- Here's how I turned a fairly big plumbing issue into a simple fix. My toilet cracked on the water tank. I fixed it with a little bit of ca glue.

nice. I'm about to do the same repair. CA glue is great stuff. The low viscosity allows it to be sucked into hairline cracks by capillary action. I once filled a pipe crack with CA, applied baking soda, then sanded and applied a ca soaked piece of fiberglass cloth to the outside, more baking soda. 2 years and still holding pressure.
The fiberglass is a great idea
That kid is defo so proud of himself for breaking that toilet 😂
Yeah, awfully suspicious.
😂Here cuz my son broke mine too, the nicer one thats easy clean bottom that I saved up for at that. Great job in this vid!! His dad threw away the porcelin piece though I felt it could be fixed. Wish I saw this sooner. New replacement tank ir entire toilet on the horizon now & bucket flushing til then
It's unfortunate that a new tank costs nearly as much as an entire toilet.
@@VanDamArtisan Exactly! Just got off the phone with American Standard & they don't have just the tank so will have to cross my fingers & hope Menards will help me remedy this or else it's entire new one. Same w/the 50 inch tv he broke, screen costs as much as just getting a new one
@@homesteadmoon that's lame about the TV too. Good luck with the toilet.
@@VanDamArtisan Thanks😊
I am writing to you from the Czech Republic, I have a similar problem and will try your method, thank you
Good luck to you!
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THE REPAIR OF HUGE CRACKS IS POSSIBLE!!!!!
Anything is possible if you just believe
@@VanDamArtisan lol so true, it's possible. Lol. Ima about to fix the crack on my toilet, at least mines a lil higher I don't have to empty the whole tank. Lol at blow dryer. Ur boy is so cute lil blondie, like mine who's turning 17next week ah cherish them while theyre that young I'm sure u know this tho. Best wishes. Thanks for reminding me about the bakinsoda trick I heard that about glue and bakinsoda but didn't think to use it on the porcelain big help just til maintenance can get me a new toilet Monday (it's sat)
Truthfully, I still haven't replaced my toilet and it's been years now. No leak yet. That'll be my next big project.
@@VanDamArtisan saves it from time being, from goin in landfill makes me a bit happier imo luckily I get one free and doesn't come outa my pocket.
I pay fair rent. And pay every month guaranteed. Lucky I can fix it for a few and not have to call anyone on their days& weekends off since it's not a 911.
its realy work i just have fix my toillet by using glue and baking soda its relly work im from seychelles❤❤❤❤❤❤ thanx for sharing the vedios
I'm glad it worked for you! It's a lot cheaper than a new toilet.
very effective.
Pro tip: when your son “notices” something. They definitely broke it.
Nice!
I am definitely in agreement! I'm watching this video now because one of my sons just did the same thing 😆
*little brother
@@BlaxkSun More like, "little brother" followed by every kid in the house fiercely denying it to the point of meltdowns!
Lol
What I've also done is spray flex seal over the crack on the inside of the tank. Seems to work really well, and you don't have to worry about the outside so much. You're seriously gonna remodel that whole bathroom though? It doesn't look older than 10 years.
Yeah. We already did one of the bathrooms and this bathroom is the last thing needed in the entire main floor. Everything else is in white and gray so it doesn't really match. Plus the tile is bottom dollar, as is the flooring and it's the master bathroom.
Not older than 10 years........
In the 90's!
3m marine sealer 5200
THANKS. YOU DID A GREAT JOB ON THE ZOMBIE TOILET. LOL
Thanks. I'll tell my boy.
is there a white epoxy glue you can recommend for a hairline crack on my bran new toilet?
I'd try fixing it from the inside. There are porcelain repair kits for tubs that could work.
