Ps to clarify the avocado reference, I am VERY allergic to them . The world’s most ironic allergy for a fitness channel I know. My body loves gluten & diary, but put me near a 🥑 and you’re driving me to the hospital haah

FINALLY another person who is good with gluten and dairy, they are not poison! Quite the opposite -- bring on the sourdough bread and kefir or cottage cheese! I just found your channel and am liking it very much -- hopefully you'll do some of your skincare products, hair health and diet. Those are never boring and very motivating!

I am also allergic to avocados and it makes it hard when they are always mentioned as one of the best healthy fats.

Latex allergy? Avocados are one of the foods that cross react.

One of my “delayed dopamine” routines that has worked for me is scheduling the 1 night a week that I get take out to be Sunday night. I do a lot of my chores on Sunday to prep for the week ahead, including my grocery shopping, and by that night I have no motivation left to cook and wash dishes. So looking forward to takeout keeps me motivated and less stressed about all the stuff I have to do that day, and I save money by eating the things I cook the rest of the week but still getting to enjoy restaurant food on a scheduled plan/budget.

This sounds like a good idea. It's a shame the restaurants in my area are often closed on Sundays.

Holy shit this sounds like an AMAZING idea. I have band rehearsal on Sundays along with taking care of my kids during the day beforehand. After rehearsal we pick up the kids and clean the house. I often make a big dinner but leave the kitchen a MESS for Monday because as relaxing as it is to finally sit and eat I still have the kitchen anxiety. Hmmmmmm. I am going to try your method and while the food is coming I will take a shower and relish in my clean home. THEN eat the awesome takeout food and all we have to do is clean up the bags and napkins. I'm SO going to try this for this upcoming Sunday! Thankyou for sharing!

We love the Huberman stuff. It's backed by great studies and research, and it's nice to hear him share his findings. But it's even better when someone like yourself actually puts it in practice and reports back. Ultimately, do what you like and motivates you. We appreciate all your content.

Every Monday on my lunch time I have scheduled happiness. I go and deliver meals to elderly shut ins with no family. It’s not just dropping off food it’s making sure that someone has checked on them that day. It’s humbling. And I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to figure out who benefits more. In a world of bad news it shifts my focus to getting to make a little good news.
Best “life hack” advice ever. Volunteer on something that you think makes your world a little better. You get to see other people actively working on creating positive change. It doesn’t have to be a big time commitment but don’t just write a check- be present.

I've started my dance workouts channel and so excited when a single person is subscribing😅 and people around sounds like “emm, it's even not a 100/day”.

I feel the need (aggressively) to protect my morning coffee routine because I've found that it is the actual thing I look forward to when waking up in the morning, and if I'm doing a "coffee detox" (usually if I've had stomach issues or too much anxiety), I legitimately don't even want to get up. It's sad in a way, but in another way... why can't we have little micro-pleasures to look forward to and to make every day, ordinary life enjoyable (or tolerable)?
I definitely struggle with this as a chronically low-dopamine person - when I do a dopamine detox to reset, I'm actually forcing myself to live below the average person's baseline because I tend to not "shoot up" on much dopamine triggers the way the average person does anyway. Cheesy to point out, but that's why balance is the real goal - because balance will look different to each person and their unique experience.
The one dopamine detox I regularly exercise is music dieting - I'll do podcasts instead of music for a week or two when I notice that I'm not even enjoying my favorite music. It works every time! When I turn my faves back on, they are way more stimulating (in a good way) - I can tell by if my body dances without consciously choosing to :)
Thanks for always making a great motivational or thought-provoking video Keltie! And you go ahead and enjoy that morning cuppa joy!

balancing it out sometimes comes from being so bored with social media that you take a break to just for the peace of brain space (another dopamine hit) I don't mean anything as structured as meditation but just small simple singular activities

    Three little words.
    !!!!!Rescue more huskies!!!!
As a recovering addict(18 years clean) Achieving any feeling(s) was initially a challenge. I'm prob one of the only people in my inner circle who does not have the tic tack or Twitter/X. For me, I have to good fortune to dedicate my days and nights to the husky pack. Right now that is it's own challenge as my eldest is going into her final times on this rock. Getting the happy vibe takes work sometimes, but is so worth it in the end.
    Stay amazing !

