If a shootout had happened, even assuming no overwatch from the trees, Amos was 100% toast, seeing as he was out in front with a wrench. No Amos, no ship repair, nobody leaves. Clarissa definitely saved more people than she got killed that day.
To me, when Naomi first gets on the ship, the scene of her scanning the bomb and all the wiring, and her reaction to it indicate that she is coming to the conclusion that there is nothing she can do to stop the bomb.
Yar. Haven't read the books so I dunno if it's covered but it would seem to me that the bombs are interlinked with the shipwide equivalent of a dead man's switch.
Disconnect any one charge or detonator and the rest of them go big badda boom.
Otherwise, they're designed to stay powered until another ship comes within the kill zone and then ... also big badda boom.
Ergo, by herself and with the lack of tools, tampering with the bomb system would mean death.
My theory, anyway.

I mean, that's already the case for any rocket with enough juice to break orbit. Heck, really any rocket in terms of relative size. From shoulder fired up to a Saturn 5, any amount of rocket exhaust is dangerous to directly receive.
IRL lighting up the Epstein drive that close to the ground would probably incinerate the ship at the same time and coat a several mile radius around the ship with radioactive byproducts.
Also, when Amos fixed the ship he said: "Bad power coupling was tripping all the power when it got the juice. I yanked it an ran a bypass, hopefully the extra load won't set the ship on fire"

The show lets Naomi down in this episode but only because of the transition from written to film. Her internal monolog of how she troubleshoots her situation shows her to be so capable and smart.

If somebody has been watching from the start & *STILL* doesn't know how capable & smart Naomi is - It wouldn't matter _what_ was put to screen: There's nothing you can do for them. 🤷🏻♂️😉

I don’t think the technical acumen of Naomi is lost in these scenes just because her distress is front and center; her desperate tinkering is that much more impressive IMO
Note that most of the gunfight scene is one long, single take. Interesting commentary on after-show podcast "Ty and That Guy" about the logistics of filming it.

I found their reaction to this really tense, emotional and awesome scene weirdly muted. They barely alluded to it in their discussion after too.

yes and thats why these scene so far is my fav gun fight scene of the whole series.
So now after a cool sci-fi show you should pick another iconic sci-fi production. To this for my boy Eric and start watching Fringe. That's the most criminally underrated sci-fi show in history. :)
Season 6 is coming this month tho.

Space is a vacuum. However hot something is, it will have to radiate its heat away before it would get cold. When Naomi saw the drop of water fall it reminded her that she is under thrust gravity and when has grown up in spin gravity.
That episode of The Magic Schoolbus where Arnold takes his helmet off on Pluto and his head immediately turns to ice was lies!

5:10 If i renember correctly acording to Ty .. the ones that leave the room with Avasarala are the civilians in the cabinet.. of the rest some agree but dont stand up cause they are military but they do support the others later on as we will see
The trippy thing about this episode is the house escape scene is all one long shot.
I recognized the name of the episode it’s a lake in New Hampshire
It's a glacial lake, IIRC, and also has a fair number of luxury resort communities along the shoreline.
I got curious and looked it up. Anybody who has money to spend could actually visit the place. :)

I remember reading that the Romans were unnerved when they first encountered naked Gaul warriors.
Completely different context though. Nudity wasn't really uncommon or shameful in their society. The Romans were not prudish at all.

The blast doors that they didn't wait for to close would have protected the house from the exhaust blast. It only blew everything to hell because they were still open.

Trying to figure out what Naomi was up to was a bit frustrating.
The alternative was probably her talking to herself describing everything she’s doing as exposition, which would have been very jarring and likely remove all the tension from the scenes. I’m very glad they didn’t do that.
Yes, I didn't understand what she was doing and I was like wtf are you doing lmao but after my 5th re watch I'm totally in auwww at how smart she is and of course reading everyone's comments and stuff.
With about 15 minutes of thought, I have a much better joke. An Earther, a martian, and a belter walk into a bar on Ceres. The belter orders a Martian whiskey and says "heres to the Belters that made this drink possible". The Martian orders an Earth tequilla and says "heres to thinking like your enemy". The Earther orders Ganymede gin, drinks it, orders a Martian whiskey, drinks that, he goes to order the Earth tequilla but then he realizes it costs more than his last two drinks combined. He orders a water instead, sips it, sighs, and says "I should've stayed on Earth."

The bomb cannot be disarmed. We are shown that when she first looks at the bomb and sees that if she attempts to disarm it after it is activated it will explode.
Yeah, but in theory maybe one could try and disable it in some novel way that wouldn't trigger any anti-sabotage mechanism
@@scottwatrous, one could, with sufficient time, and the correct tools. Accelerating on an intercept, wracked by pressure-sickness, with only a single, improvised tool, I would give it less than one chance in a thousand. And Naomi Nagata is enough of an engineer to exhaust all of the more likely scenarios before going to the "Hail Mary" play.

@@Kennia1998 I knew they were going to react to it before I saw their reaction to episode 1, but I'm thinking about the timing of their reactions.... Since Season 6 starts before their season 5 ends, and they like to do "live" reactions, so they would typically be a week behind.

I love this show but They spent way too much time on Naomi on the ship. Her being on the ship was 2 pages total.

They'll be watching as a "live" show week to week as it airs I believe. This (catch up of season 1-5) took up one of their weekly slots for tv shows, which is now replaced by a different show (voted for by patrons). They have a very busy schedule and only do "live" shows if they're very interested in them.

Favorite episode of these last few seasons. If for nothing else but that shot of Amos and crew launching into orbit. The camerawork on this show has been second to none. Ready for ep 10 then s6 😔.

Their entire dynamic is that of FAMILY, and the authors have made us aware that they do not shy away from the different family/social dynamics that are part of the human experience in the creation of The Expanse. Also, if you check the blogs (particularly Ty and That Guy) they do make a point that these people are a committed, long-term relationship so yes. Married.
