    I just recently noticed you are back!! I am so glad you are settled in your new home and are back to making videos. My precious sister went to be with Jesus in March. I miss her terribly. She was my best friend and we would spend hours on the phone talking as we sat in our sewing rooms 600 miles apart. So now, I have your videos on and it’s like having a friend just sitting and chatting while I sew. No one can replace my sister, but you are a Sister in Christ and I love hearing and seeing what you are doing and that you share your faith at the end. This world is so crazy right now and Jesus is where we put our hope. Thank you, Bonnie, for just being you and sharing your hear. Welcome back! You have been missed! Blessings!!

    Bonnie, your quilts are gorgeous! I showed my husband your quilts and he was blown away how beautiful they are. I have a questions, since you’re the quilt master 😂 what is the difference between the Valdani perle cotton and the Wonderfil perle cotton, besides the price? Girl I so which you were my neighbor but at least we are blessed to have you on flosstube again. Thank you so much for coming back I have so much to learn for you. Love you girl another great video.

    • @logcabinstitcher7274
      @logcabinstitcher7274  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Carmen!!! Yes, wish we were neighbors as well! Wouldn’t that be a kick! How sweet to show your husband my quilts…maybe inspiration to have him encourage you to get some more fabric and have quiet stitching time?? I had never heard about Wonderfil pearl cotton until you asked and now I’m seeing it everywhere! Yeah, the price is definitely lower. I just searched for a video comparison and saw a good one from Becky Goldsmith called Pearl Cottons are not all the same. Now, she didn’t compare Valdani, but she did validate that Wonderfil is good and she said it’s very soft. I would recommend getting a Valdani and a Wonderfil and giving them both a try yourself to compare. You definitely want a strong thread, so the quilting lasts (I’m sure you’ve heard me talk in past videos about needing to redo several of Mom’s quilts. But, if you do the modified big stitch like I do, the stitches are smaller and therefore stronger. I’ll bring that up in the next quilting video. Love you, girl!

      Dona, so glad you enjoyed your visit with me! I have found that my ‘modified’ Big Stitch holds up better than the ‘typical’ Big Stitch that my Mom did. I have had to redo some of her quilts because both machine and hand big stitch didn’t hold up over time. When I do the smaller version, it is stronger. I’ll share more about that on the next video and show one of her beautiful king size quilts that I still need to restitch.

    So enjoyed this video and the time and effort it takes you to do one. I had no idea you’ve made sooooooo many quilts and hand quilted them. I love how soft and pliable the hand quilted ones are. I do have a question…. I know when using quilting thread I bury my knot between the fabric and batting when starting and ending. Are you able to do that using Vadoni thread since it’s so thick ? I just can’t imagine that. Really enjoy your videos and already looking forward to the next one. You are looking so happy and I’m so happy for this leg of your life. Sometimes I’m just happy to get a know in the middle and not going through to the front (I’ve done that multiple times) if I have any doubts on the security of the knot,I pop a second one in there.

    Beautiful quilts, love your hand quilting. I have a question about hanging the quilts, do you cover them with something like a garment bag? I’ve had clothes that have hung in a closet for years and they get dirty on the top and sometimes discolored. Would that happen to the quilts? Maybe get some cheaper pillowcases, cut a small hole for the hanger and clip that over the quilts? Just an idea.

      Hi Becky! I haven’t covered my quilts and they can get dusty. I usually have them folded in plastic boxes under the bed or on shelves away from direct sunlight. Even across a large room, the sun could cause damage, so I get them out, give them a good shake outside if necessary and refold them a different way or put them out and use them. So far so good.

I have been quilting for 50 years and am now making wall hangings to use up some of my remaining fabrics. I have one comment about storing quilts in an attic. Unless your attic will be climate controlled, I do not recommend it. Also, any tiny slit or hole in the attic can allow furry little friends to visit which can cause damage to your quilts, especially when they find batting inside them. Just my thoughts. I get a lot of my used books and magazines from Ebay. I chose the option Free Shipping and I have never had any problems. Do you wash your quilts? If so, do they hold up pretty well when doing big stitch? What batting is best for hand stitching?

    • @logcabinstitcher7274
      @logcabinstitcher7274  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Donna, I don’t wash my quilts very often, it when I do I use a very mild laundry soap and put in 3 or 4 Color Catchers to catch any fabric dye bleeding and wash on gentle cycle. I often lie them flat on my rug to dry. With the Big Stitch, my modified length of stitch helps it become stronger and it holds up fine, rather than a longer stitch that can snap. I’ll talk about that in the next video. I used to use Warm and Natural cotton batting, which is a good quality, but thicker than I want now. I alternate now and use Quilters Dream batting in the Request cotton thickness.

    Your hand quilting - do you stitch only through the top layer and the batting? Stitching thru all 3 layers would be too hard on the hands, right?

    • @logcabinstitcher7274

      I do stitch through all three layers. I guess the trick is finding the needle that makes you feel comfortable with the thickness of the pearl cotton thread but allows you to get 3 to 4 stitches loaded on the needle. The pack of size 5/10 embroidery needle from Piecemakers is the best. If you start with a small quilt project with the thinner cotton batting and regular cotton fabric (not batik) it would be a good way to try it out.
