I get major Doctor Doom vibes from Raul's portrayal of Bison and I mean that as a compliment. Like Doom, Bison really does believe that the world would be so much better if he were just in charge of it all, but he knows people will only realize that afterwards, and they'll never let go of their power without a fight. So he fights. And because of this he's branded a warlord, a dictator, a terrorist, etc. It reminds me of a quote from Jamie Lannister: "When we've won the war, and people are living in the peaceful world we built, do you really think people will wring their hands over the way we built it?" The best villains are the ones where you can see their point, and the more you think about it, the more convincing they start to sound. Great performance by a great actor.

Everything you see in the movie is what bison was before the psycho power. That man is one of the greatest treasures. Even if the project he was in was terrible, HE was gold. He made this so much fun to watch even to this day. Not alone mind, there were other gems too. As a kid Van Damm drew me in, as an adult Raul brings me back in every time.
Everyone's talking about M. Bison's speech, Zangief's comment afterward, and Dee Jay's reaction to his comment. All of those are excellent and really make the scene, but Dee Jay's body language after M. Bison asks why people call him a "warlord" deserves some love too.
As a kid of the 80s I first became of Raul Julia in the movie 'Presumed Innocent' when he played Harrison Ford's defense attorney. His presence just overshadowed Han Solo/Indiana Jones! And I watched him over the years in so many other things until he became 'Gomez', and the world realized just how good he was. Then when Van Damme was making 'Streetfighter', and they were putting the cast together and Raul reached out to JCVD and the director saying "Hey I want to be in your movie." I remember in an interview Van Damme telling him, "Raul, this is an over the top action movie, this isn't your kind of movie." And Raul told him that he was looking for something "fun" again after coming off of "The Burning Season" and "Down Came a Blackbird". RIP Raul Julia, you were truly one of the greats.
Raul Julia left us far too soon, his potential was virtually unlimited and had it not been for his cancer he'd would've been an even bigger icon today, RIP 😞
Raul Julia could read an ingredient label and make it passionate and noteworthy. He could recite from the dictionary and bring tears and joy and resounding pathos. Honestly, if someone had him recite a list of random words - he would have you searching for the hidden meaning in that randomness. He put 200% into everything. He made this film rise above its origin and took it to the next level. He poured all he had into this, just as he did with every role. Street Fighter might never be "great" but it will always be a classic.
Street Fighter is great because of Raul Julia's acting. It's insane to think that he did this movie as he recovered from cancer treatment, he did it for his kids. ;_;

Matthew Puckett Well, Feminism means “equal rights”, by definition, and that sounds like a good thing. But in practice, when urinals are now banned, it’s ridiculous and actually antithetical to the original cause. “Equality” sounds good on the surface, as well, but that’s not the same as “equity”. America has Equality, by law, but since the equity of outcome is different, terms and phrases like “white privilege” are made up to scapegoat the reality. Ignoring the core issue or cause of a problem will never solve anything.
Must give it up for this man, he was so sick by this that he had to take breaks to rest between scenes. There’s a respect I have for people who know it’s their last go and they’re going to go out strong. RIP Raul, still the best Gomez too!

