Thank you for your service sir. My uncle, PFC Hugh Clement of Greensboro NC fought at the Bulge. I don't know how you fellows survived, the weather was just as dangerous as the German army. He passed about 20 yrs ago. Once again, thank you so much.
My father's uncle served in an artillery unit. He killed himself at end of war. He had severe infury that was painful. My dad never met him. My grandma hated war having lost her brother. I am happy you are still alive and able to live life, write beautiful stories
Thank you for your service Mr. Martin. My grandfather was with c battery, 14th armd arty, CCB , 2nd armored division from 1942 to 1945. His battery was surrounded for a day and 1/2 during the bulge. I think around Humain. But they broke out. Their M7 was blowed up during the bulge around Houffalitze. A german arty round hit the rear while they were moving it. 4 guys on the corners were out holding the camouflage net out of the tracks. A couple guys were slightly wounded, but all survived. They were Very lucky. You guys really are " The greatest generation ". This country was lucky we had men like you. God bless you Sir. 🇺🇸 Salute. 🇺🇸
Pretty cool. My Grandpap was also there from start to finish. He left the states with 2nd armored in 1942, and came home with 2nd armored at wars end in 1945. He landed at Casablanca in operation Torch, North Africa, Sicily, landed on Omaha about noon D Day, day 1, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, and met the russains on the Elbe. The Greatest Generation describes these men well. 😁
I did 5 years in the marines and 4 months ago I had to bury one of my best friends. When you loose someone it’s like a piece of your soul disappears with them. STAY STRONG WARFIGHTERS AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! SEMPER FI!!!
Thank you for your service! My father was a navy surgeon during WW2 in the Pacific on Guam & Okinawa he never spoke about it unfortunately. Thanks to you all for our freedom !👏👏👏👏🍾🍾🍾
I had an uncle die on the last day of that battle. Only my grandpa lived after, but never spoke a word of it. He passed away a few years ago at 100. Miss and love him.
Thanks Sarge. My Dad was in the Mighty Eighth. His best buddy was a Timberwolf. I got taught how to survive in the air as well as the ground. Lord I miss those guys. Peace to you and yours.
God Bless this young Man ! my grandpa did this as a black 88 pursuit from north Africa to first trucking company over the rieghn River into Dakua !! lamp shades of human flesh !! he said we could smell the place 3 miles away !!
Thank you for sharing something that you have probably have tried to stuff away and never talk about it. I know that my grandpa was in the Air Force and in combat that I know of from Korea to several others in the French war. I been told by my one Aunt she wasn't his blood daughter but there was 4 and they all stayed in touch with him but the youngest one who's 74 now because she was told my other grandmother was her dad and he raised her and spoiled her and raised my mom too but from what I can tell from pictures my mom was a Shirley Temple perfect look alike and was always dressed proper. They were raised together and my grandfather remarried and had one more daughter and his second wife already had a little girl who is the oldest and still alive buried her first 3 sons and for some reason she got access to my grandfathers military records and he was a very brave man. Since he was so short 5'7" he was the one who was shooting out of the rear turant gun I believe it is called and was captured on purpose to get to the POW's in the German camps. Just like that show Horgan's heros. They played with the Germans come and go as the had to. Im not supposed to know this stuff I found out. But my Aunt was arrested for being able to brech the government and received copies of all his deployments and missions. He never said a word about the wars i believe in the middle of the 40's or before, he did have one major flashback of his plane being shot down and that's how he become a spy for the USA and done a fine job. But he was turning the TV channel and saw a Chinese war movie playing and watched the Chinese plane get shot down from a American plane and wrecked the plane into one of our ships and he lost it like he was in the back of the plane trying to get the Chinese plane to blow up before it hit the Navy war ship It was a very intense moment for me and my son who visited him every Sunday. He felt bad afterwards and made us promise never to tell the family. My son was 3 and I was 33 he's buried in Holly Michigan, I wasn't able to attend the funeral but I found the place that buried the American Veterans and he had full honors of several gun salutes I've got one of the shell. But I'm glad that the government gave him a proper funeral and a white cross for a headstone. That's the only place I seen pictures of with nothing but white crosses. I was in Upstate NY State very sick at the time and couldn't travel but I did the leg work on the computer to make sure he was taking care of. I will make it to Holly Michigan before I go and pay my respects. His name was Albert Tuley from Rochester NY, Air Force if anyone knows anything about him plese post it on here. I was told not to be my address or email address on the post. I'd love to hear more about the gunner who had the job on the back of the plane in a glass bubble it looked like to me. God bless everyone one of the Men who fought for our freedom and the Women who worked making sure our Men had uniforms and parachutes and boots etc who worked very hard to make it happen. Any story is appreciated and God bless you all love you, Fred from Upstate NY State.
