  • The Leica M3 was a real revolution in 1954. Can it keep up with today's cameras or even surpass them? I take a look at this legend and find out if it is as good as its reputation.

    I've had my M3 since high school. Paid $250 for it. Canadian Summicron 35. Just recently ran a roll of Kodacolor through it, after it spent a long spell on the shelf. Still an amazing camera.

      Hey Jay. Thank you, since I'm taking pictures with film I'm slowly turning into a filmhipster 😀 Before I had no interest in cars but I have found pleasure in it. Since there is nothing going on in the city I have also discovered a nature for me. In the summer I will then certainly also make a M6 streetphotography tour with shiba. tripple soft spot 😆

    Super super presentation and pix, Daniel. I have a Voigtländer 21mm / 3.5 on my Sony a7II. It makes wonders. A 7/10 (barely!) camera with a 12/10 lens. I love the colors of my Ai-s lenses but Voigtländer has something special eventhough it is made in...Japan.... but the german quality is still there. Fantastic lens. Plan to buy more - when money will let me do it!

    I liked the later M2 better.
    I'm retired now and can't afford to buy one now.
    I make do very well with my Zorki 4k rangefinder with a sharp Jupiter 8 50mm f2 lens.
    It's all about lenses for me, and the Jupiter 8 is much better that the 50mm 2.8 collapsible Elmar I had on the M2 especially when I use Xp2.
    Nice photos of the old Healey car.

    Sir ; my Leica M3 is my favorite camera , even more so than my MA , the camera I have is Dual Stroke body ( large ears ) and single stroke and that is correct for the very early single stroke bodies. I have just collected a beautiful Summicron DR 50mm F2 , with goggles and matching numbers , and certificate , in original box, Rare set that .
    So .. I love my M3 too Sir.

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thansk, is mainly due to the micro and a few audio plugins. 😀 Why I shoot with film I can not answer briefly. Through the combination of higher degree of difficulty more discipline with the great old cameras results in the end I value the photos more emotionally. Events remain easier in the memory than digital photos. In addition, experimenting with different film stocks. I think I'll make a video about it 😀

    Hallo Daniel,
    Gestern bekam ich eine einmalige Gelegenheit eine unbenutzte M3 mit dem Summicron 50mm zu einem tollen Preis zu kaufen. Die Kamera funktioniert einwandfrei jedoch hat das Objektiv leichten Pilzbefall. Ich entscheid mich es trotzdem zu kaufen.
    Da du dich mit Leica schon länger beschäftigst, wollte ich fragen ob du vielleicht eine vertrauenswürdige Werkstatt kennst, die das Summicron vom Pilz befreien würde? Leica selbst macht das nicht mehr.
    Oder hast du villeicht ein Tipp dazu? Sollte ich mich selbst trauen das zu machen?

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh hey Robert, Glückwunsch zu deiner M3. Wenn das Objektiv Pilzbefall hat würde ich auch erstmal das ganze separat von der Kamera lagern da so etwas auch gern mal die Kamera befallen kann. 😅 Ich kann dir Amsterdam Camera Repair empfehlen. Dort hat jemand den ich kenne auch schon mal eine M3 reparieren lassen. Allerdings würde ich erstmal anfragen ob dort auch Pilzbefall beseitigt werden kann. Meine M3 ist ja jetzt schon länger defekt und ich würde sie dort hinschicken. Direkt zu Wetzlar würde ich auf keinen Fall empfehlen da dort die Reparaturkosten vermutlich den Preis der Kamera so übersteigen das es günstiger wäre sich einfach eine neue zu Kaufen😅

    Auf meiner M3 (1956, double Stroke) hab ich nicht das Nokton von Voigtländer f:1,5 sondern das echte 50mm f:2,8 von E. Leitz Wetzlar : die Bilder, die daraus entstehn sind von weitem nicht so klar, scharf und "definiert" wie die des Nokton f:1,5 ! Folgerung : enorme Fortschritte wurden seit 1956 vollbracht, und es ist an der Zeit, mir auch so ein "Glas" anzueignen, oder? Du arbeitest mit "Lichtmesser", ich leider mit "Sonne 16", das mir stets mehr auf den Geist geht! Ich brauche unendlich viel Zeit, um ein Bild zu knipsen : Verschluss, dann Geschwindigkeit, endlich manuelles Scharfstellen (dazu regelmässig unscharfe Bilder), und Knips! ..... prähistorisch! Es lebe der Fortschritt und die volle Automatik mit Autofokus! .... Hab ich Vorurteile ?

    • @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel
      @TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Das Nokton ist ja relativ neu und deswegen auch schlecht mit recht alten objektiven vergleichbar. Wie du schon sagtest ist technisch sehr viel passiert. Man muss ja sagen das Hersteller wie 7artisans oder TTartisans bessere objektive zu einen Bruchteil des Geldes herstellen kann. Aufstecklichtmesser gab es aber auch schon damals in den 1950ern für die M3 da musste man nicht nur Sunny 16 benutzen. :D Wenn du regelmäßig unscharfe Bilder hast dann lass mal den Messucher kalibirieren der verstellt sich nach Jahren schon mal. selbst bei modernen digital M. Fortschritt ist toll aber hat auch das fotografieren so vereinfacht das viele auch lieber mit alten Kameras fotografieren. allerdings gibt es für beides die richtige Situation.
