    Craig, I have a Xiaomi Mi9 and it comes with a extra button and you can have it so instead of running google assistant, You can choose Alexa as your assistant. That way you can just press the button at anytime in any app and it will automatically start listening for a command, Not to be confused with opening the Alexa app which would still lose the point, But again, Pressing the phones integrated extra button lets Alexa right away start listening to you and its really effective!

    Step #1: On an iPhone a faster way would be to just create a shortcut in the “Shortcuts” App to Open Alexa App.
    Step #2: Then go to Settings> Accessibility> Touch> Back Tap> then either choose double tap or triple tap and choose the shortcut that you just created in step #1. Once everything is setup you juts have to double tap or triple tap the back of your iPhone to launch 🚀 the Alexa App. I chose triple taps to prevent accidental openings of the Alexa App. Your phone still needs to be unlocked but this method is much quicker to activate Alexa on an iPhone. No need to even talk to Siri.

    I have echo frames and they were great to get Alexa hands free, but still have Siri. I also found out by accident that if wanted noise cancellation listening and not open ear hearing I can put in my air pod pros and hear from them. Some advice connected the frames first so that the volume goes through the pods and not the frames and second don’t use the touch pad on the frames or the sound will switch over

    Thank you for another honest video with good information about Alexa. As you stated, I can't see using this "hands-free" option when "Hey Google" will accomplish everything that you demonstrated herein. The ONLY thing that is appealing is to say the one word wake up, "Alexa" rather than the the 2 word "Hey Google."

    Excellent! Thanks Greg. Yes I will use this. I was just saying to a friend yesterday that I really really really need an Alexa in my old Tesla. While driving I keep wanting to ask Alexa to add to a list, tell me what's on a list or set a reminder or whatever. Now, on my Moto G6, I can just ask Google to open the Alexa app and ask Alexa without having to click buttons. I wonder if she'll come through the car speakers like the phone calls do...

    I can see a use for it in your car or outside home instead getting getting an echo auto (for the car)... connect to your car or Bluetooth speaker and now you have an easy mobile Alexa...
    I can also kinda of get the reason for it Not being able to be used without the phone unlocked as maybe the lack of ESP on the phone app could make it frustrating to use at home with your home Alexa devices....
    Just my thoughts...

    Thanks, Craig. I've really been wanting this, but probably not so much in its present form. Even if the phone is unlocked, I don't necessarily want Alexa to respond to my phone in the house when I'm trying to show something on an Alexa Show. I don't see a way to make it respond to any other wake word besides "Alexa." Using Simple Commands I can ask Alexa now to open my garage door (yep, I know the security concerns) so it could be handy when I'm out for a walk or coming home in the car. I can unlock my Pixel 3 in my pocket so could use it then maybe. It would also be handy for running any of my numerous Alexa routines. It will be useful in the car..maybe. This feature pretty much kills the "Echo Auto" it seems although I gave mine away already because of the cords/mounting/etc. I was hoping that using my PixelBuds would get around the lock requirement, but it didn't. Oh well...so close, but still so far. Thanks, Craig!!!

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could simply change the wake word for your other devices to either Echo , Computer , or another wake word which i forgot. It would prevent you from activating you devices in your home.

    • @HughD
      @HughD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josephbennett3482 Thanks, but changing the wake word for devices I use many times a day by my wife and me for the sake of using my phone occasionally wouldn't be a practical solution here, but I appreciate the thought.

    • @josephbennett3482
      @josephbennett3482 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HughD I'm pretty since the app controls all Echo devices all of the devices would ignore the wake word if you're not directly speaking to one of them because mine do that , if they activate after noticing the wake word then they turn back off like 2 seconds later when they don't hear any commands for them so i am very sure you still can use the app's feature at home.

      I think that would be great. An echo or fire phone is something Amazon needs to keep staying competitive. I hope you are right. Hope you are doing well.

      Unfortunately not at this time. It would be nice to see that become an option.

      @@CraigsTechTalk When you take over Amazon could you please make this a priority?

      That is awesome. I look forward to that day. Since you were the one that inspired that idea I will have to make it a priority.

    I have to pick up my phone and activate the screen, open the app and it’s only useful while the app is open and not after my screen times out. Once I do all of that I could just hit the little blue button.

      Hello Alan, I am right there with you. For me, it is not worth the extra steps. It sounds like a good idea, but not so practical. Thanks for watching this video Alan.

    Some phones let you use gestures to wake up the assistant, and you can get Alexa to work that way, but I really want is to wake up Alexa with my voice on a locked phone.... By the way I'm using Alexa in Mexico and hands free works here too....

    Hello Craig! My father is 82 years old and blind :( Could you please recommend me the easiest phone to use with Alexa to buy for him please? Also, my dad lives in Peru and he will be using the cell phone there. I will really appreciate your recommendation. Thank you so much 😊

      Hello Carol the phone you get won’t have much to do with how it affects Alexa and the app. I think the thing that you want to consider is how you can help your father use the phone. By either having the same phone as you or if he owns a phone that other people around have so he can ask questions. But whether it’s android or iPhones the app acts the same. There are some LG and Motorola phones that have Alexa built in. But I don’t know enough about those to make any recommendations.

      @@CraigsTechTalk - Thank you, I really appreciate you taking your time to reply to my message. This morning my sister’s brother in law also suggested me to get a cell phone with a built in Alexa like you mention. I think I’ll be buying the Motorola G7 for my dad. Thanks again 😊
