I love this lady! Thank you PBS for interviewing her. She answered every question flawlessly without getting defensive. I sure would have liked to have had a professor like her in college. No doubt she must be a very supportive mentor. I sure would like to know the three things she was faced with this morning but I can only guess.
1:15:00 This is one of the reasons so many are jealous of Vice President Kamala and even in California, she has had to fight many uphill battles with people trying to stop her from climbing the ladder.
This is a fantastic series, but I think your contributors have missed a point. Whilst Kamala and Maya were mostly brought up by their Indian mother, why did Shyamala choose for her daughters to be brought up as black American even though she had a difficult divorce. I think this was a strategic decision as her daughters had greater protection being part of the black identity because she would be part of larger ethnic group. Remember in 60’s and 70’s there were not many Indians in US and they were not the dominant successful community, they are now. She was also being brought up in a largely black area that embraced Shyamala and her daughters. Hence she chose that option. If the situation were to arise today, shyamala may have chosen to bring her daughters as of Indian origin (brown) As a person of Indian origin in a mixed marriage to a white Irishwoman, i understand how parents have to choose an identity for their children and it is not a very straight forward option of choosing simply fathers race as identity. Our son is an Irishman with Indian father and Irish mother. Dr Abhi Mantgani UK
1:16:00 Diversity is what has made the USA the best and strongest nation in the world. Don't judge people by their appearance but rather their character. This nation was built by immigrants around the world, not just European.
The different is immigrants are given a clean fresh start. so they are able to bypass the Gattos and . Red line communities , they can look at African American and know what to do and what not to do. The government also offers them a lot of help. What ever African American, have we had to fight for it.
It's exhausting explaining white supremacy to obsessed practitioners. Brava, Prof Greer for enduring. Not sure what the hair touching was about, but, my skin crawled for you.
Insane that we are having this discussion. America is a trip. Pick the history you want to defend. At every given point that it puts a particular group or party at an advantage, the rules and/or criteria changes. However the hell she identifies is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. She’s black, black, black, black! Period. Ugh get over yourselves and here’s a thought in advance… I don’t care about your opinions. Live your own life and comment on that. Damn we have so many important things to worry about right now and the fact that we’re having a discussion to understand her identity is absolutely ludicrous in every sense of the word.
As I listen to your interview regarding the portfolio that was given to her, Biden’s team did not give her an independent team to make things happen and did not empower her. She was being scapegoated by some of Biden close advisers. In eight weeks Kamala has shown her mettle. 👍🇺🇸
I want to know why is it that it's got to be so detailed in question and dissect it of her ethnicity, this is sickening this guy asking these questions this is ridiculous, and I don't understand why people try to act like people of any mixed race has to be questioned this way this is sickening ,okay why do we have to question the variety of certain type of black people they shave their origin where they live where they came from this is ridiculous do they do white people like that they come from different parts of the country, shit needs to stop,
@@1leberoinflation started under Trump. and you all know this, but still refuse to admit it. Just like the border crisis. The Dems have a bill that would have supported the borders, but Trump told the republicans to ignore! It. Now is this a lie or the truth? One thing about republicans, yall will lie to the end. This is y the party is so divided. Also this is y the democrats are going to win again. Watch Gods magic.
She is NOT a Black woman. She was born into A Hindu Indian family in Oakland, CA and grew up in Canada. Her father was a mulatto Jamaican ( and there is no record anywhere that this man ever identified himself as being Black by the way) and his own family was involved with and made money off of the the slave trade in Jamaica.
Absolutely not true. Black Americans are people of African descent. Most of us are mixed race. Early American law established the one drop rule listing all people of African descent as colored or negro.
LOL do what is she ? You surely would have let her know that she was black had she not been in the position she's in today. There's a reason why she was raised in a black neighborhood and went to a black college. Her parents knew exactly what was out there and here you are.
@Beijaxol Foundational Black Americans are the descendants of freedman and the descendants of the institution of slavery in the United States. Kamala Harris is a daughter of Indian immigrants. We are Foundational Black Americans Kamala is Not.
@Beijaxol White supremacy made uo the 1% rule. We have had an ethnogenesis and are not African Americans we are Foundational Black Americans who Built America from scratch. There was no United States of America until we Built it
@Caliboyk Key word is AMERICAN. The dominant society has a history of making rules to define Black people instead of letting our historical lineage speak for itself.
KAMALA NEEDS TO thank Sf mayor Willie Brown for her political career. HE put her own all the way initially and then steered her through California politics.
No one excels on their own, I'm sure there were plenty of people along her journey that made contributions to her success, as the case with Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary and Bill Clinton, and anyone else, including YOU!
@MPR2 Yeah, ok. But out here in the Bay, we know Willie Brown put her on, all the way. IF he wouldn't have dealt with her, she wouldn't be where she is at all. Bringing her over from Alameda county DA to San Francisco changed her life. That small little move.
What's up with theses questions. He act like black people can tell you what she went through and can define her life growing up!! Talk to Kamala!!! Why aren't he asking her about questions that are going to help us!! I dont like this!!! Ask Kamala about her experience!!!
Ignoring her father Might make some voters vote for trump!! How can u want to be president and ignore ur dad Never invited him in 2020 inauguration But JD had been honoring his mother though she wasn't there in his life
@Benedir Trump was a very difficult child, so his mom sent him to military school. They had a distant relationship, and I don't remember him ever talking about her.

12:12:09 well if people are disrespected then perhaps they should protest in legal peaceful means and not by graffiti tags and car meetups but by not making themselves I don't know what's the word but into the stereotype they say they hate, you know?

Professor Greer brings such knowledge to the table♥️
I really appreciate this dialogue and learned a lot from watching it.

More Black excellence on display in this PBS interview. Thank you, Professor Greer!

There was slavery in Jamaica and in India
Shes not discounting their slavery, but more American Decedent's of Slavery are differentiating for the case for Reparations.
1:08:28 what sort of creepiness is this!?
What's up with the questions he is asking?
I'm so confused, what the heck was that moment? She was uncomfortable for sure.😮
speak!
Thank you Dr Greer for your time, efforts and service to humanity.

Harris/ Walz. Vs. Antichrist/ Jethro.
I was listening hoping to hear how her time in Canada informs her identity and politics.

I detect a biased narrative
Jamaicans experienced Chattel Slavery, as I understand (Kamala's Dad)

This is a series where they interview other people and ask them about the two candidates.
Ignoring her father
Might make some voters vote for trump!!
How can u want to be president and ignore ur dad
Never invited him in 2020 inauguration
But JD had been honoring his mother though she wasn't there in his life
She talked about her father at the convention... Trump never talks about his mother...!!
@Benedir Trump was a very difficult child, so his mom sent him to military school. They had a distant relationship, and I don't remember him ever talking about her.
@Benedir why would you invite a person who wasn't part of your life or have no memory of? His loss not hers.
@poolmilethirty2859 she is loosing the black men votesl!all they hear it's her mother
Obama talked about his father
They only spent maybe 1 day together in 72
Professor harris met with his daughters
Quite often
Took them to Jamaica
He deserves honor
It wasn't his fault
It's the system in America
He should have had other kids
🤷🤦♀️