hahahhahah, so true!!!! @@KevinMuller5
Also when we asks why they still call him a warlord and mad??? 😂
Watch this remembering he is literally on his last leg and just got off his deathbed to make this movie
When I was a kid, I thought he was saying "Packs Bisonica", and I imagined this army of Blankas grazing peacefully in a field after all the conquering was done.
Now that I'm older, I understand that he meant "Pax Bisonica". And it is glorious.
Man gave one hell of a performance and he was dying from cancer at the same time. Mad respect to Raul Julia. I'll always remember him as bison and the patriarch of the Addams family. Rest in peace.
perfection, I agree
GOMEZ!! wonderful
Check him out in Tequila Sunrise with Kurt Russell and Mel Gibson!! He was a fucking amazing actor!!
I didnt like his performance as Bison sorry. He seemed too much like a Shakespeare character
@@sexydudeuk2172 oh I agree. It was so bad it was good. I just feel like this is an alternate version of bison that you can like or hate lol
Damn he was good. RIP raul julia
taken from us far too soon
The world is remiss for his passing. RIP Mr. Julia. I hope you are at peace in death.
He could have been in a marvel movie
he was the best Gomez in Addams Family
Well he performed Shakespeare and acted in Broadway. And it shows in his delivery of pretty much everything in Street Fighter.
He was dying, but he still enjoyed himself making it. What a legend
Say what you will about this movie, but I would rather have Raul Julia giving an incredibly hammy speech rather than having a buff old man with no pupils, grinning with his arms crossed.
I was about to comment something like that, but will just give you a thumbs up.
ZETSUBU NU RUI!
The way I see Raul's Julia's Bison. This is pre psycho power bison before his powers consumed his mind and made him pure evil. Before the psycho power he was charismatic leader dictator. Everything you see in the movie is what bison was before the psycho power. The end of the movie when bison hand comes up from the rubble is when he discovers his inner psycho power and after that the Bison we see hear is nothing but a memory. He's now the embodiment of pure evil.
SaitohYatate yeah might as well mass produce the big zam too th-cam.com/video/2kBfKhZ1wHg/w-d-xo.html
SaitohYatate He supposedly based him on Mussolini and Fidel Castro. It is a fun performance.
I wish cancer never took him, he's legit an awesome and great actor.
A true star and dearly missed.
But he died from drugs not cancer
@@theoneand0nly874 And then there's the know-no-shit
@@EarthwindPresas fuck off he died from a drug over dose you asshole
@@theoneand0nly874 you got it wrong. He died from stroke. But hr did have stomach cancer. You might have mixed up the drug OD from other actors. Go look it up.
"...and _mad?"_
DJ: 😱
Forget the other comment, quick change the channel😂
Bison: why do they keep calling me a warlord?
DJ (in his mind, over bison's back): i mean.... i can give at least 3 good reasons, mon...
Nah too much acting, it didn't looked natural at all
Pax Bisonnica. LOL, seriously?
RIP Raul Julia. Turned a shitty movie into an epic shitty movie.
4ndr3c3s4r1n0 and Van Damme had the best fight scenes.
well it is a shitty movie with Raul Julia's epic scenes
That delivery...like you KNOW what he is saying is ridiculous and corny as all get out, but he just delivers it beautifully XD
He used it right though.
Yes. Yes he did turn a shitty movie into an epic shitty movie!
Having stomach cancer but still giving his over the top performance. One of the greats indeed!
To think he did all the physical stunt work at his weakest first
Raúl Juliá, ladies and gentlemen. Weakened from his battle with cancer and still the biggest badass in a movie literally about badasses.
I didn't realise it at the time, but this version of M.Bison has so much of Solidus Snake energy.
I think there could be a connection there. 😂
I'm glad that the words "Carlos Blanka.." is part of the greatest speech in cinematic history.
Raul Julia left us far too soon, his potential was virtually unlimited and had it not been for his cancer he'd would've been an even bigger icon today, RIP 😞
As a Warhammer 40k fan... this plan feels perfectly legit. Just a smaller scale Great Crusade.
Aah. A fellow 40k'er.
Do you also get strong God Emperor of Mankind-vibes from R.J. 😉?
Yeah, this is definitely The Emperor talking to Malcador prior to launch!!!!!!
@@martinfiedler4317Well, considering his buildings architecture is nearly a perfect adaptation of the God-Emperor's Imperialis Symbol... 😊
The Lex Imperialis is just Pax Bisonica but 39000 years later.
He's basically a Psyker Commissar.
Me:
"Admit it Bison, all you really want to do is try and take over the world?"
M Bison:
"Of Course!"
YES!
I guess you didn't see that, did you!
Is that a Cenk Uygyr reference
@@Blighted_Ashes no. it was a nostalgia critic reference.
@@Taverens_Pull I believe it.
Street Fighter is great because of Raul Julia's acting. It's insane to think that he did this movie as he recovered from cancer treatment, he did it for his kids. ;_;
That’s a performance of a true Grade AAA ham! Chewing up the scenery like a true Boss! What a masterful performance by one of the all time greats.
A true final boss
I mean, the way he puts it. It doesn't really sound that bad.

Charisma 100
Just like “Equality” and “Feminism”...
People cause problems no people no problems- Stalin
Matthew Puckett Well, Feminism means “equal rights”, by definition, and that sounds like a good thing. But in practice, when urinals are now banned, it’s ridiculous and actually antithetical to the original cause. “Equality” sounds good on the surface, as well, but that’s not the same as “equity”. America has Equality, by law, but since the equity of outcome is different, terms and phrases like “white privilege” are made up to scapegoat the reality. Ignoring the core issue or cause of a problem will never solve anything.
The greatest speech ever, and the icing on the cake was Zangief at the end saying, "That was beautiful."
Must give it up for this man, he was so sick by this that he had to take breaks to rest between scenes. There’s a respect I have for people who know it’s their last go and they’re going to go out strong. RIP Raul, still the best Gomez too!
The fact he was likely in agony while filming this and he still pulled it off just goes to show the sheer talent he had
we're all zangeif :'(

“Ah, the road not taken. But why? Why do they still call me a warlord? And *mad?!* All I want to do is to create the perfect genetic soldier, not for power, not for evil, but for _good!_ Carlos Blanka will be the first of many - they shall march out of my laboratory and sweep away every adversary, every creed, every nation, until the very planet is in the loving grip of the Pax Bisonica… and then peace will reign in the world, *and all humanity shall bow to me in humble gratitude.”*
The Greatest Speech in Cinematic History
The day Bison graced the internet, was a point in our culture that will never be FORGOTTEN. But for him....
It was Tuesday.
Edit: RIGHT AS I POSTED THIS MY CLOCK SAID 12:01AM TUESDAY!!!!
Zangief kills my sides everytime with his delivery at the end
Every time? Do you mean you actually regularly watch this movie??

