    Felix took the 16 personalities (16 stereotypes) test yesterday on stream, and got INTJ. What do you think about this?

    • @EricWen
      @EricWen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +350

      The 16 Personalities Test is a great fun starting point to introduce people to mbti but it mistypes all the time, bc it doesn’t focus on the mbti cognitive functions (i call them personality superpowers in my videos). We all have an introverted and extroverted side, an abstract and grounded side, a logical and emotional side and a spontaneous and more structured side. We are nuanced and very complex. 16 personalities looks at those splits in a very binary way that oversimplifies things and leads to some mistakes. The cognitive functions are more complicated to learn but for typing much more nuanced and bring a lot of accuracy.
      Anyways So when a newcomer is analyzing themselves with a test that isn’t focused on clarifying the nuanced motivations behind people’s introversion/extroversion/logic/emotions etc and instead just asks about outward behavior, it’s easy to get inaccurate mixed results.
      Felix getting INTJ on 16p just means that from his perspective not knowing about the cognitive functions, he sees in himself how he’s introverted, intuitive, logical and can be organized sometimes.
      But, if you break it down from a cognitive function perspective, the way Felix looks at things and sorts things out - his strengths are clearly the cognitive functions : Introverted Thinking, Extroverted Intuition, Introverted Sensing and Extroverted Feeling in that order for the reasons explained in this video. Those particular building blocks in that order match perfectly with the INTP personality type, not INTJ.

    As an ENFP, I really admire and envy introverted thinkers. I do find it hard to discuss movies with them though. After we leave the theater, they give me a brilliant breakdown of weak spots in the plot. Meanwhile, I didn't even notice the plot, just how the movie made me feel, or how one of the actors walks, or little irrelevant bits of scenery. Then I try to improvise opinions about the plot that I really didn't absorb at all and sound like an idiot, haha. But I very much enjoy their presence. I get tired of living so much in my feelings/random impulses and my introverted thinker friends give me a break from that.

This is because I know I’m probably, at least partially, wrong. This is because I’m humble enough to know that I am wrong. It is easy for ENTPs to change their mind when they learn that a well known belief was proven to be a myth. We are constantly changing our minds because we know we are wrong. @@conradsmith9441 So.. another opinion here: I am an INFP-T. There was an ENTP in my class and at first I didn't liked him because he always discussed with the teachers and he was an attention seeker and often talked.. bulls*t. Lol. :D
      But after reading about his type I realised that he isn't that bad. I tried to get to know him more and I think I got under his "I am so loud, funny and smart" shell. And under this shell he was really different. I learned to don't always trust what someone says. Even when he had a different opinion from me or said something that sounded really wrong I think he only said it to confuse others or to get attention or to make people discuss with him.
      So.. don't feel bad because you are you. Not everybody needs to like you. And people who don't like you shouldn't make you don't like yourself because it is normal. Not everyone likes everyone.
      So.. I hope you feel a little bit better now. ^^

But when I've ask other people in the group they tell me they don't see that at all.
    I've always felt different, and that feeling grew stronger when as a guy, I started realizing I was attracted to guys. And I though that was the reason I always felt so different, but as time went by I realized I felt even more different to other gay guys than I did to heterosexual guys. There was a time in my teenage years where I started to read about mental illnesses to try to find what was going on with me. A few years later I discovered I was an INTP LOL and that explained a lot of things, my homosexuality only made some feelings of detachment from the group stronger. I wasn't going to relate to other guys my age in terms of interests, but I would not share even an interest in girls. So for some years I felt incapable to connect to other guys. I am looking to learn more about the cognitive functions so that I can type people and seeing this kind of videos really give me insight on what to look for in people when trying to type them. Maybe in the future you can make analysis on the personality of fictional characters as well. Movies, tv series, anime. That would be interesting.

    as an INTP, I wish it was easier to have a group of friends
    I've been in groups during school and college before, but I have a hard time connecting with the group as a whole and only connect deeply with the few individuals that have the same interests as I do
    for that reason, I only have like two friends that I actually like to talk to and hang out with, but I feel bad cuz they have many friends besides me lol
    and it's so hard to try to be friends with ppl that are different than me, feels so demanding to listen and be empathetic if I can't relate

    This whole video just explained me so well, whih is quite nice. I never felt like I didn't have enough friends in school, but I definitely felt like I couldn't always relate to people without lying/giving in to stuff I knew was dumb. Like there was genuinely a massive falling out that split the friend group in half over some fucking cupcakes once, but I couldn't just give in, because I insisted that queuing for an hour to pay $5 for a cupcake was ridiculous when you could, like, *make* cupcakes in less time than that, for much less money. I think I'm a bit better about it now, but I do still have to remind myself to stop and think before saying something offensive.

    with the way he communicates, i get the Extroverted Sensing-Introverted Intuition axis because he goes outward to inward. he's definitely pragmatic and down-to-earth, knocking INTP and ENTP off the table because they use Si-Ne and go inward to outward. i'd say he's more of an ISTP and an enneagram core 6 with a 5 wing, and this 5 wing helps with exploring new ideas and abstract stuff.

