Great reaction. 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite song and has been played live more than any of their songs. This is really a female empowerment song. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro (the traditional instruments in the video were just for show, they were not being played - the guys at the back were dancers too) and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in the video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are actresses and megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. This was filmed in 2013 - Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were not quite 14.
One thing about early Moa and Yui is they perform at a full on run for entire concerts. Honestly they run, jump and throw themselves about as only young kids can at that age. Luckily Moa has learnt how to conserve her energy since though she still gives 110% judging by the weekend concerts and her infamous IDZ high kick she can still manage.
_Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Thanks for coming back with one of BM fans favorite song. You should really watch a live versión now to see all the energy of these girls on stage, live at Budokan 2014 is a safe to react version, only thing is the crowd couldn't mosh there. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen" a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. I think you need to work with the pronunciation, so to say it right you can use a translator app, but it reads something like "meh- git - su - neh". Song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. Japanese friends told that "megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal (the lead singer) is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why you will hear her doing sound check with this song before live concerts. One of my favorite version is live at "Red Fox Festival 2017" with a room full of beautiful megitsune only, you can find that at Babymetal Reactor Resource. That's also the reason they performed this during latest live performance at Makuhari Messe 2023. The arranger of this song took some inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" when adding the heavy drums elements. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. "NotACult" 👀 Next suggestion: - _"Catch Me If You Can"_ live at Budokan 2014, GuilhermeCait channel got a safe to react version. Put your kitsune up and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥
This weekend (Saturday and Sunday 28th/29th January 2023) in Japan BABYMETAL had two concerts to start the launch of their new album. Song 6 on the set list was Megitsune and seeing 25yo Su perform this shows just how much her vocal and stage skills have progressed. They still perform the same routine as the MV (adjusted for the girls older ages as Moa has learnt to calm down when dancing now).
@@bonhzeppelin55 Avenger was Momoko. Also it appears on Fox Day concert they will announce a new 3rd permanent member (most in Japan believe it will be Momoko)
It always amazes me to see them doing that one foot sideways dance move on a stage that is moving under them, and making it look effortless. Everything about this band is amazing. I enjoy your enthusiastic reactions to them, and that you are clearly having a blast doing it.
One of my favorite parts of this song is during the break down when Su sings during the pig screams. You can hear deep in the layers, her singing off key on purpose. I think it sounds perfect. It isn't easy to hear, but once you hear it, you'll get what I mean. I've never heard anybody mention it before, so for a very long time I always wondered if I was imagining things when I heard it in the music video and album. As for Su's vocals, just wait until you hear her sing Shine. This song is one of the most challenging songs for her, and as Christian Conte mentioned, you can often hear her singing this when she is warming up her vocals. That being said, their newest song, Metal Kingdom, may change that as I think that might be a harder song for her to sing. Anyhow great reaction! Can't wait for you to do the trilogy of lights!
Megitsune is a fan favourite, as for live performances you have to check: Red Fox Festival ( all female audience ) Budokan 2021 ( the best vocals and instrumentals imo and the cutest crowd interaction by Moa ) Megitsune cover by Nemophila
And this is why "Megitsune" and this music video are masterpieces. Not to mention it's one of their most loved songs and the most played live: 244 times... and counting! Of course, one of my very top favorites and that breakdown is everything! Great reaction to a great song. If you watch carefully right after the breakdown when Yui and Moa are running down the corridor you can see Moa face planting. Apparently the floor was slippy. She laughed about it later and was completely unhurt.
Love you, Love Babymetal. Saw your shirt and....dude. I'm here in KC and just feel for ya. Great team and season, they'll be back and I'll still be subscribed. You are awesome.
I immediately loved Babymetal's concept from the first time I heard Gimme Chocolate. This song, made me realize that they are not only a fun band, that they are also quite talented and that SU has an amazing voice! :D
Hey bro, first time seeing one of your videos and I loved it, the genuine joy you showed while watching and listening to baby metal was infectious, keep it up dude!
Apparently Su does this song at most sound checks as she finds it one of the most challenging to sing and helps her find her best voice before performances. Now that you have done the guide, I think you will really enjoy Ijame, Dame, Zettai (The final song from their legendary Sonisphere UK performance). Nice reaction. You did the guide video which is great. But did you know Babymetal did several Babymetal reacts to Babymetal. After I watched it. I wished more bands would do it. Gives a lot of insight into them and what was going on in the video. One of those insights is when Yui and Moa are playing in the video. It's really them playing. The director just filmed them. Which goes to show they really were good friends. Warms the heart. Kawaii. Another inside information. When Su is combing her hair, the scene is taken from a Japanese horror movie. Maybe we get someone from Japan can let us know which one it is and what that movie was about. Could give even more insight to the song and video. The tanto mic Su used she apparently still has. In the reaction video she tells Yui and Moa, she will show it to them. an item that someday will be in a museum. Starting to feel that whoever writes Babymetal lore should go to work for Marvel. Their attention to detail is amazing. All the more reason to listen to Babymetal. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal multiverses of music.

I'm pretty sure "Catche Me if You Can" was the first Babymetal video I saw- it's hard to remember, since I dove into the Foxhole. I'd love to see them do this again- with Gene Simmons on stage as the Oni. I bet he'd love to do it, too!
You always get me to tears. Your reactions are so sincere, thank you! I can't wait for you to find out more. Except for Karate, from now on you can skip the music videos and watch only live performances. Road to the next stage!! 🤘🦊
I swear to the fucking Fox God, that heavy ass breakdown with the pig squeals is the sickest damn thing. And the vocals over that part uses the melody from a traditional Japanese folk song called "sakura" but with lyrics that go with the rest of the song, singing "kitsune", "fox", instead of "sakura", "cherry blossoms".
