using "for the sake of the world (without words)" as the opening track was such a beautiful way to subtly convey your message of empathy and your channel's overarching theme that your business isn't self-serving or where you find your identity. small detail but powerful stuff so kudos to you
Aw man, I wish I could take credit for that one, but that was definitely some beautiful serendipity. Absolutely love that you're looking for things like that though because I've been loving putting easter eggs in to everything I make now.
this is such an opposite mindset to what I feel like everyone tells me, especially at where I am now in the very beginning stages of my creative business. i love this. i love how you're spreading the message that you don't need to squash empathy to be successful. it's so real and I feel myself thinking "how dare you", or "they don't even know how much work I do" types of thoughts so often lately. the busy of it all makes me forget why I originally do what I do. I do photography and videography and creative projects bc i love it and I love people and I love making art and connecting with people over art. "love is patient love is kind love keeps no record of wrongs love forgives..." (-Corinthians 13:4-8). and in the context of wedding videography (I'm shooting my first wedding next month🎉) it's an important and stabilizing message you spread in this video. thank you for sharing it !!
as someone who has been watching your channel and creativity mature over the last couple years, i just wanna say i appreciate the extra time and care you still put into your youtube community/audience. it's not that hard to setup a couple lights and find a nice frame in your studio or home, but narrative sections of this video takes planning, storyboarding, specific camera movements....we appreciate the effort man👌
Beautiful, and incredibly thoughtful, as always. As a wedding filmmaker of 15 years who has tapered off into new directions, I relate so much to all of these sentiments. Really appreciate your time and empathetic values - it shows :)
I have no idea how anyone finds time to do anything creatively with as many kids as you have. Kudos for staying on the creative path while balancing everything else.
Yeah, what @ERICKEYellow said..honestly haha - have been so absent on this channel as I've been growing my running channel & working on the doc like crazy. So pumped to get consistent on here again, but so much of that return is because Cyrus is working with me now and helping with all of the production & editing.
Strong hobbyist here. Lost my passions for photography because of work + two young kids. Your video resonates more than just being an artist. As a working professional, i find myself hating my boss and time at work more and more because of the sacrifices towards family and my hobby. You are right. We need to be mindful of who we are being selfish / selfless to. It is balance, and there is no winning. But making the right choices at each intersection, I hope to come out the other side, still intact and passionate about photography.
So, so good! This hit home for me. It's been a struggle to balance life and the things that matter and continue to find joy in shooting weddings this year. We diversified and took on school volume photography in order to grow the business and continue doing this for a living. Thanks for your honesty and introspection.
Thank you so much Eric for editing and putting together this deep TH-cam video. Our team and I have just expanded by adding in more creatives to our team and even doing more weddings this year moving forward. This video spoke SOO MUCH VOLUME about how we should look at taking care of couples, other professional vendors we work with on top of ourselves. Thank you so much, this video inspired me to take this message and apply it to my professional and personal life.
needed this, thank you. striking a perfect balance, while always a goal, is near impossible. an important reminder to just take things as they come and treat them with the individual care they deserve. thanks eric, best to you and your family
That passion can be seen in every step you make which is really nice. With that being said, shooting weddings is great but let's keep it real. It will become a hobby next to your destined proffesion of an elite runner 😉.
It gives me chills that you edited and airdropped those photos to the bride. I remember my special day well, nearly 18 years ago. A gesture like that would have been so cool. Great video!
I haven't captured a wedding in a couple months and it feels like decades, but thank you for the reminder and for providing the other perspective that creatives should think about more often!!
100% relatable in every sense. I've been there and I am there. I feel you man. Thank you for creating awesome content, and for taking the time to make it look awesome.
The daddy-daughter moment. Ah. So good. Melissa and I are having our fourth child in the next three weeks. Life is very full, but so very good. I think this take on creative business is so key. Selflessness is not something often championed in the artist world, but truly it is one of the most life-giving habits to your creativity and to your soul to serve selflessly with your art.
Always enjoy whatever you make bro! This was a great perspective! Thank you for making this and for sharing it with the world. As a father of 4 I totally understand the hustle and bustle of Saturday lol.
Loved this. Taking the time to explain the thought process and reevaluating your time, approach and effort you put in, is so hard, but so rewarding. Thanks for always coming through with the honesty!
