      Also if you want to guide your hole cutting saw you can make a jig by drilling a hole with it into a piece of scrap then clamp that where you want the hole and then the hole in the scrap will guide your hole saw.

      34:40 the wierd little flat screws in the middle of the hinge are actually for adjusting the angle of the door as you mentioned. If you try to screw all the way in one of them and all the way out the other it will be very visible what it does so you can see how to fit the angle of the door not to be slanted

    I'm so sorry that you feel so much pressure from us, your online friends. That can't feel very nice for you. I am 53 & live in the UK & have been alone for 8 years & there's only me to do all the DIY. I'd like you to know that you're an inspiration to me because you show the reality of creating & building things, including your mistakes & struggles. It's helped me so much to try & get out of my own head & not be so hard on myself & think & say awful things to myself. You've made me realise its ok to have to do things a few times to get things right, it's ok to feel overwhelmed & its ok to rest & take a few days off if needed.
    You are a beautiful person inside & outside. In that green dress with your gorgeous hair down, you looked like a renaissance painting Rosie.
    So thank you for continuing to make these videos when you really would rather not make them. I appreciate you very, very much.

    Okay, so I had to pause the video so I could laugh at ' I've spent the morning looking at hinges and basically, I've lost the will to live 😐' and not miss anything 😂
    ps. pro tip: In a tight space, hammer in and then pull out a small nail, in place of predrilling. Then screw by hand with short handled screwdriver. (Not that you are not doing an amazing job). Also, that elongated slot in the centre of the hinge is where the adjustment comes in. You can loosen the screw, shift the hinge back and forth and thereby alter the position of the hinge in relation to the cupboard then retighten the screw, theoretically. ☺

    I am a carpenter / joiner wih many years experiance. The work you have done is amazing, using limited tool selection and your overall experiance. I loved your idea of using the dowls to help prevent bowing of the shelf. Another would be to sub-divide each shelf using timber supports; you could stager these to make a unique layout. Also love the raw edge plank with bark that really breaks up the look of your unit, and don't wory about what your going to put in the cupboard thrust me you will fill them over time :D.
    As for your well-being, don't stress about big intricate videos out thats just added pressure. Just take a walk do a short video no talking just listing to nature and rest you mind and enjoy the tranquility of your suroundings.
    Enjoy the process of the projects you do, it's not just about the end goal; it also after the projects are complete and you reflect upon it and think to your self; I did that and I remember doing.... you get the the point. Well done kep up the great work.

    Take care, go for a walk, sleep, enjoy your life, and please, stop pressuring yourselves bc of us. We love watching you, but your life belongs to you, and (I guess) we all understand it.
    Take your time; we are adults. We understand you are not a Harry Potter with a miracle wand, and pushing yourself faster than is comfortable is not a point.

    The hole saw drill bit you are using should have a regular twist bit which goes in the middle. It should be set to contact the wood before the circular part and will keep it from skipping around. For this application you would want to be mindful not to drill to far and blow out the front of your cabinet door. Great work using the tools you have!

    • @timobreumelhof88
      @timobreumelhof88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, there's a part missing. But the cheap ones are not very stable TBH, even with the center drill. And as @logiclovaert suggest, drill from one side until the center drill goed through and then drill from the other side (which is where the missing center drill comes in handy)

    • @timobreumelhof88
      @timobreumelhof88 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Without the centering drill, you can also drill a hole in a board first and use that as a template that you clamp in the places where you want to drill a hole.

    Your skills have improved so much. If you’re going to do similar hinges. Grab your left over wood bits. Make a U that fits around the the big drill bit. Use nails and glue. Then position the U where you want to drill. Then clamp the U into place and drill. The U will prevent the drill from roaming about, like a Wild Rosie 😊

    Hello, it truly seems that you do not have a clue of how gifted and skilled you are for building on your own, from the idea to the design, the choice of materials and finally the final construction. I am flabbergasted to see you on every video making with your bare hands, all these structures, pieces of furniture, additions …. Way to go! Thank you.

    I'm SOOO thankful for you being so genuine and honest with us out 'here.' With you doing what you do, being imperfect on occasion, showing us how to redo and 'reset,' always moving forward. You are an inspiration to THIS 70+ year old woman! It is SO important that we offer ourselves grace in our lives. Dont ever feel like you must do or show everything perfectly. Personally, I sincerely appreciate the little imperfections or do-overs, as it takes pressure off of me trying to emulate your 'perfect' projects. Everything you do seems to come out so perfectly, it helps me know that the process getting there WASNT necessarily so perfect. You are such a wonderful young lady!! Thank you for being you, and sharing your beautiful journey!! 🥰

    Hi Rosie, as you were talking about stress, chimney, and the chimney man, i thought about you getting a wood burning stove, its kind of popular here in homesteads. All you have to do is build a concrete base, either an insulated metal backing, brick or tile mini wall to protect the floor and the wall behind the stove. You dont have to cook on it, unless you want to but the outcome is the same and you dont have to deal with a chimney or pay anyone to install it, just 2 or 3 men to lift up the woodburning stove to place it on the base and you will be set for winter. You will also have to make a hole on the wall to let the smoke out, just like a chimney but less complicated.

    When you slid that bottom shelving unit into place and it actually went in and fit, that was a eurekable moment for you! It was fun for us, too. I have lived with professional builders all my life (my father built our house from the ground up; he was a perfectionist) I will tell you that they fudge things all the time, especially when dealing with very old houses where the floors aren’t level and the walls aren’t plumb. As long as the finished product functions properly and is aesthetically pleasing, that is the important thing. Cabinets always have to be shimmed, even in new construction, because floors are never perfectly level. Your library is looking GOOD. 😊👍

    “I’ve spent the morning looking at hinges.” [Long pause with intense expressionless gaze] “And basically I’ve lost the will to live.” OMG Rosie is the best!
    Rosie maybe if you could post your ideas of how the stress manifested in your life and the different stages as it developed. This could help others realize the warning signs and take remedial action before it got to the point of hair loss. Who knows, it might help you too to look at your life objectively.

  • @cybetica
    @cybetica ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Hi Rosie, it's fantastic to see you building something the rest of us would barely attempt and doing it so well. With the hinges, the 'extra screws' you identified are the adjusting screws to adjust the position of the door relative to the hinge in three dimensions. Some, when loosed allow the door to slide up or down or left to right relative to the hinge within their elongated slot(s) and then fixed at any position when screwed tight at the desired position. The other two on top, allow for the door to move in and out of the plane of the door, as screwing in or out increases the door's distance from the hinge bracket. Hope that helps. 🙂

    For me, life has got in the way of watching your videos. Hence I am 2 months late in commenting. I don't want to embarrass you but you are such a kind and open person that watching your videos is such a joy. Seeing your design and carpentry as a man in my late 70's makes me full of admiration and envy! My maternal grandfather was a carpenter and joiner and I'm sure he would have said the same! Joy to you in your endeavours and thanks for the pleasure you bring to us as viewers. Very best regards and best wishes from the Isle of Man.
