    You didn't show video with the IBIS only! Or IBIS plus e-stabilisation. We don't all have OIS lenses.

    Very helpful video. Have just switch to the S5 having used Sony on and off for last 4 years including A7iii. Features of this camera seem to fit my filming and landscape photography better. Most complain about the auto focus but even with all the Sony's I used I would film using manual so no love lost there. Atb

  • @MichaelSchagen

    If I understood your examples right, none of them showed the effectiveness of IBIS without any OIS, right? OIS certainly seems to be effective and electronic improves a bit further.
    By enabling Boost IS you are essentially telling the camera that you do not intend to make a panning or tilting motion. This allows it to stabilize more aggressively, but then you should indeed not try to pan or tilt. It's a function that has been available on their camcorders for quite some time already.

    • @JoshCameron
      @JoshCameron  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With everything off, you'd be looking at just the sensor shift stabilisation I believe as I don't think you can turn that off.
      Yeah exactly! Boost IS is designed for the static shot and not moving shot, but I just wanted to demonstrate for those who were wondering how it'd perform for other types of shots!
      Thanks for watching, Michael!

    • @MichaelSchagen
      @MichaelSchagen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JoshCameron You can also turn ibis off. It's where you can specify the stabilization mode (normal, panning, panning vertical, panning horizontal or off) I'm guessing the english terminology here. I've been told the IBIS is actually still turned 'on' when set to off mode, as the construction requires power to try to keep the sensor in a fixed position relative to the camera body, but it will no longer try to counteract your motions.

    • @slappop7082
      @slappop7082 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshCameron Normal IBIS on its own provides 5 stops of stabilization. With a stabilized lens, it provides 6.5 stops. You can also turn it off (where the sensor is locked in place and there's no active stabilization). IBIS works great with non-stabilized lens; I use only vintage, manual lenses with it (Nikkor, Carl Zeiss ZF and Leica M) and the IBIS is absolutely marvelous. It's the killer feature of this camera for me.

    From this video S5 IBIS seems to be weak. Image is only stable due to lens stabilization (any camera without IBIS works fine with stabilized lenses). Did you forgot to test camera IBIS on it's own or there are no option to switch it off? (I'm not talking about electronic stabilization - which has nothing to do with IBIS and it's all about cropping image)

    • @memzTV

      I'm wondering about IBIS by itself. I also have the S5 and on pictures IBIS has been the best in my opinion for a full frame camera. I haven't tried videos yet. I should. haha

    Hi Josh,I have one question for you and I am hoping I will get an answer. I love IBIS of M43,G85 .In 2020 I have a chance to test it and I love so much.But that was of my friend who sold it. I am a Nikon DX DSLR shooter for video with d7200. I shoot in low light mainly stage shows at schools and colleges. My DX Nikon's ISO 3200 fulfill low video shoot requirement but lack IBIS. Sometimes tripods and monopods I can't use on stage and down stage as per situation so handheld is a must. Don't want to use gimbal. Want to use GH5II with video features and amazing IBIS.Can GH5 and GH5II fulfill my iso needs without noise or very less noise to shoot low light video with matching Nikon dx iso 3200 level with Panasonic IBIS in manual mode and that is my question? I hope you understand and please excuse for my poor explanation. It will help me in purchasing better next camera. Thank you Josh.S5 is not in my budget and lenses are expensive and but M43 -GH5,GH5II is in my budget. It is hard to get camera for testing here at my location unless anyone owns. So, your experience and answer matters. IBIS and ISO upto Nikons level of iso 3200 are my main requirements.Thank you.

    • @JoshCameron
      @JoshCameron  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Neeraj, thank you for your comment. If IBIS is really important to you then the M43 cameras will be a fantastic choice for you. I would actually recommend the G9 as well if you haven't already looked at that?
      ISO 3200 should be fine on the Micro Four Thirds body, but it just depends on how focussed the light is on the scene. If you're shooting stage shows then chances are the lighting will be on the subject and therefore the main focus won't be that noisy; it'll just be the darkness surrounding that will be.
      Of course, you can grab some very fast glass for the GH5/GH5ii/G9 as well, at a price though.
      If you could extend your budget to the S5 then that would be far better for lowlight, but the IBIS in the cameras you mentioned would be a little better I would have thought :)
      Hope this helps!

    Just wanted to seek your suggestions please.
    While shooting on Lumix S5, which colour profile do you use?
    What's the recommended profile for photography and video?
    I got to understand that the base ISO and higher ISO values vary based on the colour profile (as told by Lumix India support team).
    I presumed it was ISO 640 and ISO 4000 for all modes, but just wanted to know from your experience, if there's any difference by colour profile 🙂
    Cheers from Bangalore, India ✨💫

    Something I think I'll test is using E-Stab on the S5 and then throwing some Warp Stab in Premiere on to the clip to see if it gives is that smidge extra stab it needs to eliminate the need for a gimbal. Thoughts?

    • @JoshCameron
      @JoshCameron  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this would work fine for very small push ins and pullouts, but wouldn't be as good if you're planning to move the camera across quite a large area (like walking for example). You may get a bit of funkiness happening with the Warp Stab!

    Thanks Josh - really helpful.
    The walking clips with the e-stabalisation and OIS are very impressive. I thought you were using a gimbal. If this camera had good AF wow it would be all you need.
    with the panning clips do you use e-stabalisation

      Yeah it’s crazy how good it is! I didn’t use E Stabilisation for the panning shots, just OIS and of course the sensor stabilisation!

      @@JoshCameron thanks Josh - so difficult for me to decide at the moment - Im set in buying a R6 (Im Nikon at present) but that stabalisation really looks handy

      @@markshirley01 I know a few people that have got the R6 and regretted it once they’ve tried my S5… so much so that they’re trying to get the S5 now instead… but that’s just down to personal preference I guess! That’s my two cents from what I know either way :D
      Hope whatever you choose ends up being the best for you!

      @@JoshCameron What about the AF that everyone talks about? When shooting, the AF is not consistently sharp. Why do so many people love this camera when there are so many AF issues?

      @@JoshCameron thanks Josh - is the 20-60 kit lens worth having - its a very hand range especially the 20mm for interior exterior etc

    No stabilisation…vs lens, e stabilisation or IS boost..? Did you forget the fact that this camera has IBIS…?

    • @JoshCameron
      @JoshCameron  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't forget that - the IBIS can't be switched off on the S5, so it's a constant throughout :)
