Cavalon was the first Tape game I got bought for my C64. In those days I had 3 cartridges, International Soccer, Jupiter Lander & Lazarian. Dad bought a generic silver tape recorder to play tapes and Cavalon. I played it a lot but never got beyond the 2nd level. Years later I got a cracked version and finally finished it.
I bought Matchday II specifically for the cover art. Taught me a big lesson. It cost me over £10 from WH Smith and was SO disappointing that it left a very sour taste for years to come. After that I was a strictly John Menzies newsagent £1.99 - £2.99 budget Mastertronic/Codemasters kid until I got my Megadrive Xmas '90 and put the C64 in the loft.
I think it was a mixed bag especially on C64. I had many of these growing up and one in particular that seemed bad even as a 10 year old was Shadow Warriors.
Head over Heels is a game i am planning to try again. Wasn't quite able to beat it as a kid. There was some puzzle i could never figure out. It is amazing! with a learning curve though early on.
Oh, how frustrating it was to watch you not advancing at all in that Rollerball game very early in the video :D It looked like it was a pretty nice version of that concept. The idea isn't to trap the ball, but to claim over 75% of the screen to yourself. You do it by closing off parts of the screen by doing different types of closed shapes. For example if you manage to go from top to bottom then part of the screen becomes filled to show it is claimed by you. If you can't do that, then you can claim the screen in smaller portions. You can very quickly claim part of the screen by just going down, moving right and heading back up. The small rectangle you created becomes filled and claimed by you. If the enemy ball touches the line before you have finished claiming part of the screen you lose a life. I'm sure you have no interest to go back and try it again but I just had to explain this because it was sooo frustrating to watch, especially as you ALMOST managed to claim part of the screen at the very end of the clip :D
Great video....but. Next time you're recording games in an emulator... turn off the pixel rounding feature so it's just like a real machine. With pixels. I love pixels. And it seems like you're really bad at playing... Other than that... Great video.
Even for the times, Top Gun was sh!te. This came out AFTER games like Spitfire Ace or ACE & ACE II, yet looked like some Tomy Tronic battery powered game from the local market stall.

Absolute monumental times
Jay your channel is proper nostalgic treasure !! I love it
Best way to be 😀
I loved android 2 back in the early days!! Also, the way you used a along from the relevant years is a really good idea.
Kinda was fun to play, but definitely the wrong C64 era for me.

Haha. That was the misleading cover art days.
Ocean was a legendary software company back in the day. I loved their Amiga and Speccy releases

Played so many of these games, good times!
Many greats here but also a heck load of stinkers

Believe it or not it has been released several times even in recent times.

Hey there. I will give it another shot at some point.
Nice video, well put together. Enjoy the content on your channel. Stay retro!
Hey. Nice one. I am constantly in the planning stages for another video like this.
Do you know the sid file of 1985's Tears for Fears - Everybody wants to rule the world? I can't find on the net.
I linked it on my C= Channel Trailer

Failing that try CSDB.
I didn't have many (legit) games, but was usually happy when I saw the Ocean logo pop-up. Maybe I was just lucky (?)
Many copies back in the day lol
You have all your scores wrong. The lemon scores are not percentages (out of 100) they are out of 10.
Yup. Whole numbers/percentages dosent matter though. Just pretend % dosent display.
Yeah, I couldn't believe once he said Hunchback was 7%, I had to go Lemon64 to double-check it.
@RetroCave-wr9tl rest assured. The percentage situation has been cleared:

Cheers. I will take that on board for the next video.

Yup. Top Gun was absolutely terrible on every level.
I thought I had alot of Ocean games for my C=64. But I don't know 75% of these games.
Lots of forgotten titles.
@JustJamie1983 Yeah most I didn't know existed sadly.
You calculated the score a bit strange. If lemmon64 scores 7.5, then it is 7.5 out of 10. So 75% and not 7.5%.
Please check other comments.
I did not like Rambo 3 game much, but I liked the movie even less. But I had a rad Rambo 3 poster (Rambo on a horse).
Yup. Bad film. My favourite part of the C64 game is the music.
