Great reaction. The extra dancers were called SisterBones.
'4 No Uta' (or Song of 4) is great fun. There are several puns and plays on words that we just don't get and they are really what the song is about.
There are two counting systems in Japan - 4 is yon in one of them, it is shi in the other. Shi also means 'to die' or death and as a result 4 (shi) is considered unlucky and it is avoided. What they were doing (apart from giving us lessons in counting) was listing words that also contain 'shi' (eg Bitamin no shi - vitamin C) and saying they don't mean to die, so neither does 4 and it is just a silly superstition.
The choreo was also quite clever - apart from holding up 4 fingers they were making the figure 4 with their arms and with their legs at various points and in end poses etc. Also holding their fingers to their lips like we would to say "shhh" - in Japan shhh is ... "shi".
Full writing credits for '4 No Uta' (lyrics and music - not the arrangement) are given to Black BABYMETAL (Yui and Moa). They were challenged by Su to write a song about the number 4 while on the tour bus in Singapore when they were 12. They then drove the staff mad running round singing it non stop, so much so the staff complained about them. So of course Koba turned it into a song for Black BABYMETAL and it was on the first album.
Good Reaction! To show how hard the girls work, Yui fell off the stage during the concert, and Moa, who was upset, fell and sprained her leg. The next day, the stage was fenced off. The girls accomplished two days of live performances despite their injuries. It is now legendary.
And this was the night after them incidents and are still up for it and bouncing around 😁🤘🏼🦊
" four is for vitamin c"...only BLACK BABYMETAL could pull that one out the bag ...Bless them
Yon No Uta (Song of Four) is such a silly fun song that was made for live performance. People often listen to it and don't get it, because its not really a good 'album song', but when you see it performed live, it makes sense. The fact that it was written by Yui and Moa just makes it better.
They're saying "Yon, yon!" (Four, four!). The song is about the Japanese superstition about the number four. In Japanese, the character 四 can be read either as 'yon' or 'shi', but 'shi' is also the word for 'death' 死 , so the number four is considered bad luck. This song is about them saying that four isn't all bad. If Flugelhorn Old Man comes along, he can probably explain it all better that I can.
The girls in the skeleton costumes are Sisterbones.
Getting as close to the fans as possible is a huge part of Babymetal performances and is why they build these absurd moving stage rigs.

'Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse' is available on DVD or blu-ray at Amazon, etc.
It's a two disc set, with both of the March 2014 shows.
$15.48 on blu-ray, and a little more on DVD.
These were the first full BABYMETAL concerts I ever bought.
Still a big sentimental favorite of mine.
Yes, uta is Japanese for song.
4 (yon) no uta means song of four, or song about 4.
Babymetal really is a small miracle. Nobody expected this kind of success.
They are holding up 4 fingers on each hand over their heads, no thumb, that would be "5". They even do the legs crossed into "4s" at points. This is the only song credited to any of the girls on the first 3 albums. Written by Yuimetal and Moametal.
Kitsune dao!
It is said (and I think verifiably true) that the two of them put this song together on a bus ride. Just about the number '4' (yon), counting, and wordplay - basically Count Chocula on steroids. Japan is a blended culture, so they have multiple writing schemes and multiple counting schemes. An older way of saying four sounds as 'shi' which also means death, as others have mentioned, and considered unlucky. A more modern and not unlucky way to say '4' is 'yon'. Worth looking at du-metal blogs's translation and notes on this one. (If I post the link, this comment will be shadow ghosted.) When they form the "C" letter with their arms, they are doing the wordplay "Bitamin Shi" (vitamin-C) as they list a bunch of number four related things that are good for you. Yes, they are also incredibly athletic. When you get to the newer performances, you will see the Yui 'replacement' performers (Avengers) in the earlier days totally out of breath trying to keep up.
_Yon Yon!_
MoiMoi coming back with their own exclusive song and kawaii overload.
4 No Uta (or "Song 4") is another Black Babymetal song and is a challenge to our girls and giving another social reform message, this time trying to stop with the superstition around the number 4.
"4" got two ways of pronounce in Japanese, _shi_ is the right way, but that word is also similar to "die", that's why they use _yon,_ the other way, 4 or "shi" is associated with bad luck, similar to number 13 for some westerners. Our girls here are trying to teaching us in a funny song and choreo that the _shi_ isn't always related to bad things.
Always love that reggae breakdown reaction, unexpected, especially over that Metallica - Master Of Puppets riffs, so cool.
Oh btw this song got the credits over YuiMetal and MoaMetal, so this is the only song with them on the credits, the funny story is while traveling on the bus at live tour in Singapore, SuMetal challenge the girls to do a song with this theme, they were singing this all the time that even the stuff members got stuck with that in their head, the rest is story, is a super engaging song with great crowd participation and who don't wanna do that with our lovely girls back then?
This also got a MoaMetal solo version live at Legend S 2017, that was the sudden first live concert without YuiMetal.
Finally, you're very much welcome to celebrate unofficially Yon Yon Day (April 4) every year after official Fox Day (April 1). Yon Yon!
See you next time and kitsune up 🦊🤘🔥
Grington already explained to you the Shh (Shi) and the Yon.
This performance is great, because you can see how much fun the girls are having in here!
This was their 5th song out of 16! But right after this, it came 2 SU solos, so they had time to rest a few minutes!
YOu can notice at the end, before light turns on, that Moa is Breathing quite hard and catching her breath, but it's normal!
When they were younger, they were just unstoppable, could run all the time without getting tired! They jumped all around the stage!!
When they got older, they toned down a bit the choreography :D
They are saying "yon" that means 4 in japanese. Yui and Moa wrote this song themselves. 4 is considered a cursed number in japan cus the other way to pronounce it is "shi" that also means Death in japanese. The way we write it is different but the pronunciation is the same.
This song is one gigantic mockery/making fun of a superstition. The number 4 in japan is like 13 in the states because shi means 4 and death, so they use yon instead. Just like in the US, skipping floor 13 in a hi rise, they often skip floor 4, its like that.
Every lyric incorporates shi or yon in some kind of pun or wordplay. The choreo is full of fours. They cross their legs to make 4, bend their arms to make 4, 4 with their fingers, count to 4 up and down, even the sh sh sh part is them saying shi shi shi. The beats count to 4, its a massive pile of hilarity when its translated, especially when you realize the wordplay using words with shi in them that mean something positive.
The twins wrote this song on a tour bus on a dare from Su when they were 12 years old. Until divine attack a few months ago, its the only writing credit the girls have ever had.
Its a super silly fun song written by smart little kids making fun of superstition.
YON YON
Crowd participation is part of the trio that makes Babymetal great. You have the girls, the Kamiband and the Crowd. If you notice their song writing, there's always sections that the crowd can join in and sing a long and participate. And the cheerleaders in that participation are Yui and Moa, the crowd follows their movements and call and response. 🤘🦊🤘
Great fun song one of my favourite performances of it the screams of delight from them ❤️ yon yon ,4 4, four four 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Yon yon. Singing about the number 4 😂
Honestly bits like this is why I want for Moa to be able to sing more on the new album. I get Su is lead.
Great reaction, thanks!
I believe everyone told you already that they are saying "Yon Yon!" 🤣
This is basically a great piece of fan-service and it's extremely cool. And yes Yui and Moa are (were) a very important piece of BABYMETAL. Yui left long time ago and some fans are not still over it.
Absolutely yes about "Akatsuki". From this same concert: "Akatsuki" (Live at Budokan Black Night): th-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/w-d-xo.html
Until next time!

