This is truly the best basenji channel for anyone who considers getting a basenji. You get a nice, truthful look at what basenji life is like, even though your dogs are far better trained than at least 99% of basenijs. 😂
I'm impressed by how brave your dogs are with the water! My oldest would NOT step on the wet sand.

thank you for the comments! ha ha, thats right, Oringo tries to avoid wet grass as much as he can. but they love running on the beach, and in that excitement temporarily "forget" that they hate wet surfaces 😄

Well done on introducing the dogs to new environments! I can see Ipy was so aroused that she couldn't take treats, mirroring Charlie's reaction during his first visit to the beach. Your Channel brings me comfort to know that I'm not alone in facing challenges with my Chisenji. In saying that, Charlie is improving with each passing day. They are an intelligent dog breed, brimming with mischievous charm. Where was that beach BTW?

thank you! yes, Ipy is very undersocialised as she was rescued at 1yo and then went through multiple surgeries so is restricted with walks. so she gets a bit nervous in all new environments, but still not too bad, better than I expected! that beach we went to is in Victoria, Australia, next to Phillip Island.
thank you for sharing, sounds like you are on the right track with Charlie!

thats fantastic! I know a couple of basenjis here that do swim. Unfortunately we dont go to the beach that often so mine didnt get that skill when they were puppies.

Why are using harness as allot of the time you use a normal collar leash ?

I know you didn't ask me, but harnesses are much safer. Studies have shown a dramatic number of dogs with hidden neck/back injuries, and the owners didn't even know their dog had been walking around in pain because they hide it. Any dog who pulls is risking damage to it's neck. You can see Ipy still pulls. A dog who lunges when it sees cats, birds or dogs is in even bigger danger of collar injuries. But even if the dog walks perfectly, all it takes is for you to trip or slip on icy ground once, and it can get a neck injury when the leash gets tight.
Collars can also do damage to the thyroid gland, and hypothyroidism is a huge problem in dogs, especially those who are neutered/castrated. It's one of the conditions you should keep an eye out for with basenjis.

thats right, I definitely prefer collar as it allows for much better communication with the dog. But Ipy is still recovering from surgery on her hips and knee, and her hind legs are quite unstable, so she must be more restricted and cannot run and pull. using harness on her makes it a bit easier to stop her if she goes too fast and is more gentle on her hind legs when I stop her, if that makes sense.

@@oringomakenabasenjitrainin6407 and would you use a collar on a puppy training for walking ? My puppy pulls very hard which results in chocking
