I’m so glad we’re having more of these conversations around the normalisation and romanticising of inappropriate age gaps, and not just with older men and young women. You don’t see the reverse very often but it’s still definitely something that should be discussed and I’m glad that you did cuz I still see way too many people out here being foolish about it. Even if both parties are adults and no one is preyed upon, there’s still no guarantee that this relationship will work, be healthy or have equal power dynamics and room for growth. These are all things that are very important.
@@Contrarian-v7pI’ve yet to think of one time where it’s been seen as worse if the woman is older. Also, on a very serious note…if it helps at all, 30’s, 40’s and even 50’s are seen more and more as “being in your prime” these days. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re out of time or you need to rush.
I watched a Love Jones and the bs ending where basically she’s doing all the apologizing and pouring her heart out. While he was the one who stepped out randomly. I often don’t see these older romance movies like this as romantic. Cool vibes but the men usually are… written … like trash but angels
I was in my late 20's when I saw this movie in the theater, and I didn't like the ending. I loved the cast and watching Taye's fine self on the big screen, but I just didn't (and still don't) buy Stella and Winston as happily ever after. Their age difference was just too big; heck in my late 20's I wasn't keen on dating 20-year-old dudes! I think Stella and Winston should have had a little fling thing that they could rekindle for a few trips and then call it quits.

Did you really have to include the sirens? 😂😂😂 As a 24 year old I would have EASILY folded if a 40 year old looked like that. I like older women and it's not like I want kids.
Im currently 40 and this is ridiculous! I can’t imagine identifying with a 24 year old. I have a child, a 44 year old husband and there’s absolutely nothing a young man could do for me except lay some pipe and go home.
Should've kept it at that, should've been just a nice fling where he pipes her down just right. But nothing serious... The whole idea of her being in a serious relationship with him was desperate as hell
Ya know, now that I’m looking at this review, I’m realizing how Stella and Terry from Soul Food are alike. Siblings disrespecting their boundaries, somebody always with their hands out. At least Stella nipped stuff in the bud without being passive aggressive like Terry.
I think why this movie was so popular back in the day was because it was seen like a fantasy for older/middle aged women, being desired by a younger man. Pretty much the same mid-life crisis stunt older/middle aged men pull in getting with younger women (or in some cases, girls) just to feel young and desirable again (it’s an ego boost and dopamine hit). I also believe it was praised (at the time) because it was a role reversal of what most older men do, have older women feel validated in being able to do the same.
Terry McMillan was delusional and desperate, and wrote Stella in a similar fashion. Age gap relationships are often Opportunistic & Predatory… But middle-aged women thought it was giving 🥴

The welcome to Jamaica ladies will always remind me of the time I spent in the Bahamas, those men were constantly asking us “ do you need a bodyguard “ 😂😂
I remember the first time I saw this movie, back in '98 on VHS. I thought it was sooo long and drawn out 😂. Never really cared much for the movie, but I loved the supporting cast, especially Regina King.
Fun fact, Suzanne Douglas was the sister of my basketball coach in high school. She came to visit one day and my coach told Suzanne all of my business, being late, bad grades, bruh...😂🤦🏿♀️!
Also, also...I how you acknowledge when these characters hair and outfits be on point ❤!
Yet... I'm already considered old and past my prime at 26 to men. Funny how there's a bigger deal when the woman is older.
@@Contrarian-v7plol no man considers a 26yr old past her prime love.
I hate that whoopi Goldberges character died 😢 She was the best part of the movie for me 😊
I watched a Love Jones and the bs ending where basically she’s doing all the apologizing and pouring her heart out.
Suzzanne and Angela always looked like they could be sisters
Suzanne Douglass was absolutely stunning. Those cheekbones. May she RIP😢
He went to Blockbuster for Booty Call and Lion King 😂 that's something I'd do
❤
This movie actually helped me out a bit with my last relationship because a number of years back, I was dating this woman who was older than me and I didn't know what to expect so i watched this & i found it entertainingn Angela Bassett is Great always. However, i like Taye Diggs but that Jamaica accent they had him doing........ ehhhhh 🥴🙉
Girl you should do the best man and the brothers I’m definitely interested on knowing yo final thoughts on them because girl yo final be hitting every point LOVE IT ❤️
She said she couldn't do cause of some Peacock bullshit
Yep. It's under NBC Universal and they love to block content. They are very strict. @@Knight622ny
Oh lawd that's messed up even for the brothers ahhh man 😢
Before February is over boomerang needs a review
STRANGE DAYS starring Angela Bassett NEEDS be talked about! Underrated AF. female led, female directed Y2K cyber punk classic
Please do Something New. You always give marvelous recaps
The Inkwell. I haven't seen that movie in years. I can't wait to see your review.