A special interview. I will write Mr Martin a letter. What he said resonates with myself being 26 years old. I love this country and have the same values as Elmo Martin. He’s an inspiration and another hero of mine i look up to. I am immensely grateful that this interview happened with Mr Martin and that you shared his experience. Am going to meet an Army recruiter tomorrow, we will see what happens. My Great Grandmothers brother Joseph Rosdignol was killed in action at the Bulge, on Dec. 29th 1944, was 20 years old, serving in the 9th Armored Division. I have a large (183) letter collection by Captain William Feaster, Supply Co. 395th Infantry Regiment in the 99th Infantry Division, along with two photos and his National Guard Eisenhower jacket post war. Am looking to publish them as the letters contain a great perspective of an individual who served with the unit. They are well written and filled with detail of an officer’s experience. Am looking for someone help me get them published. Thank you again for sharing this interview, and God bless you for sharing this, Mr. Martin, as well all the men.
One of my favorite uncles Ralph Weldon Kennamer was captured in the Buldge. 29 years old with a wife and son at home in Woodville Ala. Spent 6 months in different pow camps/think the last was in Checkosavolki? Passed away in 1965. Kindest person you'd ever meet!
I am looking forward to receiving your book and enjoyed your comments. My father was a BAR man with the 99th Division/B/394th and was severely wounded by a shell in his foxhole and subsequently captured on the first day of the Bulge. His name was Raymond Shotts and he passed away in 1997. His foxhole buddy was Fred Henneke who was shot between the eyes just prior to my father being wounded. I think the death of Henneke bothered my father deeply the rest of his life.
Mr. Martin you are a great American and thank you for your service sir. You tell a good story and I'll bet your book is going to be pretty good. I hope your dream comes true and God bless you.
I’m retired military. One of my best friends (also retired) committed suicide 6 years ago. We had some great times and some hard ones. He was an amazing human and I loved him like a brother. I still hurt thinking about him. RIP Dave Martin, I hope we see each other again.😢

The bed in the building he was using to sleep on was blown to splinters by a direct enemy shell hit. Direct hit right into the bed. He wasn't in it. "How lucky can you get" He resorted to tying a hand grenade to a tree and running a wire to the pin to pull it out to stop enemy coming out to kill them, because they stuck them out in the front outpost the minute they got to the front line facing the entire nazi army on the Segried Line as new green replacements.

Question, Sir Martin mentioned to order the book from him directly to receive a signed copy, does that just mean order from amazon or do i need to mail to a specific address, i thought the address in the comments is for letters? If someone could let me know. Thanks in advance, God bless!
I got a buddy who always carried his US Army spoon in his back pocket, hes a cook in the military. I'm sure he'd find that part of the story at the log pile rather vindicating!
It was a war, men die at the hands of other men. I hope your question is asked because you truly would like to know how these men lost their lives as informational to you, not in some negative connotation. This veterans experience is like many thousands of others. They should never be forgotten, and applauded every day.
This guy has spent 80 years suppressing every emotion hes had as men of this vintage were expected too the fact he almost cries talking about his friend with 2 kids shows just how fucking terrible it is.
