When I'm talking about walking since surgery, it's not mesc about pain or recovery - I've always struggled to be active, and before surgery I had managed to get myself into a very healthy place. It's been a real struggle to get back to that point in the year and a half since... Making videos has definitely helped!
WHo's happy? Jen's happy! And when Jen is happy she makes happy videos that make us happy! ❤
I think the weather was a bit too moist that day
The Newquay branch does look very run down compared with the other Cornish branches
Great video Jen my daughter spent three years at Falmouth University so we spent many happy times there - but have to agree when it rains it rains in Cornwall.
Great to see. Nature reclaiming the old road! Also what an another adorable branch again! Omg! GnomeWorld!?! That's so cool!
Great video Jen, this video was on par! Sadly those 'old bangers' you mentioned are being reduced. GWR are slowly scaling down the Class 43 HSTs with some now being exported to Mexico or Nigeria and that moment after mentioning the Patreons/TH-cam members when you walked off.... I did point at the bag on the floor and was saying, Jen you forgot your bag! 😂
Jen has happy hair today!!! Love it tied back it looks great on you. Lovely video Jen, love the smiles
I certainly love this line, having made frequent use of it travelling from Paddington to Newquay and also plenty of local trips from Quintrell Downs too. It always amused my family and me when we came down on the through train from Paddington in the summer, ending up doing about 20mph through the final section from Par to Newquay, but infinitely more relaxing than driving especially as Newquay station is right in the town.
The line itself is crying out for improvement. A few years back I did suggest to GWR having a park and ride (similar to the St Ives one) at St. Columb Road to reduce traffic into Newquay. As St. Columb Road has the space for a second track and Newquay does too, it would be viable to run additionally services to the Par/Newquay trains. With a more frequent service I thought it might encourage greater use of the line and help keep it open...
I wonder if the condition of the canopy at St Austell is like that because of the removal of the old footbridge that was once at the end of the building?
They have had those trains up to Cardiff for a couple of years now, I believe they are called castle sets because all the engines are named after castles. Much better than 150s!
I was once on a XC Voyager that failed to make it up the line and had to return to Par :(
Would be great to do this as a full time job. I work in publishing and love walking. If I lived in the UK I would do this and write a set of books of short walks from every UK station to explore the areas around each station.
Voyagers are more comfy than GWR Hitachis. I don't know how you visited all the stations on the line with infrequent services. Really lovely presentation.
The Metro idea is great if they actually do it. It so so sad that the line has been very deliberately run down for so long. They'll have to put proper money on it.
Jen you absolute GOAT! These vids are sooooooooooooooooooo good, wait.. ALL OF THEM ARE! You Rock
Nice wee video Jen. I think I dreamt this that you had made an anouncement that yourself and Bryn were in a relationship. My brain works in strange ways. XX
Goss Moor bridge was a nightmare in years gone past, there was always a lorry stuck underneath it 😮
To be fair Jen if the only way to St Columb Road station is up that alleyway I don't think I'd be keen to use it
Never say never to parkrun. I found both your channel and parkrun through a certain Geoff Marshall…
Hello Jen I really appreciate your videos! I saw you at Victoria the other day and I really appreciated it 😁
Brilliant video Jen, the service on the Newquay line hasn't been very good in the last few years, only a few trains a day seem to run down it. Also it's a shame most of the HST's are dissapearing on the Cardiff to Penzance service.
Hi Jen
I used to live in barracks at RAF St. Mawgan near Newquay in the early 1980s, and I relied on this line to get out and about. The first train of the day left 10am out of Newquay and took 50 minutes to get to Par, before you could go on anywhere else.
I think there may be an extra train now, and a couple of minutes shaved off travel time! Lots of progress in 40 odd years - not!
Not my favourite place in Cornwall either.
However Luxulyan is stunning! Fantastic walks and much railway history around there.
Cheers,
Paul
Hello, I lived in St Austell for 15 years and up until recently they had the original Victorian footbridge linking the platforms. Further up Bodmin Road, you’ll find the Wheal Martyn museum that will tell you all about China Clay and its impact on the area. Also Roche is pronounced Roach, as in cockroach (classy)
Roche is Cornish for rock. As in Roche Rock.