@@VanDamArtisan thanks. The toilet is BRAND new from American Standard. We just had it installed yesterday. We noticed the hairline crack last night. We were wondering if we should call American Standard and demand a refund or replacement. Their brochure says they won't cover replacements. I'm wondering if we should even bother replacing it and just fixing the crack! We are pissed:)
I'd call the installer and tell them to have it replaced. They shouldn't be installing broken anything.
night of the living toilets! thanks man!
Thank you for watching!
Never thought I'd see a hair dryer in a toilet!
One of these days I'll buy a heat gun.
I accidentally broke the tank lid and there’s no way I’m telling my parents lol..so here I am looking for videos on how to fix it🤦🏽♀️
Don't grind off any of the porcelain, just grind it from the bottom. Hopefully it'll fit back together nice and tight.
@@VanDamArtisan Okay, thank you!
lol😅😅😅😅😅
American Standard has lifetime warranty! Same thing happened to my tank and they sent me a new one for free!
@@BlastedBilly that's nice to know, now that I paid for a new one...
@@VanDamArtisan lol maybe it'll save you some money in the future!
@BlastedBilly Hi there. My American Standard toilet is 2 years new. What would be my 1st step to fix my leak in my toilet? I live alone, and I'm not handy.
@@joanglover3437 someone commented that American standard has life time warranties. Check on that and you may get a new one free. If you fix the crack, it's not completely necessary to grind it open. Just make sure it's clean and dry and get super glue that's as runny as possible. I'd suggest a couple coats with just glue before you include any making soda, just to be sure it gets as deep as possible.
Does silicone sealant work instead of glue
I wouldn't recommend it just because it's flexible so it might allow the crack to get worse, but it is water proof and would work if the crack doesn't get worse.
Just noticed my toilet has an identical crack last night. How necessary would you say the carving part is
It's probably not essential but it helps the glue go all the way in.
And is it still working fine?
Yeah, no problems so far
FANTASTIC VIDEO ! How long did you wait for the Cyanoacrylate glue to dry before you filled the tank with water? And can you reveal the brand of Cyanoacrylate glue you used? BIG THANKS
It dried pretty much immediately but I waited an hour just in case. I believe it was the gorilla brand glue that I used.
Superglue
Another fix, cement a 4x4 ceramic tile over the crack on the inside of the tank to stop the crack from spreading. then spray the crack on the inside of the tank with spray rubber.
That's a good idea
Did it work?
Heck yes it did!
@@VanDamArtisan im having the same problem on the same spot thanks for the video!
@@Gimmekiss-ix1hh good luck. It started to slightly sweat through after over a year, but it worked perfect for a while. Long enough to get a new toilet.
He’s Too Cute!!! “Zombie toilet.” Great Video.
Thanks. He's a pretty funny little guy. I wish I could catch half of what he says on film. I'd have a million subscribers by now.
Thanks for advice on a cracked toilet cistern. It happened to my 25years old toilet today same kind of crack i only had Tetrion sealant in so I’ve use that hoping it works, then I can turn water back on. My housing association won’t class it as an emergency repair don’t see why when I’ve had to turn water off at stop cock.
Hope it works out for you
Dear, which glue use to repair this, do you provide glue name
Cyanoacrylate. Brand names include "super glue", "Krazy glue", or "gorilla glue".
thanks mate. been thinking of doing this but with silicone sealer... im probably doing it for something more in the long run, crack is in the back. did you think about that before ? would you think that may be able to go on some more years?
Yeah, I think it will hold up for a long time. The ceramic toilet is very porous and sucks the glue in and makes a solid connection, especially if you add the baking soda.
I won't be doing this but love the concept # zombie toilet 😂😂😂 I'm going to try the magic flex seal 😮😮😮
Good luck!
Its been two years how the toilet holding up?
We finally replaced it, but it lasted over a year.
@@VanDamArtisan so it did start leaking again? Im thinking about using jb weld.
@@leo959 Yeah, slowly. It was almost like it was sweating through the glue or something. Jb weld should work well.
one of our daughter's moronic 'but knows everything' friend came over and broke our toilet tank. Classy
That's pretty obnoxious
Cant we used silicone?