BBM MoiMoi YonYon !! !!
You did a very good choreography as well !! !!
what i just noticed is the finger pose they do looks like the "shhhh" body language...and that's very apt considering that the number 4 can be read as "shi" , and in japanese "shiiiiii-" is the same as "shhhh! be quiet!" in english. It's also working as "shhhh be quiet, do not mention the number 4, for it is unlucky." Excellent choreography that mimics the sound of the song, the lyrics and meaning of the song and acts as some kind of irony, singing about the number while also shushing people to refrain from saying the number. Very awesome.
Song 4 and BabyMetal Death are both songs related to Japanese ears. 🦊
Japanese ears think it is death when they hear 4, but they don't think it is death when they hear death.😎😄😂

Super cute song and performance by the most Dynamic Duo ever. Sometimes I wish they would never grown any older. 🤘🦊🤘
These lyrics are just a pure genius..greetings from Japan.

Two happy little girls singing a super-heavy metal number with lyrics that could be right out of Sesame Street. Only in Japan.
You have no idea how many times I yelled "Four" at you in my monitor! :D
They are saying 'Four! Four!'
I wonder, does it mess with a kids head to know that the entire world...loves you?
yeah that’s how I think of it too… I like watching the, perform it, but usually I skip it when listening to the album.edit: please watch Ijime, dame, zettai from sonisphere 2014 before you move on from the first album. It’s the closing song from (probably ) their most most important performance.
You've been doing mostly the heavy side of Babymetal I think its about time you slowed it down and check out Babymetal ballads...Akatsuki Unfinished and No Rain No Rainbow from Legend S XX are two of Su's solos that not just tug at the heart strings, it yanks them while cutting onions. pay particular attention to Su's expressions while singing. 🤘🦊🤘
But something DID go wrong! You may want to view the video again because poor Yui has a wardrobe malfunction: at approximately the 1:30 mark of the video, you'll notice that her left boot-strap had come undone. Then, at around the 1:58 mark (when her and Moa are supposed to be taking a series of bows), she takes that opportunity to secure the boot-strap without missing a beat. Now that quick thinking on her part and the mark of true professional! But it was only a temporary fix because right at the end of the video, you can see it had come undone again. 😢

Yon Yon mean Four Four. Yon = 4 in Japanese. This song about "4" which mean "bad number" in japanese culture. Like "666" for us.
I would have thought more like 13.
@@johnschultz7765 yes. agree. its like 13.
😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘
they were saying"yon yon", which is number 4. THen there are lots of wordplays.
There are still two other songs from the first album that I don't think you've done yet; Ijime, Dame, Zettai and Uki Uki Midnight. I recommend this version of Ijime th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
Dude! Check your IG messages! I sent you info a while back about hooking you up with full concerts!