@@1951morrisdancerI have sat up there
Thx for the lovely walk🩵
Great video, Jen. You have an excellent microphone to cope with all that wind!
I remember the queues for the A30 and that railway bridge - this is so much better!
It seems a shame that the Newquay line is so poorly served, especially as the other branches in Cornwall seem to be rejuvenated…
I rode to Newquay on a 800 in the summer. The service the line receives is appalling and a far cry from what it used to be. ( it needs at least a hour service instead of the current 2 hour one.)
It’s always had a 2 hour one!
Excellent video Jen that looks like an excellent walk for the Summer months.
Proud of you Jen
Another interesting and well presented video
Those road changes made me laugh .. as a kid in the 70s travelling down to Newquay with my parents, we saw road sign indicating a special HOLIDAY ROUTE. My dad took it, as probably all others driver did, but my friend's dad, took the original planned route, I think via Exeter. They arrived at the hotel almost two hours ahead of us. Dad never again took a holiday route
Thanks Jen for another lovely video. I would not worry about doing a park run, you see much more just walking in the countryside !
Love your videos, Jen. You're showing a lot of the country that I've never seen before!
They have been running IET trains on Penzance to Cardiff route for ages, the HSTs are sadly going. My nearest station is on that line
10:50 Oh
Some of those railway stations in Cornwall are kept in good condition. GWR are still the best train operator and they do have the best trains on their network in Southwest England, Thames Valley and the West of England.
Excellent. Your Cornwall train series is great i am ready enjoying it ❤
thanks for pointing out St Austell brewery. I am not a beer guru either but am developing a like for certain darker brews. I see they have a lot of dark, chewy choices which pair great with spicy pizza. Will have to give it a look see on next visit. Till then my health card does not include either beer or pizza but far too many vegetables. St Columb Rd station is a great example of an uncared for station that feels threatening and unfriendly. Which means even fewer people are likely to use it; viscous circle
It's another on Par video plus I spotted a GWR hst in the north the other day so I think some are going to be freight and the rest, Idk tbh so I guess we shall see.....
Those shelters with no glass in the windows seem to be a common GWR thing, there are lots of them at the stations around Bristol for example.
Recovery from surgery might be hard... but it's got to be worth it, right
Newquay getting a train every 2-3 hours is bleeding ridiculous!
You talk about this line - in the past, you were able to take a train from Cornwall directly to Aberystwyth along the coast of Wales - in the older map of Aberystwyth you can see the many lines taking a right turn out of the station and along the Welsh coast - there is still a bit of the line possible to make out.
The IETs are taking over from the Castle HSTs. Spare sets from the Paddington-Bristol TM via Parkway service not happening.
Great video as always but intrigued by your pronunciation of St Austel not a way I have heard before
That’s because it’s not how it’s pronounced
My thought too but have been wrong before. Look at Fowey and its pronunciation 😊
Another cracking video Jen - Ive learnt so much
Great video!
Which is best, the Class 150 or Class 800, that is the question?
Great video Jen. Like you said on twitter, it's not looked after at all compared to the lines
I’m impressed that they have bypassed this natural area with a different road. Refreshing to see that they’re allowing nature to take over.
other end of country to geoff is at the moment . nice train at 1:57.
Got some corny Cornish weather down there in Cornwall, do ya? Well, you know what they say about too much starch in your weather, right?
Tends to make the breeze kinda stiff.
No, don't get up...I'll show myself out.
Auto captions showing Newquay as nuki or Nikki has tickled me for some reason. At first I thiught it was a place in Cornwall I hadn’t heard of and then I worked it out. Can’t see the name sticking 😂
Another fab video. Will you do all the stations in Devon at some point?
Jen, do you ride anything other than 150s and IETs in this series? Like a 158 or a Castle HST
Cornwall Metro wil be great if it happens.
Which is worse a voyager or a 150?
Your hair has become very long 🌷❤️🌹 I really like it
Nice one
Bit of a moist day then? 😉
Your hair keeps doing hair things
As an American citizen, I'll go wherever the next best chip shop is. Newquay & St Austell seems like a good start.
Would have been cool to bring back the tramway
Trains Station 🚉
Very interesting video Jen, but please learn how to pronounce Cornish place names. Being of Cornish descent I am sitting here cringing 😅
