  • Hello everyone! We were extremely privileged to get access to view some upcoming features for SE2 that won't be present in V slice 1. Marek & Xocliw showcase some of the features currently in development and have allowed us to film and upload some! Please note, all features are subject to change as per SE2 development.

submarines yes, they said that one of the reasons they switched to the new engine was the old one's incompatibility with fluid simulation and they've shown tests the're doing with water in the new game

If they’re already thinking about what basicly are quality of life things this early on (like the connector auto dock) this game is gonna be full of those great little things!
Offcourse this is because of their experience with the first game but it’s still pretty amazing to have a developer actually listening to their community. Instead of doing everything to prevent players from abusing the grid systems they create a unified grid system to make it easier, better and incentivise it even more.
    Fucking bravo Keen!

Something that I hope but that they still do not mention is aerodynamics, I really want them to implement so that aircraft do not feel like bricks with propellants in Atmosphere.

That's one of those things that feels very logical given that it was a very popular mod for SE1 and that they're adding water, buoyancy and therefore boats and submarines. Aerodynamic physics feels the next logical step alongside this for ultimate planets!
Also, the fact that aircraft are listed in the Workshop here gives me more hope for wing pieces that generate lift at least, even if full aerodynamics doesn't exist (so like, there's not much difference between a plane shape vs a cube, I'm okay with that because wing pieces still allow for a different type of flying).
I doubt they'll talk about this at all until we get closer to Planets being added though. So for now we can only hope! And tbh if they don't add it, it'll be modded in for certain.

They were saying something about that when testing if UE5 would work (it had aero but a lot of phantom forces)

Planes looks like an interesting category, aerodynamic physics anyone?

Could be possible. Havok engine supports it.

They even showed airplanes in the physics demo posted a year ago.

Aircraft? are we going to have aerodynamics on planets by chance??? Possibly?!?!?

If submarines and boats are possible, things like canals and canal locks should be possible. They'll doubtlessly become a thing in certain situations. It does make me wonder if gas compressibility under pressure will be a thing.

Some of the early water physics was shown with water leaking out of a dam at different velocities, therefore showing that holes further down the dam are under higher pressure. I do wonder if water can be forced into a saturated space to create high pressures.