@@Moneymagnetmom yes but it's much more flexible and may not stay bonded as well.
How is the tank fix holding up? Still not leaking?
No leak whatsoever
Great idea here, many thanks. I was going to seal my cracked cistern with putty but now think I'll glue it first then putty up the interior.
Good luck to you! Hope it all works out.
My little boy noticed the same crack in our toilet, lol he won’t admit it but I know he slammed that seat up, he is so rough on everything
Yeah, I wonder if mine didn't crack in the same way. At least he showed me before it flooded everything though.
Thanks bro.. really helpful.. and really worked..
Thanks again👍
Right on! Thanks for watching
Wow.. like instant reply..
I'm quick.... Sometimes
How do you spell the name of the glue?
Cyanoacrylate. It's super glue or Krazy glue. Gorilla has a version as well.
How does this compare to j-b weld product?
In this application, I think j b weld would be too thick to run into the crack completely.
The kid's remark was awesome i would totally paint it like a zombie.
Yeah, he's pretty funny. I should've at least painted stitches on it.
@@VanDamArtisan lol. And maybe epoxy 2 bolts on the sides of the tank. Then you could say. "I gotta go see Frank." Btw this inspired me to fix my toilet that was brokrn where it bolts to the floor. I used the clear epoxy... It worked great.
Good. That's a lot cheaper and cleaner than buying a new one.
What drill bit did you use on this job?
It was a diamond tip bit.
@@VanDamArtisan cheers!
It is quite a gamble to fix a cracked tank than to just replace the toilet. If you leave for the weekend and the tank were to shatter or spring a huge leak, the water would run for the whole time you are gone. Your house would be quite a wet mess. But if you have good home owners insurance you can then repair/remodel your whole house.
Yes, I would definitely consider this a temporary fix. It did last for over a year though, and then it started to sweat through the crack.
Your "ugly" bathroom is my remodeled bathroom. Stay humble.
I think you're being too hard on yourself. My only real problem with the bathroom is the vanity and tile selections. Super cheap finishes. They photograph better than they actually are.
Is it still holding up to this day, someone at mine just cracked the tank on mine 🤦♂️
Yes, still holding strong. I was actually quite surprised by how strong the bond was
I payed so much money like 3 years ago to get a new tank from a random company I found online😭😭 I just needed something done quick before my parents came home 😂 but oh well now I know
That's funny, but also sad
wow! great video...lol... thanks
Thanks
Please can you list all the items, I want to fix the cracks myself. It’s expensive getting in a plumber.🙏🏽
I think I just glue and baking soda
Correct. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and baking soda.
I will fix it for u
Please I need your help is there a way I can email you these pictures, I want to see if I need to buy a whole new toilet. Money is tight and I just need a professional opinion. I would greatly appreciate it
Yeah, what's your email address. I'll send you a message.
Thanks
You're welcome
Thank you so much for this!
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Once it cracks and you’re not home the water will flood your whole house.
How did it crack mate? Did something hit the tank?
I have no idea. Probably a flaw from manufacturing. It just started leaking one day.
@@VanDamArtisan That's why here in India we prefer either plastic flush tanks or wall concealed flush tanks. These porcelain, ceramic tanks are just too sensitive.
I agree. Very brittle.
Seems to me that it would be better if you did it from the inside rather than the outside of the tank since the inside of where the water would enter the crack.
For sure. I did it from both sides but it was impossible to film the inside.
@@VanDamArtisan I came here because my old toilet tank cracked as I was tightening the bolts to keep the tank from wobbling. The toilet is 50 years old. So, I just want to do a temporary fix with a silicone sealant until I can get another toilet. I need a new anyway because these old toilets are slow to flush and take entirely too much water to flush.
@@denniscarey8426 good luck! I had another one that broke. One of the bolts rusted out completely and just fell on the ground. Now it leaks. Fun stuff.