It was an honor to watch that moment unfold, seeing you say "yes" so easily was definitely an inspiring moment for me, and helped reenergize my creative approach for this season
My journey has looked a lot like yours. I no longer shoot weddings, but I’ve got 5 kids now and a team of employees shooting videos. The opening to your video was so relatable. Here with you in the craziness my man.
Always such sage advice on the craft of wedding photography. Always appreciate it brother. Truly feel like I am slowly walking in the shoes you once wore and it is crazy to see unfold
So happy for you man of all of the work you have been doing! But I gotta be honest, I really missed this type of content… motivating us to be bette, not only as a business but as a human being, and care more for our clients. Thank you Eric!! 👊 👊 👊
I'm at the start of my wedding filmmaking career, and I'm coming up on a month where I'll shoot three weddings... and it'll be a process figuring out how to juggle giving the time and creativity that each one deserves, along with other work and commitments. If you have any advice for how to balance that desire to give each client the very best with the realities of growing a young business... I'm all ears! 😁 Great message and it's awesome to see your openness and vulnerability.
Oh man, I feel this. I’ve been there for sure. One thing I wish I did was give each film 80-90%. Not 100% - it feels counter-intuitive given my philosophy of serving my clients & giving my best, but if you’re giving 100% every time, the latter ones will be half as good, and you’ll feel burnt out. It’s a balance of making some of the things the same, but differentiating each one enough to give the film the uniqueness it deserves. Your clients will rarely ever notice your 85% versus your 100%. 100 on each one is entirely unsustainable at that volume.
@@EricFlobergWhat is this 80-90% of which you speak?? 🤣 That’s great advice, and I hear what you’re saying. It’s not about giving anyone a bad product; it’s about figuring out how to tell a unique story without having to pour EVERYTHING into EVERY film. Maybe I’ll write that down on a post-it and stick it to my monitor… 🤔 Thanks, man - I appreciate you!
Always a pleasure to see one of your videos, appreciate your philosophical approaches and love to hear that you're still shooting weddings. Thankful for you man, wouldn't be where I am without that mentorship years ago. 🤟
This is so good Eric! Selflessness & Empathy are two very important espects of working in the wedding industry. Thanks for sharing your journey with us😁
Hello! I’m new here but wanted to say that I really enjoy and appreciate your high-quality content, which made me hit the subscribe button. Greetings from Southern California ☀️
This is something I keep hearing from Wayward North that we should be there to serve the couple and the people there and not just try to get the shots that we want. Really good advice
Great video man. Sitting here trying to work with some vids playing in the background...nope. Looks like a quick 7 min break. Couldn't stop watching haha
Great vid. I don’t think I could shoot a wedding. There are so many moving parts and keep it all organized plus a second or third assistant, it would be a lot. I am pretty content with being a hobbyist photographer.
Man, I dedicated most of my 20s to shooting weddings. At 29, I feel somewhat of regret. Maybe I should have been building more relationships, potentially a family. As weddings have died down, I'm unsure if it is worth it as I approach 30. I'm looking for another path.
Did your wedding planner gets communion from you? I been asked from 20 to 30% for “recommendation” for bride from different planners. I think it’s nuts!
So true.. thanks for sharing your thoughts and your business growth Eric. 🫶wedding volume on weddings is really not a sustainable way to create creative work.
Another part of the equation is volume does affect your work life balance and life outside of your craft. Unless you scale your business big enough that you don’t have to handle the day to day operations which kind of defeats the purpose of creative work. Tough balance. 😆

Looks like the Floberg kids are turning into fantastic actors! 😀They did an unbelievable job!
I'm so proud of them & how they did. This is also exactly how some mornings are too though hahaha

Hi Erick
Hero
So true.. thanks for sharing your thoughts and your business growth Eric. 🫶wedding volume on weddings is really not a sustainable way to create creative work.
It’s such a tricky balance. I’m convinced that if you want to be doing them really well and really creatively, they have to almost be your sole focus.
Another part of the equation is volume does affect your work life balance and life outside of your craft. Unless you scale your business big enough that you don’t have to handle the day to day operations which kind of defeats the purpose of creative work. Tough balance. 😆
