When the stuff with Valkyrae happened, it sounded like she got out of the deal before people were actually buying the products and I’m not sure if any of the products were sold, so I don’t think the situation was as bad as it could’ve been. It just seemed like she got bad info and was able to shut it down before any real financial mess occurred.
They were sold, she got out only after the backlash started. It did start veeeery quickly, which made her realize she got lied to by the company producing the products. Part of it is her fault for not doing her own research, but it was obvious it was not her intention to scam people deliberately. The blame is on the company using her to make money & then throwing her under the bus. Not the first time this happens, unfortunately. With influencers mentioned here, however? I'm sure Tana & others know what they are doing.

@@ms.marvelous8156 their products were available for around 2 weeks (online and in Ulta) and initially Rae was defending the product, saying that the company did their own research on blue light that she 'saw with her own eyes'. She thought they would make it a public knowledge when the RFLCT web lauches, however this did not happen. The company claimed they don't want to publish their research 'so it doesn't get stolen'. After this point she started realizing she was manipulated & lied to and terminated the brand. P.S. This is, of course, my own interpretation of what happened, as I believe that Rae did not intend to scam her audience, which to me was proven by her apology & how quickly the brand has been taken down (I'm sure at her own expense). I'm not sure that people who purchased the product were refunded.
If you're still buying from these scammers, you deserve to lose whatever money you give to them.

the blurred line is that the age demographic of people who worship these content creators are between 8-14 years old. they look up to these content creators and dont really comprehend that they're influencers or what influencers are paid to do. its hard for someone at that age in that awkward phase to see that they're being scammed. they're parents sure as hell arent gonna be doing research on the products or who's selling them. at the end of the day, these influencers are preying on literal children at their most vulnerable state and making them throw money at influencers. not illegal, but extremely unethical.

my theory is that once Valkyrae pulled out of their deal, the company didn't want to lose their investment, so they found a more gullible and/or less scrupulous influencer..

Using a blue screen filter on devices and/or blue light filtering glasses does help.

So, regarding the „Blue light“ phenomenon: my father was once one of the CEOs of one of the biggest optics companies worldwide and everything about damaging blue light is a scheme to get the customers to spend more money. There is literally a team of marketing experts that come up with these ideas and present them to increase sales. Seriously. This is something fabricated. Don’t spend your well earned money on gimmicks.

Im not a fan of either so I did some research into both. Just to start blue light occurs naturally from the sun as well and research does show that too much can damage your skin (think sunburn) although how much damage is caused by blue light emitted from electronics is still debatable. So both products are basically weak sunscreens.
Valkyrae looks like she was almost scammed into representing a questionable product with only BLPF (not a real ingredient??) and rice water, which rice water has some natural sun protecting properties but overall it does nothing. Its just water in a bottle.
Now im not sure if a different company learned from the previous mess but Addison's product does actually contain ingredients like Ashwagandha Root (used alot in Africa and Asian products), Niacinamide and Dandelion Extract, all ingredients that are used regularly in other skincare products. Its essentially a glorified weak sunscreen for indoors and the claims about blue light protection are kinda sketch. What is probably saving her is that her claims about blue light arent as ambitious as Valkyrae's and the product does have a moisturizing effect vs no effect.

The blue light skincare again… Valkyrae actually did a really nice explanation and break down of how she was misguided and taking accountability for not doing enough research outside of what she was being told. imo it seems she was more exploited on the business side of things cause she did seem to really want to bring a product to her niche she could back less than she wanted to profit.

I’m an aesthetician and we use blue light as a skin treatment, it’s good for killing bacteria without harming the skin so we use it for clients with acne. You can get blue led treatments at dermatologist, med spas or buy at home devices. You wouldn’t want to “protect” your skin from blue light 🙃

Brittney really made me angry. For her to make millions off of scamming people on fitness and nutrition advice was inexcusable. Im almost finished with my bio degree and have friends who work hours and hours to get their degree to be a personal fitness and nutritionist, but someone like her with a platform can misguide people and cause damage. The only fitness TH-cam I trust now is Michelle McDaniel because helping and educating people on their health journey is actually something she cares about.

I feel like when influencers say "I've worked really hard to bring you this product" it should be a red flag lol. Probably most of the time, all they do is pick a design from a company then let the company do the rest. The company would pay the influencer to slap their name on the product and jack up the price. you can get screen protectors that protect against blue and purple light already. getting a makeup product (that would cost a bunch to keep replenishing) for something you can get for 20 bucks (one time purchase per device) at best buy or target is a waste. if you want to give money to the creators, just donate or something. these products are made to burn holes into your wallet

blue light product(s) are such a niche concept for skincare. I see where they're coming from in a sense but there aren't many studies on it harming the skin from a screen- maybe they need to do more research and put in more time if they really care (which it doesn't seem like it at this point) . otherwise there are other things more important to focus on pertaining to skincare products.

She shifted into being a Christian influencer and is putting on 2-day "Christian" conferences that are super expensive (and would be even if they were comparable to other Christian conferences in what they actually deliver).
Then there's the animal mistreatment and the fact that her new husband is a former cop who was sued by the ACLU for excessive use of force against a black man. And the money they "raised" for a guy they helped send to a drug treatment program (for after he got clean) that they haven't turned over yet and won't talk about what happened to the money.
