I take my lunch break in the parking lot, mount my phone in the holder, Bluetooth to the car's audio system and Grim Reaper it until the end of video or end of 30 minute lunch break, whichever comes first. Then finish on afternoon break. Hell of a system for consuming GR content. Last week I did it in -10° F weather, this week it's 65° F. So I am an "all weather" GR fan.

  • @shtorm2616
    @shtorm2616 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey, Cap! To answer your question about the purpose of the B-21, it's mainly because of 2 things: good ol' bombing, and range.
    First, bombing. The thing is, bombs are much cheaper than pretty much any missile. If you can get an aircraft to within bombing range of a target (ie. stealth), then that negates missiles' range advantage while being cheaper and doing more damage due to numbers and not having engines, fuel, etc. instead using that volume for explosives instead.
    Next is the Raider's range. This also answers the question: why not just use F-35s? It's because the B-21 can stay in continental US keeping it safe from everything but ICBMs while on the ground. Fighter aircraft would have to be positioned in-theater where their airbases would be vulnerable to enemy missiles. The Raider won't have this problem while still being able to reach targets anywhere in the world.

      @@RoscoeDaMule Bro that was insanely fucking quick for that time, especially after the losses the US Navy suffered at Pearl Harbor. The Doolittle raid as stated was a morale victory but one of the side effects of the raid was that the Japanese Navy and Army Air Force withdrew a lot of warships and aircraft to defend the home islands which diverted assets away from other theatres. So on the flip side it did have a negative effect on the Japanese military... Also do have a look at the proprosed F-22N with the swing wings ala Tomcat... and the A-12 for the naval strike element...

    They retained their guns on the mission. Remember though those amounted to a pair of .50 cal in the dorsal turret and a single .30 cal in the nose. There were no waist or tail guns on the model they used. The broom sticks were installed in the tail to give the illusion of a tail gunners position. The original belly guns were remotely controlled and didn’t work well enough to hit anything so that gun position was removed period, not just for the Tokyo raid.

    • @RicktheCrofter

      You’re one of the few people to get this right. It was the B-25B. It didn’t have a tail gunner. The top turret was mounted aft of the bomb bay to double as a tail gun. However, several of them did use the broom handles painted black to give the illusion of a tail gun.

The Americans picked up on it and used all the samples to help figure out how to decode the Japanese naval code. From then on, they could intercept most of the messages.

    Tye B-25 Mitchell bombers on the Dolittle raid were never meant to complete their bombing mission and return to the carrier(s). The bombers were meant to take off at max range and as soon as they got airborne, the carrier group turned around so as to protect the group. The Mitchell's were meant to continue on and land in China. The machine guns they ditched was due to a Jap ship getting a visual on the carrier group. Although the Jap ship was destroyed, there was no promise they didn't relay a warning message. The bombers had to take off early, and the guns were ditched so extra fuel cans could be added to the bombers to try and make it to China mainland.

    B-17C and D models didn't have tail guns, they flew with broom handles to simulate mgs when fighting the Japanese, also early B29s had a 20mm cannon as well as 2 x .50 cals in the til, the 20 mm cannon was removed, some B-29s flew with a broom handle to simulate a 29mm cannon.

    Super Carrier needs to add a net for emergency landings, then you could land (almost?) anything on it.