Raul Julia's performance singly carried this movie. What a great character
This maybe be a corny movie but it's my guilty pleasure and Raul Julia is such a phenomenal actor and boy did he owned the role as Bison
I Understand why he was in the movie because his sons played the video games knowing he had cancer this was his gift to them 🎁
- God rest your soul - 🙏
God Bless Raul Julia. He carried this movie and made it memorable. The fact that his "For me it was Tuesday" still gets referenced to this day is testimony of that.
i hate people who don't get why the "for me it was tuesday" is great writing. it shows that to him the most memorable event for chun-li that defined her purpose in life was just an ordinary day for Bison.
He understood the assignment! Never knew about his son being such a huge fan until reading the comments here and articles, LEGEND!
I love how he just had fun with this role.
Raul Julia elevated this movie to legendary status, but I will always praise how good his lines also were.
The Street Fighter Movie, and the 90’s Super Mario and Mortal Kombat movies are some of my guilty pleasures.
1:15 Zangief: "Dee Jay, I've just noticed something. Have you looked at the design of our lair recently?"
Dee Jay: "No... a bit... why?"
Zangief: "It looks like a skull."
Dee Jay: "Hm?"
Zangief: "Have you noticed that our lair is designed to look like a skull?"
Dee Jay: "Uh... I don't, uh..."
Zangief: "Dee Jay… are we the baddies?"
You've seen this movie, right?
Also seen that Mitchell & Webb look as this exact premise is taken from a sketch depicting two Nazi soldiers and one notices they are wearing a skull.
Started thinking the same skit after seeing the building lol
RottingEarth Bingo 👍 That sketch had me in stitches, it’s so true 😂
"You got... paid? - Zangief
considering he was going through chemo and suffering chronic pain during his filming, what an excellent performance.
He's a professional purely for being able to say "Pax Bisonica" with a straight face.
M.Bison has such a big heart. A true humanitarian.
We did not deserve this man, but for a tiny brief moment, he made our lives better.
It’s amazing how great this actors are when they are fighting for their lives and little did we know that.
The 'loving grip' of the pax Bisonica ... I still remember watching this movie years back... Loved General Bison. My favorite SF character.
He saved this movie in the memories of 90’s tweens everywhere.
I love it when he says 'grip' and then his glove squeezes a sound -- such a great contrast to the 'peace' he's talking about 😆
The movie isn't as dumb as most think it is.
"TODAY...WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!"
RIP Raul Rafael Julia.
Raul Julia was a great actor! God rest his soul! loved his acting style and how he truly made you believe the character he was playing!
The way he bowed his head as if he was overwhelmed by his speech
Raul Julia epic performance turned this into the best bad movie of all time.
And he did it in the middle of dying of cancer because his sons were huge Street Fighter fans.
He truly is one of the greatest.
He was the best actor in this whole film itself.
Bison dropped Tuesday night in sf6 making a tribute to this amazing man. Rip Raul
Thanks for an amazing performance mr Julia.
Raul was the only actor in this fuckfest of shit that was having fun with his role.
It was his last role, Go Big or Go Home. The guy put every ounce of Charisma he had into it.
It wasn't his last role.
That its true
It was his last film role Streetfighter. But Down Came a Blackbird was his last Tv role but the movie was released a year later . When Street fighter was released posthumously after Raul Julia had passed away. So in a way Streetfighter was his last movie and last great performance he went out on top. He got the saturn award for his performance as bison and has become a legend so much so that anyone who becomes a live action version of Bison cant top him but can only be 2nd behind him at best.
This whole scean is perfect from the performance of the speech and the utter mad conviction and be a life to the perfectly timed joke of zangif tearing up and the look dj gives him
This and Skeletor's speech in the He-Ham film. The best villain speeches in cinema.
"...and all humanity shall bow to me in humble gratitute."
_Zangief notices skull on Bison's hat and building design_
"Master Bison...are we the baddies?"
Raul Julia is absolutely amazing in this role and most of the reason why I love this movie so much. As epic as this speech is, and as great as Raul Julia's deliverance is, DJ's look at 1:20 gets me every time. 😅 That actor nailed his character beautifully as someone who was working for Bison simply because "he paid him a freaking fortune." Seriously underrated movie.
The most dangerous villains are the ones that claim they're working for justice. Some of the worst things in history have been done with "good intentions".
Hei Darkfire FACT
Except if they win.
Once they won, they would be hailed as heroes. But when they lose, the winner will record them as the villain.
