  • With the striper migration long gone from New England, the On The Water crew heads south to catch the last leg of the fall run as it passes through New Jersey.
Thank you Capt Hunter Gutwein and Capt Tom “Z” Zambetoglu for accommodating us.

Wow just seeing this out of the box th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Hey man what did y’all used to troll with for rockfish if you didn’t troll them before the last couple years? Down here in the Chesapeake bay we’ve been using tandem buck tails for a century. Thanks, awesome video!!

Trolling in NJ usually meant Bunker Spoons .. Hey btw, on Long Island the Flutter Spoons are all the Rage now , (once you find the fish) ..I've been using large Krocodile spoons for 3 decades especially when no one else seemed to be .. and I used them to cast to Tuna when everyone else was using only larger hammered diamonds .. people use what they like to use .

Great video! Very informative, what type of rod and reel setup are you using for those mojos?

How much line do I put out

Looks like the tail on those shads kind of twists and untwists over and over again instead of wagging. I wonder if that is the design of the lure or if it is how fast its being trolled or both. Do those tails break off often?

Best to go with an 80 ounce jig. You'll want to run 'em on the bottom. Keep em in the zone.

the question was asked but not one video tells you how fast to troll. I'm using the 16oz. Moho.

This was covered at 2:30 in the video. I generally troll 2.5 to 3.5 knots. Vary the speed throughout the day until you find out what works best for the given conditions.

Ron Kalenka thank you. I’ll keep trying.

I could totally be wrong, but I was under the impression that pumping the rod (like shown in the video) while reeling the striper in could actually increase the chance of losing them. Am I misinformed?

You pull rod back..then reel as u lower rod to gain line back..the key is to keep a tight line.

    • @Fendamonky
      @Fendamonky 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@jonathanwise4252 I understand the reasoning behind the technique. However, I recall seeing elsewhere that it is *specifically* advised not to do this when bringing in stripers since it can widen the gap in the fishes lip and increase the potential for them to shake the hook.

You are correct...just reel it in.

    • @rw5473

He's lowering the rod tip while reeling to retrieve the line. This is acceptable when trolling for any species. As Jonathan Wise mentioned, keeping the line taunt, not allowing slack is key. You're in for a hell of a long arm workout if you just stand and reel without using an upward pull and retrieve method!

R W it’s doable, it just busts your ass! I landed a 43” striper using that technique and had a bruise on my hip for over a month.

Lose one rig and will be crying yur way all the way home because of the $$$$ loss. Guides can pass the cost along to their customers.
