    This was a magnificent 2-part video. I always wanted to cross an ocean on a modern container ship as a guest. I'm now way too old to ever do it. But you have allowed me to vicariously live my fantasy adventure.

    Moin Moin von einem ehemaligen Nordlicht! Until July 2018 I lived in Halifax, awesome to see the city from a sailor's view. As a truck driver I often carried ACL (and other lines') container out of the terminal and across the MacKay Bridge (the second in the video).

    I enjoyed that one, great series. Regarding practice launches of that type of Life Boat, that's the easy part, getting them back on the gantry can be a challenge :-)

    looks like you had a good Atlantic crossing, by pure coincidence I sailed out of Liverpool to Iceland only a few days later, Fascinated to know how they can keep track of each container, i.e. where it is going from/to and what is inside, so they can be loaded/unloaded in order and tracked

    Originally from 1948’ to 1985’ weather ships surveyed the Atlantic collecting weather data , and if rescue was required , now Buoys and cargo vessels do the same, interesting journey 👌🏻

    My my, how my former home town of Halifax has grown up and modern looking. I bet the water is clean enough in the harbor to swim in even. I hope to move back when I retire as I can't stand the dead smell of the prairies. There is no better smell to wake up to than salty air.

    Halifax, NS, Canada, is a city. It may not be as big as some, but to us, it's a big city. lol I'm Canadian, and have been in Halifax and Dartmouth (sister city to Halifax on other side of river). I live about a 4 hr. drive away from there in New Brunswick.

    I worked at Shell Oil in Martinez Calif in 1990 on the Wharf..We we're putting in a Vapor Recovery System for the Ships...I'm a Retired UA 342 Welder....When the Ships came in we had to Stop Welding...The Guys on the Ships got off and just wanted to know where the closest Bar was...The Ships were from Different Countries and most of the Guys couldn't or barely spoke English... We got the Guys a Taxi and we'd tell the Driver to take them to the nearest Bar....Some of the Guys Stayed behind and Painted thier Country Flag on the Pier...Some of the Guys were Puking the next Day as they were trying to ask us where they could go...Sight seeing...At the gas stations the pumps had two hoses back then and that was to recover the vapors coming off the Gas...So you can imagine the size on the Pipe they needed to get the Vapor from a Ship...I think we ran a 12",8", and a 4" line out to the Ship....

      I am merchant mariner since 1997 and I have beem working as officer on cargovessels since 2001, and now as master, I have never used a uniform :) it is mostly on cruise ships they use uniforms.. I have only had to use uniform in some shipyard seremony and stuff like that. It is much more comfortable to use your normal clothes and regular working clothes when on deck off course..

    This is very interesting for a ship nerd like me, thank you so much for sharing.
    But please, I beg you: turn the music volume down. I can barely hear the people talk so I turn up the volume and then boooom VERY LOUD MUSIC. It's terrible.
    But apart from that I appreciate this series:-)

      This is worse than episode 1, I can't hear shit. Such a shame, this could've been great, but it sucks. Fucking music. And one of the tracks are overused on YT if you watch yacht reviews you know what I mean. Grrrrrrr

      @@AgentRafa , reason you hear it so much is that it is music that lives under the free domain and does not require obtaining any rights from the rightsholder. There is plenty of music available but it comes at a price. For hobby channels like these, enjoy what they are offering and the fact that copyrights are respected.

    I hope you read this comment. I see the Atlantic Sky is also a Ro-Ro ship. Is it possible to book a passage from Antwerp to Halifax and also taking an RV with you? And for the return voyage in a few months from New York to Antwerp?

    I think in case of emergency you are doomed! How will you find your way to the "Life Boat" when you're all excited? Besides, the drop to the water may make you think twice: is this really necessary?

      Yes, also the safest possible way, also note it's from the stern and not from the side, and that you might work out yourself.

      Yes, the Titanic was only a small ship compared to the behemoths of today.

      @@darklord1134 This is a small Containership.....by modern containership standards.
      But it is also very specialist in that in can carry Cars, Lorries, buses...even yachts in her holds.
      Most container ships cannot enter Liverpool docks: (Seaforth) the locks are very small by modern standards.
      Compare this with the "MV Ever Given" which got stuck in the Suez Canal back in March. (2022)
      It's about a third of the size.
      When container ships became "popular" they built Seaforth in Liverpool with no foresight whatsoever.
      It can only handle what are known as "shuttle container ships".
      Felixstowe in Suffolk is the UK's biggest container port..... and every container has to travel by lorry to all corners of the UK.... What a complete mess. Massive congestion. Pollution and misery.
      A modern, full sized container port is needed in the North of the country..... Where is the "levelling up"?
      Yup...Our Government is totally inept. Don't expect any change soon.

    I really don't understand the economics of a CONRO vessel. Aside from the additional construction Capex, would be much more efficient to just loan and unload containers from a typical box carrier. Ultra Large Container Ships seem to be the economical way to move containers.

      Not all vessels launch balloons. The weather messages are normally being prepared by handomatic means and your eyes. The only nformation gathered is vital importance to create a proper idea of the climate and changes. Shore/landbased meteo stations are launching balloons everyday and may-be upto 4 a day. Its not for fun but to provide us with a weather forcast thats reliable for more than a few hours ahead.

      John McGarva No , I do not walk around at home wearing a hard hat, but I have been working at sea 48 years, and according to safety standards,it is mandatory to wear hard hat when on deck.

    There is over 50.000 ships sailing the world today, and if 4/5 of them launches weather balloons every day, no wonder we're fucked. I could build my coffin out of latex myself if i walked down to the beach.

    That ship is quite new ( 2017 ) but it’s seems to pump out a hell of a lot of pollution into the atmosphere , every time your camera was pointed at the funnel lots of pollution coming out of it , and just to think there are thousand’s of these huge ships at sea at any one time , just a thought I suppose jet aircraft are just as bad and there are thousands of then in the sky at any one time , no wonder we are all heading south 👎🏿

      similar to a high efficiency Furnace or water heater in any home now days..
      it should be that difficult... I think..

      Most of what you see coming out the stack isn't that harmful. The stuff that the human eye can't detect, like nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, (and to a lesser degree, dioxide), oxides of sulfur is the stuff we don't need, and believe it or not, modern engines are putting out MUCH less of the bad stuff than in decades past. The visible components include soot, or the new buzzword, "particulate", and water vapor (caused by the hot exhaust condensing against cooler surfaces on its way up the stack).

      Salt bush Bill Ships are a major source of pollution, but the actual amount per ton of cargo carried is surprisingly small. The ships carry such vast quantities they are actually the most efficient way to transport goods. To fly the same amount of charge the same distance would require hundreds of plane loads and many, many times the fuel.