Might sound like dated advice but i remember the good ole days (such as the 90's and first 10 yr's of the 2000's lol) before smart phones, imagine if we went back to using side-kicks and flip phones. Fun fact, casinos, "substances", tik-tok, and po*n all get folks addicted using the same instant gratification method (hence the addictions) tik-tok is actually currently being legislated here in the US to be banned.... at the end of the day just putting the phone away and finding contemptment (as you mentioned at the 13:00 mark), or better yet, gratitude would be better (Some gym bro's after awhile hop on "juice" usually do to that "never be satisified attitude).... btw unrelated but thanks for answering that question on shift work in your podcast, as my job makes anything "routine-wise" basically impossible

Nothing against the guy, big Mr. H…. Just a small note that many scientists actually did not hear about him or did but just chuckle at the references. And i say it as a scientist myself. He is just a human being doing his best as he can.

Good content, very insightful. Although a bit of working on delivering the message would be nicer, like putting stress on each word and talking clearly, not necessarily slower.

No offense but that apartment is very dopamine deprived, the bright LED lights and neutrals would lower my dopamine,it needs more color and warm tones like wood or warmer light!

*Unfortunately, a lot of this is hocus pocus. So I am going to tell you how to fix your dopamine.*
    First, the problem:
Why does this happen to us? It is the human condition. We humans are extremely adaptable. We adapt to something and make it into the norm faster than any other living creature on earth. So, for example. I pinch your hand. You say ow, and you tell me the pain scale for example is 5/10. For the next few days, I keep doing the same thing, over and over and you will notice that the pain scale is not a 5 any more. It's dropping down to 4, 3 etc... You are adapting to the norm. The same thing works with lifting weights. The body recognizes you are putting a lot of effort to work certain muscles and sends signals to repair and strengthen said muscles to adapt to the situation, making you grow in strength. The same thing happens to something positive. You eat something sweet like a kitkat and go "Yeah, it's alright. It's a Kitkat." You had many kitkats before. You had many chocolates before. You're used to this and give it a 4/10. Now, watch on youtube to some tribes in africa who never had chocolate have a kitkat for the first time. They are blown away by the taste and give it a 9/10. Their 10/10 is your 4/10.
So let's think about this for a moment. If your standard of dopamine is very high. It becomes impossible for you to achieve it because your baseline of dopamine that you are used to, is incredibly high.
    Now.
    The solution:
You don't "restart" your dopamine. However... You do Lower your dopamine standard to a new norm. How does that happen? Hardship. For every living being on earth, and us up until the industrial revolution, hardship lead to success and a dopamine reward. From something as simple as going and hunting for your food. So your first order of business, is to start limiting things that induce joy. Things like, sweets, video games, relaxation, music etc... And you introduce more physical hardship into your life, something controlled and not dangerous. Have you ever been outside a few hours when it's cold and you were wet or dirty, you step inside and take a long hot shower and it's amazing? It's just a hot bath, but at the time being, it's so good. Here's one thing you can try.
Do an hour of Cardio and medium intensity, not weight lifting, cardio. Make sure you have cooked HEALTHY food prepared ahead of time that's warm. Once you finish your cardio, jump in, take a shower (Hot or cold, whatever you prefer). Jump out of the shower, wear CLEAN comfortable clothing, like PJs. Sit down and watch something light hearted like family guy and have your dinner.
I guarantee you'll feel great. You were miserable during that hour of cardio, but for the next 4 hours, you're gonna feel pretty good.
There's been studies of people who experience the most joy/laughter, are people who are going through military boot camp. Their conditions hard enough that the baseline for dopamine becomes very low. Anything over a 2/10 is joy. I did military boot camp and coming after work at 6pm to just shower, eat, and rest on my bunk was so joyful, I might as well have been on vacation in on a beach. We laughed over the stupidest jokes, and after boot camps, I rode a "high" unlike anything I have ever felt that I wanted to go through it all over again. That high is known as "PTGD", similar to PTSD, but positive.
    TLDR:
Too much of a good thing, is bad.