The inkwell was an awesome movie
@@theorderofthebees7308 Yes and funny.
It was a really dope review
His "Jamaican" accent just sends me every time
When the "Knockin da boots" drop. Gets me every time 😂
The Jamaican accent from Taye was horrendous
Glad to see i guessed correctly! When you said it turned to real life, i just remember the Oprah episode gurl.
That Oprah episode is classic
I hate that ppl were calling Terry bitter! She has every right to be upset about what happened to her.
Listen … Ms. Angela was absolutely stunning in this movie! I don’t remember the whole movie but I do wish Winston was a bit older though.
The actors Taye and Angela were 12 years apart not 20 lol
You don’t have to make a relationship out of everything. Just have some fun and go
Did you really have to include the sirens? 😂😂😂 As a 24 year old I would have EASILY folded if a 40 year old looked like that. I like older women and it's not like I want kids.
I thought all men want the youngest women possible.
The whole idea of her being in a serious relationship with him was desperate as hell
i just subscribed and i am IN LOVEEEE with your channel!! so excited to see this one!! waiting patiently for the premiere 🤭💖💖💖
Thank you ☺
I can’t wait until you reach 100k subscribers!! Can you do collateral with Jamie foxx at some point?
The best part of my Sundays! ❤
Unpopular opinion: I think Whoopi is so pretty and her skin in 2024 is still flawless 🥰
She's gorgeous! I dont know why people are negative about her looks.
Because dark skin blacks were ridiculed and considered to be the ugliest of all brown people in the 90s.😢@@forthenostalgia
She is beautiful
I'v never understood why people made negative remarks about Whoopi's looks. I've always though she was a beautiful woman.
What's crazy about cradle robbing Terri and how she got her groove back is that everyone else knew babyboy was Sashay Shante but not her. 🥴💀
I love Angela and Regina in every single role. They are incredible.
Terry McMillan was delusional and desperate, and wrote Stella in a similar fashion. Age gap relationships are often Opportunistic & Predatory… But middle-aged women thought it was giving 🥴
Yeah... She was desperate
🤣🤣🤣
Girl! Every tine you play that H-Town drop😂😂😂
I'm guessing but is your next recap The Inkwell!!
OHHHHHHH N LOVED your recap!!!!!
Always thought this movie was weird bc of the age gap .....but Taye n Angela with his smile n her everything was great to look at lol
I watched this for the first time maybe a year ago I'm in my 30s now and I'm glad I watched with adult eyes cause what no ma'am
Right! It hits so differently watching this in my 30's!
Next video: The Inkwell starring Larenz Tate, Jada Pinkett (pre-Smith), also Suzzanne Douglas (RIP), and Joe Morton
Quincy is the dream son every mother would love to have. ❤ 🥰
I agree with your final thoughts. My mom told me about this movie and the first thing I pointed out was the questionable age gap. Someone who is 40 and someone who is 20 are at two different points of living. I'm in my early 20s and i definitely haven't experienced all that life has to offer. The age gap is definitely weird.
Exactly but people think that because they’re grown that it’s not weird.
Uh, I married a man who is 17 years younger than I. We celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary next month. Our 4 children will be present at our reception.
Yeah…umm that’s crazy.
Terry, baby how did you not know? He was giving. Like the little snippet played and I thought "why yall getting excited he's not looking for you" And then you went and told me who he was! Oooh chile.
We all old school heads know this real life story ends 😮
You’ve done soooo many of my favorites as I am a Black 90s/cult classic film head. To see you do Sprung solidified you as one of my favorites because so many people haven’t seen that film and I loved it as a kid lmao. Imma throw in The Wood in as it’s one of my all time faves!
Honorable mention: New Jack City and House Party.
i loved this film back in the day, so sad the real ending for the author was the opposite of the film.
The shoulder dance always reminds me of Tina Turner 😂❤What's Love Gotta Do With It
Whoopi and Regina were EVERYTHING in this movie. Delilah was definitely my favorite character. I remember reading the book before there was a movie and Delilah was already passed away when Stella went to Jamaica. So it was really cool to see their dynamic and friendship in the movie. 💯✨😌👌🏾
Since you have us a clue by mentioning it being in Suzanne's contract, it's only right that you do The Inkwell girl!!! Can't wait! 💚
Not Taye diggs being in a movie with the real Richard Lawson😂😂Also, the woman that played Winston mom was Angela Bassett sister in “What’s love got to do with it”
I’ve never seen this movie but this was a lot.
As soon as I saw the doll and the red bike I immediately knew it was the Inkwell, omg one of my favs 😍. I loveee your videos!
