A very useful little hammer for seating parts in the vise and general tapping. Brings to mind a couple of old groaners. “Don’t force it, use a bigger hammer!” and “Get the hammer honey, there’s a fly on the baby’s head!” That last one may have been the title of an old country song. I hope you’re feeling better every day.

I grew up using a similar small brass hammer my dad had, very useful for model building, tapping out tin or brass sheet, and small pin insertion. Years later, after he passed away, I found many of his tools had been raided, stolen by the rotten sister's drug addict buddies for pawn. That was one tool I really wanted to keep... sadly long gone.

I have not had difficulty knurling, but hex brass was what I used in metal shop to make a new shift handle for my first Datsun pickup, the factory shift lever had a hole that connected it to the linkage, and it had hogged out. Working brass, I heated it and made an S bend in it, was a nice school project.

Thanks, Needed a big one & brass was too expensive, so first it was Lead & found out it was way too soft & mushroomed all over the place almost by looking at it. Zinc worked real well, some kinda printing plates from the scrap yard.
Glad you're still kicking, keep on.

I remember when an apprentice made a mallet and put a round cylindrical hole through the centre . A hydraulics fitter used it and the head flew off and hit another fitter . Thus it was discovered that the hole through the middle has a double taper in it for a reason . Oh by the way the fitter was not injured but did swear a bit .

I made one, using a small block off of some long ago scrapped machine, and a steel rod from it, that had a convenient step in it that fitted the central hole in the block. Slipped in, then riveted the steel rod over on the top, and had a small tool with a chromes steel handle, that was perfect for light use, small enough to fit in tight spots, but still a 50g head to tap with.

also very nice to have a handle when using it as a driver. I melted down some pistons for an aluminum hammer, with a claw hammer handle. used a tin can for a mold.A brass hammer can do some damage, aluminum not so much, I like it better than the plastic deadblow.

That's a sweet little hammer, really glad you dug it out of the scrap bin, Tubalcain. Even better you made a project video about it, really like those brass chips as you were machining the hammer head. Red metals are just great, copper, brass, bronze, really like to see you working with those metals. Have you ever tried to cast any red metals? I definitely enjoy the many videos of you casting lead and aluminum as well.

      Thank you for watching.
Yes, I poured brass and bronze in the school foundry hundreds of times over the years.
In addition to that, I helped my brother, many many times, pouring bronze into his lost wax sculpture molds

    • @lathammarx1458

I figured you have Tubalcain, just never seen any videos of you casting red metals. Did you help your brother with the fawn sculpture? You have showed that sculpture in numerous videos it is definitely a work of art. Casting bronze in the lost wax technique is a connection to ancient mankind that fascinates me.

If people don’t like to watch your videos less than ten minutes, tell them not to let the door hit them in the backside.
I personally like to watch longer in depth videos. It is a pain to flip around every ten minutes trying to find something of interest.
