Based off of the title, I was expecting a yardsale, but you not only handled that very well, you stomped a BIG cliff at the end there!! Good work man. Glad you took it safe up top. I can see why they call it Hanging Bowl. Literally hanging off the precipice lol.
Way to ride that out. Been there. Not a comfortable feeling to say the least. One day, if you make it to old age, you will look back at this moment with love in your heart and feel satisfied knowing that you lived it.
@@EatsLikeADuck I think you misunderstand. I wasn’t commenting on the old age. I’m saying that this drop and ride out in the video isn’t that gnarly. It wasn’t a life or death situation. It’s not really that challenging of terrain for accomplished skiers… hence the melodramatic comment.
Holy shit. I know that feeling. When you literally can't set an edge or you will die and you just need to let it rip I've never had it happen that bad though!
I'm impressed with the limits being pushed by today's extreme skiers. It's an entirely different sport than 50+ years ago when I started skiing. Hope they are wearing helmets on terrain like this. Snowbird and the other areas in the SLC canyons are some of the best skiing on the planet. Great stuff!
@@davez5201 You'd be surprised. The body can handle a lot of tumble on snow, and a certain amount of ice and rock. But you smack that same ice or rock with a bare head and what might have been scarring or breakage becomes disablement or death. That's why smart skiers wear helmets ... always!!!
@@davez5201 A helmet will definitely mitigate the extent of injury to both skull and brain, even in these circumstances. With a helmet on, brain injury is less of a risk than neck or spinal injury. Some of the cliffs at snowbird are no joke. me and my brother had a similar experience. looking for a double, ended up looking over a 70 foot drop into a rock face. hiked all the way back up.
You skied that phenomenally! You should be proud of yourself. That cliff was nothing small and you stomped it! If anything that should be a confidence booster
😂😮😂 - been there…done that too. Way to hold your composure in that moment…coulda been a serious wipeout and worse. No worries…you’re good. Just know that we wouldn’t be caught dead doing that.
That's a good camera you've got there, I could actually tell how steep that was. Nice cliff huck too, I once got near a cliff and wasted fifteen minutes climbing back up the slope in the middle of a snowstorm. Kudos to you for not being a coward like me, you even made the jump look easy.
Turn shapes and preparation were great, just goes to show you cant always help the speed getting away with you. You held it together well pointing down the hill.
Sick video haha, I know the feeling when you get going way faster than you expected and cant really cut an edge because the gound is so beat up. way to ride!!!
Nice landing. Looked like you had it the whole way through. But could tell by how long it took you to slow down that you weren't exactly in your comfort zone. The 'Christ. Holy shit!' helped too.
Nice Job, u crushed it ! There's so many cliffs at the BIRD. LOL, not a mountain you wanna make wrong turns at going high speed...you'll end up 50-75 feet airborne
To clarify the intention was to ski out of the drop in a controlled manner and to possibly link more drops into the line after that to the side. When I landed I lost control and had no choice but to pin it to the flats. Would I have died if I lost control straight lining? Probably would have hurt but nah I didn't almost die, I also never expected this video to get more than 100 views.
@@henryzakowski5385 most riders know the feeling when you get to that level, ignore the haters, been there a few times where all you think is death is imminent once you realize there's no stopping haha. Great run and glad you rode it out safe.
many henry- that was like a turbo kicked in at 0:51 and you were a long for the ride. Same exact thing happened to me when skiing a bowl for the first time at Vail, Co. I didn't gauge it (shadows) and shot the bottom of the bowl- huge mistake. Hit about Mach 2- eventually did a huge yard sale. Must have rolled 10 times. One ski stayed on- true miracle that I didn't tear up my leg/knees. Ski on terrain that is at your skill level...that includes knowing some terrain is mixed, rocky and icy. Imagine if you ran into someone below you- all bad news. I was an instructor out West and saw some bad things. Have fun but do ski safe and wear a helmet!
Disclaimer: I'm watching this at work and can't hear the audio. I have two questions, 1) I'm looking through the comments and it seems like he had no choice but to gun it down without edging. Why didn't he just edge a little bit to slow down? and, 2) would this be handled differently on a snowboard?
God damn bruh had something like this happen to me in fernie was so steep and I was going to fast in about the 2 feet of pow couldn’t turn and I didn’t wanna just go on my side so I just sent that bih after an about 8 foot drop lmaooo

Lol I was fully ready to make fun of your cautious approach until you pointed them straight down and reached terminal velocity hahaha. That was a bit fast man.
After jumping that cliff, my mans couldn’t stop cause he was already going to fast so he just ripped it out instead ! (Pretty much the only thing he could do as well or else it would of been catastrophic)

Love that you did it in typical Icebird conditions vs during the 5mins of powder at the beginning of the day.
“Holy shit that was hot!” I love the commentary after the run. That was legit.
YT randomly showing these crazy ski videos... and they are like my new favorite thing
what makes this all the more impressive is just how well the gent handled it in pretty poor snow conditions

There is no more "control" when going light speed in these snow conditions. You have to pin it.
Crazy good. I think many ppl dont realize how much more difficult and spicy this was given the snow conditions on that day.
Probably the cleanest accidental drop I've ever seen
