My wife and I are Americans who just returned two days ago from a three week visit to see our daughter who lives in London. We took an easy 2 hours train ride to York Dec. 17-19. It was FABULOUS! As the video states, York over flows with history. English history, Viking history, Roman history blended into a quaintly modern city And it’s very accessible. It is so easy to listen to tourism hype about a place only to be disappointed by any number of things. York is absolutely everything we had hoped for and more. English history, Viking history, Roman history in a quaintly modern city. The Christmas market was vibrant, diverse and filled with polite and happy shoppers. Wonderful and different foods, mulled wine The York Minster is breathtaking. It was so great to see so few chain restaurants and shops. Small pubs and shops with friendly and helpful shop keepers providing quality products dominate the scene. Accommodations are quite reasonable (compared to London). It was almost shocking to return to London, a crowded city of 9 million after such a lovely time in York (142,000). Cannot recommend highly enough. The video presents an accurate overview.
My wife and I visited York for the first time in September 2023. York was absolutely one of the best places we visited on our tour of the United Kingdom. On our first night in York we heard church bells peeling loudly. As we walked quickly towards the sound we discovered it was York Minster. It was an incredible experience.
What a beautiful city ! Bet it looks even better covered in snow . The Government should pay you for promoting your beautiful country ! I bet you have inspired a lot of people to visit !! Have a great week and stay safe ! 💚❤️💚❤️🎁🤶🎄☃️🌨️❄️🎅🎄🦌❄️⛄🥶🧊🎁🎄
This video shows just a tiny snippet of how beautiful York is! It’s a magnificent city with such a wealth of history. I’m going to plan a trip back in spring or summer and do a full tour so I can share much more!! Gosh I wish they would.. I work with tourist boards as a photographer for a living so that would be an excellent addition having the government on board 😅 Hope you have an excellent week ahead! ❤️✨🎄
I’m an American and I’ll never be able to get there, so thank you for taking us through this beautiful city. I love the shops! Yes, please do send out a more complete view of the city as you suggested. Also, The various views you give are lovely, as well as the very calm, relaxing, musical accompaniment. I know it’s a lot of work in editing. Thank you for that. If you can make them even a little longer, that would be wonderful.
The first thing that I have to say is how relaxing it is to watch your videos . Your filming is always excellent and the music is never overpowering . Of course York is the star here . There is a lot of history and the different architecture to enjoy . And I would guess that being there for the Holidays makes it look even more grander .
I live in York, I love taking friends on tours around the city - I was there yesterday (13/12/23) with a friend who was likewise passing through. It's lovely to see the city through the eyes of visitors and I always see or have pointed out to me things I've never seen. Next time you come you should walk the walls for some of the finest views of the medieval city - best section is from Bootham Bar to Monk Bar, but its all fascinating really.
We were there last week and loved it all.A marvellous Dark History Walk even though it was freezing all the party enjoyed the talk given by the guide.Next day it was the shops so many individual ones housed in magnificent old buildings. We had a very wet day but went prepared and had a wonderful day.We ended up after a fabulous Nepalese meal at the York Philhamonic Choir in York City Church which was so Christmassy. So much to see and do.
Thanks for this lovely video. I’m from the middle of the US and have spent over a month in York (during 5 trips to the UK)… we always returned to York since it was our favorite base for that area. It’s easy to take day trips to Castle Howard, the Dales, the Moors, Whitby, and Durham from a base in York. Sometimes we drove, sometimes we just hired a local taxi. The music you’ve used in this video suits York, especially at that time of day. New subscriber here, keep up the good work!
As a 'Yorkie' I appreciate your comments - it's amazing even when you've lived here 20+ years as I have. Next time you visit I recommend a bus trip to Whitby - the Coastliner 840 claims to be one of the most scenic bus routes in Europe and it really is fabulous. It takes about 2½ hours but is well worth the trip. if you want a circular trip you can then take the coastal road bus to Scarborough and get the train back to York (also scenic). Coincidentally, I'm currently obsessed with a channel called Joe & Nic's Road Trip, which explores every state of the US. Fascinating!
Another interesting town is Blandford Forum. It's on an old Roman road, and all around the area are tiny villages with old pubs. The river Stour runs through, and once you're off the road you can walk for miles along fields and hills from village to village, and cycle along the old railway track. If you like engineering, the railway at Shillingstone always looking for volunteers to repair the steam train and track.
Recently returned from a trip to England. Spent a few days in York and it was beautiful. Walking the city walls is a very relaxing way to get a feel for the city and experience some of its history.
Thank you! I ran out of time to share the market unfortunately 😂 It’s very good though and would definitely recommend. That’s exciting to hear that you’ll be visiting next year, I’m sure you’ll love it!
Thank you so much for this beautiful little virtual vacation. I appreciate the wonderful balance of narration with historical information, visual beauty, and background music. I was transported!
I came across your channel, and I must say, wow! Thank you for sharing this beautiful city with us! Your video is beautifully made and the music is so calming. I look forward to your videos! Subscribed already! Thanks again! ❤
I’ve always wanted to see York from a traveller’s point of view and you’ve shown it beautifully. I hope to visit someday. Watching from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your passions. You always do a beautiful job, and I love your music choices. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family ❣️Lynn in Naples FL 🎅
I just love your country , I visited and entertained me n my doughter one month before covid start. We for sure are coming again. Thats a promise to ourselfs. England is beautiful everywhere,,,,,,,,,
Stacy thank you for watching such splendid cities. I would like to ask you 5 most beautiful and charming medieval cities in England. In my poin of view it has to be Chester, Oxford, York, Stratford-upon-Avon and Canterbury. I Wish you luck.
@@theslowtravelsfamily that is mistake a lot of Americans make they visit and never leave London they are missing out on some of the best places in the country
Your video is very nice, the city is charming to visit and enjoy history. Though I would never like to live there, especially in the historic centre, as it reminds of some dark sad pages of the past with its too narrow winding streets, too old buildings. Nevertheless, I admire the English for your ability to preserve history not in single buildings surrounded by modern ones, as it happens in some countries, but in whole cities. Actually, England is a living history. I wonder what places you prefer yourselves: historic or modern.
It’s called the Shambles Kitchen. It’s amazing!! www.shambleskitchen.co.uk It was started by a chap who went to uni in the states and thankfully learned some sandwich making skills to bring home to York with him, they’re sooo good 😍 he also owns the burrito place in the video too so which I also highly recommend.

What was the name of the shop where you got that massive sandwich?

All pubs are haunted, they have spirits behind the bar. York is great to visit but try living here its a joke.