    Just found the channel today and enjoying the nuanced take on the letters (never heard of introverted versus extroverted thinking, introverted versus extroverted sensing, etc.), but until this video was despairing of finding any personality combination that actually started with an I, as actors and entertainers overwhelmingly seem to be E's. I mean, to want to people-please on that scale you'd kind of have to be, or be good at faking it, or you'd be totally drained. :) I guess the only group of famous people who are more likely to be introverts may be writers and some visual artists? It's kind of like the way so many people on TV overwhelmingly prefer dogs to cats. It's not mutually exclusive, but which animal would gregarious people pick? Which animal would, if it could talk, be saying, "Guys! Guys! Guys!" all the time? ...not cats. :)
    I'm clearly older than the target audience for the channel and haven't viewed the entertainers who are barely on my radar, but I do really like your analysis style, probably because I also love analyzing other people's behavior because it's pretty foreign to me. I share that with Pewdiepie (a thing I never-ever thought I'd say) but from the Taylor Swift stuck-in-the-past video I recognize the Introverted Sensing, very memory-oriented thing also. People will ask how I can still remember every teacher and every classroom I ever had in school and I'll be like, "...I'm there now." Which may be a pathology, but it's how I store and process info. :)
    Anyway, you've gained a subscriber and I will set the bell to all notifications. Thank you for your content!

    I'm curious to see if anyone can relate: I'm 99.99% sure I'm an INTP and on the spectrum (that one was diagnosed). Everything about the INTP descriptions from the stereotypes to the memes to the functions fits...
    ...except the bluntness that people like Felix displayed in this video. My Fe seems to be pretty good at least in terms of recognition of emotions and how to respond but with the caveat that it feels like I'm following a script rather than coming from a place of genuine feeling (i.e. "I know I'm meant to say this so I'll say it"). In fact in most cases even when I could respond with logic I'll respond with this script instead. At the same time there are things about interpersonal reactions that I definitely don't get right, even things I know better about like if someone says Hi to me and my name I'm meant to say Hi and their name back but I can only manage the Hi.
    I think I'm just overthinking and it's just a different manifestation of inferior Fe but another part of me thinks "what if I'm wrong about this as well". Like the nature of INTP is we question and overthink everything and I take it so such an extreme (like almost Cartesian level) that I've largely given up being sure of anything and I just describe what I think as "the best model I currently have". Anyway I'd love to see if anyone's had a similar experience.

    • @EricWen
      @EricWen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup similar approach for me too. I feel like I use the “script” to try to express emotionally what I’m trying to say. Like over time I’ve learned little things I can say or do to emote and express myself more or better by learning social rules and navigating them as best I can.
      And now it’s gotten to the point where I’d say I’m actually pretty socially adept in my own logical cautious INTP way. Especially if it’s one on one.

    • @EricWen
      @EricWen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! They have a lot of similarities!
      One of the main differences though is that INTP’s sort internally with unemotional logical data points - reasoning things out based on validity and congruency
      Whereas INFP’s “data points” are their personal precise feelings and intentions and they try to sort to figure out or prioritize the interpretation that aligns or feels most authentic to what they were feeling/value
      They both are super similar though in how much they care about their personal clarity and convictions as well as how eagerly they sort and filter and question :)

    i used to be annoyed when hes still starting cuz most channels i was watching was overtaken by his hustling of lets plays. i was defo one of those haters back then since indeed he found a loophole and he did what he did unlike the gaming channels i was subbed to who were playing it safe (just posting clips from former Twitch named Justin.TV) that eventually disappears as years go by. i was really dishearten seeing my fave gaming youtubers die out without adapting. his lets plays aint original cuz anyone can think of it but hes the only person bold enough to actually do it even consistently. those early 2010s was really rough for my fave channels and hated pewds cuz of it lmao
    tho around 2016/17 i ran into his channel again and when hes doing these videos where he gets to share his thoughts about things, no matter how shallow or deep his takes are, i grow to respect him since yeah.. he knows what he wants to do and he really explore the possibilities of what he can do more. he doesnt wanna get stuck doing the same thing. tho he doesnt go big in his ideas and prefers to stay still on his comfy zone, hes still exploring whatever interests him, where most of them are intellectual exploring and luckily enough im interested on those as well. every now and then i watch his videos. i cant exactly call myself a fan but i defo have respect towards him and i just say *touchè* for what he did in early 2010s to be where he is now. he keeps saying his lucky but his consistency and exploration are his biggest strengths
