts are with you.

    I have a new respect for you Marnie...for acknowledging Houston and making a vlog that feels just right. Even tho others live far away from the devastation I have unsubscribed to several -- kind of an "aha" moment about who we really are. No more Gucci unboxing for me and I'm really tired of the excess in our lives. You are a smart woman in this crazy world. On a lighter note I love your shorter hair, it really suits you. Thanks again.

    I do oven potatoes regularly, and my trick is to pop them in the microwave first. I chop them, then place them in a microwave safe dish, cover with cling wrap and give them about 5 mins or so, just to start them off. Then about 30 mins in the oven at around 180 degrees C. xx

    Marnie, 1) thank you for mentioning Houston. I live in Corpus Christi, and we rode it out in our home. Harvey hit north of us, we were on the "good" side of the storm, and there were moments I was second guessing the decision to stay. It was bad, but we only had damage to our fence and a tree...clearly NOTHING like what Rockport north to Houston have gone through. 2) can you please put more car dancing in your vlogs? That was awesome. :)

    I have spent some time today just watching YT and trying to take my mind off the devastation surrounding me. Yesterday was spent helping a family member pull out all the parts and pieces of her life this flood ruined. It was nice to see your and Kristen's (among other's) Vlogs this morning. I too debated on what to post but we all need a break from the devastation, including those still suffering so much. You are right, the world does keep spinning and like so many others I am craving normalcy. SO today I am grasping at that thing called "normalcy" and doing my best to give it to the ones staying with us after the horror of this past week. Hugs to all of you watching who have been impacted by Harvey. I've seen and personally experiences some pretty amazing people over this past week.

    Hi Marnie. Love your videos. As you mention in video how to get crunchy potatoes? Base on my experience I never add salt First. I let the potato cook first completely. On 350 & last 5 min on low broil & then I add salt when they are out of oven. Because salt ooze out water so they don't get crunchy. I hope this help. 😊

    My prayers have been going out to everyone affected by the hurricane. I wanted to answer your question about getting crispy potatoes in the oven. I roast mine with olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh rosemary and salt and pepper at 475 for about 30 minutes and they are crisp and delicious!!! Don't mess with them after you pop them in the oven. Leave the door shut and let them go.

    So happy to know you and you family is doing well. We live in the Houston area so seeing and feeling all the devastation from hurricane Harvey heartbreaking. Both my husband and my son are first responders and they have been working tirelessly to help those affected by this devastation. My son's area was evacuated so he had to get whatever rest he could get at his DPS station. We couldn't get to him and of course he couldn't get to us. That was terrifying😱 however he has been able to get back to his place. Can't say that life is getting back to normal but it will as we all move forward together day by day. Helping each other, praying for each other, and coming together in tough times. Most of my family lives in San Antonio as well so I was happy to hear y'all were fine. Thank you to you Marnie for your support and brining us a sense of normalcy, a lil laughter, and just a bright spot during the day.

    Just out of curiosity, is there a reason why you guys visit Jake as much as you do? It seems like a far drive to be going as much as you do. My son is in school only 5 1/2 hours away and I can't imagine going there more than twice a year (and only during football season 😃) to see him at school. He comes home for all of the major school breaks so we see him then. Again, just curious.

    • @MsGoldgirl
      @MsGoldgirl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BlackcatNZ Thank you! I have no idea! I haven't been to Houston in any meaningful way in over 10 years! It's about 3 or more hours away from me. I know it's a very large city-4th largest in the country.

      BlackcatNZ I have driven through Houston many times, if its not during peak traffic times it takes us about an hour.

    Thinking about all those poor people , been watching news for while now, from UK. Also heart goes out to those in Asia. All so sad. Will donate to both. Won't pray though as I'm British and agnostic ; )

    @msgoldgirl Enjoyed the video, just one small note, I am visually impaired, the text on the screen you put up was unreadable to me due to it being black writing on a darker background, the white background did not cover the full text, I think it would have been better with white text instead.

    • @MsGoldgirl
      @MsGoldgirl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I apologize-when I did that in editing the full white background covered the full text. I was quite surprised to see it didn't work when I watched it back later on YT!

      @Marnie How odd, it didnt detract from the video too much, Rowdy was super cute with his ball :) I hope Shane is feeling much better now and you get to spend some time with Jake.

    Love your vlogs, look forward to them. Your hair looks really good. I'm with you on the Salmon, not a fan. My daughter likes it, but she can go eat it at Grandma's house. I can eat grilled fish tacos and I love grilled Maui Maui because that fish doesn't taste fishy at all! That's my thing, it can't be fishy tasting. I would of dumped the eco system out too if it smelled of rotting fish. lol. I don't know if you watch Dominique Sachse, local Houston news anchor. She did a video on Helping Harvey Victims and in her down box she lists a lot of information links for those affected by the Hurricane. I was going to cut and past them here, but there are a lot. Thanks again Marnie, for sharing your family with us weekly, it's a nice little distraction from our own lives. Take care.

    What a lovely vlog, We are from the uk but a big American fan of everything and have been watching constantly the terrible devastation of the hurricane and the brave rescues of not only people but animals too. It's a little more difficult to keep up to date as Fox News has been taken off for Uk viewers. Hope things get better there x

      You can go online and google a Houston News station and read or watch updates in regards to the hurricane aftermath. Dominque Sahse is a news Anchor for a Houston local station KPRC and she does You Tube videos also, you can google her station and check out the latest on the Hurricane. take Care.

    Marnie, the best thing for people to do is donate money to reputable organizations who will take that money to buy things needed and purchase from resources near Houston which in turn boosts the economy there and prevents wasting money. People don't realize that the clothing sent there will never go to the people because there is no storage areas or cleaning facilities to wash or store the clothes. In the end they have to pay to remove and destroy the clothing. Toys and books and household goods get throw out too, because remember people have no homes , therefore no place to use these things. People should donate money today and continue to in the months/year ahead to really impact these poor people. Watch on youtube , The Sunday Morning show (CH 2 ) that aired today and you will see what I'm saying is the reality. I never knew too. God Bless Houston.

    Thank you for acknowledging the Houston tragedy unlike CoffeeBreakwithDani, who lives in Dallas. She vlogged the first 3 days Harvey began and mentioned not one word of it. Instead, she bought a purse and cried about not having a man in her life.

    Hi. I know your videos reach a lot of people can you please also put something about another area hit hard by the hurricane. These areas are being overlooked because of the media attention on Houston. They are Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, and Rockport. They were hit by the winds which were 130 + miles per hour. Rockport has 60 percent of the homes destroyed or totaled. Here is a website that is excepting donations for just these areas. www.kris6cares.com.