What kinda glue u used
Gorilla medium ca glue
@@VanDamArtisan thank u
@@VanDamArtisan can u use flex seal does that work as well?
@@drillmusik0286 it's worth a shot. I haven't tried that myself.
@@VanDamArtisan thank u I bough the gorilla glue is actually working thanx 😊
I’ve got a very thin hairline crack too, less noticeable than yours. The plumber suggested a new cistern. I never thought about how it could be easily repaired. Why is almost every trades person on the take, dishonest and trying to get as much money as possible. Does no one have integrity anymore. Great job by the way, you can buy ceramic paint to lessen the crack visibility.
I wish there was more honesty in trades. It sure makes it difficult for the honest ones.
Also because plumber wants repair to last for years and have no come back, fix it again for free as your last bodge failed again when I touched it and or flushed loo!
@@MrGordoncooper More lies, dishonest again, you can buy ceramic filler stronger than the cistern. Make your children and parents PROUD of you.
Exact same way you encase lead on home made fishing lures
adding the baking soda is essential otherwise this would fail.
Yes, most likely.
@@VanDamArtisan but then I was reading about the 'gorilla glue' gel - and they claim it would work without it - what do I know LOL - that's the product I bought so we shall see
Good luck. I trust the baking soda more. You can use it with the gel too
It’s definitely a zombie toilet, cracked but won’t die… 😂😂😂😂
Definitely agree
I wonder as a dress up, if the White Porcelain touch up paint would make the outside crack look less noticable ?
🤔.....?
Probably. It's pretty obvious as is. .... By the way, it lasted for over a year but it's finally leaking again.
Not going to toilet on the top when you’re sitting on it
I don't think I would have been comfortable leaving the water switched on, if it goes properly while you're not home then you've got the water trying to fill and flooding the house, just find a second hand toilet to replace it with until you do the refurbishment.
I ended up buying a new one, but this got me through for a while
Not working
My son broke the toilet several years ago in the morning didn't tell anyone. The whole time water is pouring down threw floor, threw the ceiling into our kitchen!!!!
That's horrible
Or just use flex tape and call it a day

Fixed with baking soda an super glue..
@1:00 just siphon the shit out
Zombie
My cistern cracked, I would gladly buy a new one, but where I live, they are unavailable, you have to buy a complete toilet set, 😠I brought some ceramic two mix resin, it is crap, dries like chalk. useless stuff, and your supposed to roughen the surface, an impossible task so far.
Zombie toilet hahaha
What a genius ....gluing a $60 toilet (since it s old it s even worth less) and still has a visible crack.....!!!
I think you're missing the point, but that's fine. Watch it a few more times and let me know when you catch on.
You're arms are flipping ginormous, by the way. Maybe spend more time reading and less time lifting or something.
The toilet may be even worth $30, but are you ready to pay the charges of a new toilett? Around $200, or pay for the removing and installing a new toilet for how much?
Not a twenty minute fix?? No one can move that fast literally
If it's white in colour ,don't waste your life . Take it out the back and break it up and buy a new one .
I did eventually
I'm trying to repair a toilet cistern, which is Pergamon in colour . It's s discontinued . I have tried CT silicon inside etc .stuck plastic . It's still leaking. Thinking about bitumen. Trouble with my design of toilet. The water comes in at the bottom . The two stupid bolts which they connect to the pan is another stupid ,stupid, stupid design . I'm considering buying one of those one piece toilets ,where the pan and cistern are one . I have a lot of patients, but it's beginning to run out .
@@richardevans3253 yeah, I bet it is. Dealing with leaks is hard. I wish I was better at it.
Very nice video...but why couldn't you simply state what glue you used? The scientific name sounds cool, but what's wrong with saying, "I used this brand, which I purchased at this place?"
Krazy glue or super glue.
@@VanDamArtisan Thank you. Sorry for my snippy attitude.
Why in the fuck would one film this
4 fun
thanks
