      I always feel more confident after watching your videos. I have a three year old GSD, and I started training her the day I brought her home. First thing I taught her was to look at me. Nothing mattered but that for two days and it’s never stopped. It has been the best thing I ever did. HOWEVER, it’s the reactive on leash that I struggle with. I watched one of your videos just this morning, and thought; I can do this. I took her out and low and behold there was a cat under my car! She went nuts, so I did what you taught and corrected her with confidence and she came with me! I walked her past that cat 10 times before bringing her in the house. So, I’ve been binwatching your videos all day. You have no idea what a difference it has made in just a couple of hours. THANK YOU!’

    It's really cool seeing a different type of dog here, one that is trained but need some polish. And it helps us not forgeting that thing: we want a obedient dog, but they need to have fun! They are not inexpressive robots. How good is to watch your dog focused and having fun with you, right? 😁

    Didn't see any "two dogs together training" as the title says, though. I'd like to see that since it is difficult. It seems most say train them separately. In theory - yes; but time consuming - yes! Then once they are together again, all bets seem to be off because they are back to bouncing off each other's actions again! Help!

    • @Emma-fe6yt
      @Emma-fe6yt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, would have liked to see both dogs together! I wondered if the nervous pup gained any confidence from the other one
      I don't have two dogs so I'm definitely not an expert here, but I can try to give my 2 cents if you haven't already tried this. I would take super itty bitty baby steps. If you can have both dogs in a good heel separately and not reacting to distractions on normal walks, then start with both dogs together and literally just do a few steps at a time, as many times a day as you can. Start in a very low distraction environment, and super slowly build up to your normal walking routes. Like I said, I don't have two dogs, but with any walking issue (or really any issue in general) that's how I've done it with my guy and have had tons of success. If they can't walk nicely together in your house then you can't expect them to walk nicely together when they see a squirrel down the street 🤷 also, set them up for success! If you know they are gonna ping pong off each other in certain situations, until you are confident they each can handle those situations individually, I would keep them separate. Rehearsing those behaviors you don't want makes it harder and harder to get rid of them. I'm curious to know if you've tried these things and how it worked out for you, good luck!

      @@nikki6563 that's a great plan!! My pup is a little nervous with strangers, and putting him on the opposite side has helped a ton to provide him a little extra space when we pass people. He also gets distracted by other dogs and it helps us to reduce that distraction as well :) To help teach them to get into a position, I taught my pup to put his paws up on an upside down dog bowl. You can stand right next to the bowl and call them into position and they learn exactly where they're supposed to be! You can even start to turn your body and teach them to pivot with you while they have their front paws up

    "Just that one thing of saying 'Good boy' instead of 'Good heal', will throw everything off"

    • @Emma-fe6yt
      @Emma-fe6yt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just posted a comment about this, but I'm confused by this. We want to only say a command once, but if we say "good heel" and the word heel is tied to the heeling action, it's basically repeating the word again for our dogs. The dog isn't going to distinguish between "heel, good, heel" (repeating heel command after saying good) or "heel, good heel" (praising saying they did a good heel). I feel like I'm having a hard time explain haha does what I'm trying to say make sense? Basically I'm just trying to say I think we should just say "good" which means they did a good job at whatever command we threw at them before!

    • @stitch10925
      @stitch10925 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Emma-fe6yt The initial "heel" command is given once. If they comply you reward them with praise (higher pitched voice) and repeat the command so they know what they are being praised for. "Good heal!" Praising them for following the heal command.
      When they do not follow the command, that is when you apply (leash) pressure or deepen your voice. By doing so you "punish" them for not obeying. Once they do what you ask, you again praise following the command so they can strengthen the association between what they did and the command.
      At least, that is what I'm getting from watching Tom's video's. I'm far from a professional.

    Every dog is different... most trainers do not post videos of hard dogs to train...aka a not smart/stubborn dog. I wanna train a smart dog.

    Eh? I thought you were going to show them being handled together, at the same time :/. Still good stuff though.

    what if the dog is deaf and they can’t hear you say ‘good heal’ or ‘good sit’ the verbal is non existent.

    What is your opinion on begging? Good, bad, neutral? My dog will beg and then I will tell her to go to her bed while I’m at the kitchen table. But she will watch me from there.
    I see this as okay as long as she’s not in my lap while I eat.

    I've started watching your videos to learn how to train my dog. He's 118lbs, and he's 3 years old. We recently had to move to an apartment complex from a house with a privacy fenced in yard, but now he's exposed to all kinds of other dogs and people. He has never liked men, and it has gotten worse since we've lived here. I have learned some interesting things from your videos, and I'm hoping that I can possibly get him trained before something horrible happens.

    Why do you say "good sit" or "good down" instead of just saying "good"? If you ask them to "sit" and then say "good sit", I feel like that's just repetitive and could be confusing. "Sit" means to sit, and if we only want to say it once when we ask them to sit, why would we say it again?

      It is to strengthen the association between the action and the command. You tell them what you're praising them for.

    Did he train these dogs with an e collar by any chance??? When they're the wrong way with an e collar ...they can act just like this...complying robotic.... almost fearful.. Definately NOT happy.... He needs to raise his tone of voice..and show some emotion.... did he say why he has them on his right..not his left??

    You wanna try working three 100 pound GSD's at the same time? Mom, dad, and daughter... Due to the daughter having health issues, $13 thousand later in vet bills, I couldn't let mom and dad correct her during recovery, and unfortunately it stuck. Long story short, she thinks she's the boss of them, and when she's with them, she thinks she's the baddest bitch in Upstate NY. She's more manageable by herself, but straight mob mentality when she's with her parents... It's just stupid, and I have to be all over her, cause she's a predator.
