I'm only 4:26 in and very anxious. Geoff's running with the canal on the left-hand side and his phone in his left hand One slip and his phone will go splosh!

When the music towards the end plays, it has me closer to the screen to find out who wins! But that was very close. Epic video and congrats to the winner of the face!
That was very excitingly close; I wonder if Geoff had gone into Piccadilly station via the lower level from London Rd it might have changed the time & result - but I suspect not. (And we'd have just had the two of them racing through the concourse to get outside again!)
I have gone down the lift from Platform levels to the 192 etc Bus stop but dont know how to get up to the platform going the other way.
if the pedestrian access to the Metrolink platform direct from London Road hadn't closed "temporarily" in early 2017 (Spoiler: It's still closed) I reckon Geoff could have met Jen on the platform it was that close.

That Eccles route is one of the slowest tram routes I've been on anywhere. It probably wouldn't be too difficult for even a tortoise to beat it!
The bit beyond Harbour City is quite quick but yeah between Pomona and Media City is depressingly slow.
We all know won that race don’t we! And wasn’t the rabbit!
Geoff is now known as "London Boy"! On the other hand, he got beaten by one of the best, congratulations Jen! Geoff/London Boy is very gracious in defeat. We have to give him that.

A Brummie who has visited Manchester quite a lot. I know how Geoff felt trying to get into Piccadilly. If you not on the main ramp give up! Even following the tram tracks didn’t work. You weren’t allowed to go through the tunnels on foot!
Fantastic Challenge, even if Geoff does get a 'bit lost' on approaching Picadilly?
He went left at end of Whitworth Street, when he should have gone right and used the lifts/escalator @ Fairfield St entrance
He does get excited when he is out of his comfort zone(s) 1- 9
I do love that there is still a route along the canals into the City.
Would make a grand day out, getting the tram out to Media City and walk back.
I'm wondering if Geoff would have won if he'd gone straight along the Rochdale Canal? 🤔
But let's not give him hope or ammo for the future 🤣
The "fiddly bit" around Castlefield to get onto the Rochdale Canal may have actually slowed him down, and then he'd have to come off again at Princess Street - I think he made the right call personally!
Can I just point out the irony is that the 2nd most popular video on Jens channel is the one featuring Geoff Marshall?
....and if Geoff knew Manchester a little better and used the quicker route past the Science and Industry Museum - he would have been line ball close.
Absolutely loving these challenge videos but this was the best so far! Geoff put his heart and soul into that race and the result was so close!!! Love watching you both individually but together was a true pleasure. Great to see another win for the girls and sorry boys, try harder next time! 😂😂

Very well done to the pair of you, that was a very close call...although to be absolutely fair you both had a disadvantage. Jen's tram was late away and Geoff couldn't find his way up from the street level. He ran right past the lift access point which I immediately recognised as I have used it a few times.
But all in all a great test and it was obvious you both enjoyed the experience.
Again, well done for making an enjoyable watch.
On another note Jen, this older London/Suffolk boy will be in Stockport from Monday 3rd of October to Friday 7th October, so if you would like to show me parts of your city that I may have missed the coffees and snacks are on me. You also have my permission to video it if you want to...

Must admit because of the slow journey to Media City, I tend to get a tram on the Trafford Centre line and alight at Imperial War Museum, then stroll over the footbridge. Always quicker

It wasn't unknown for me to get off the bus in Longsight and walk the last bit when I was living down that way!

I managed to walk/jog from Piccadilly to Victoria once in 14 minutes. I surprised myself as I expected it to be near to 20 minutes.

Probably the worst angle to approach Piccadilly from on foot.
Genuinely thought at Castlefield that Geoff was far enough ahead of plan to win though.
(P.s. Geoff missed multiple 250 cakes at Burnage that morning!)

I'm not convinced it would have been that much quicker from where he was! Ideally he should have ended up on the bridge over London Road, but he was one street too far south!

Just goes to show how slow the trams are on some routes in Manchester. They really need to upgrade the Eccles line to be faster. Not sure how though without vast demolition.

London Boy..... seriously made me laugh did that.
Bad luck Geoff. If he'd crossed Merchant's bridge and carried on along Rochdale Canal/Canal Street, then over the footbridge to the front of the station, he'd have won by a couple of minutes easy. Reckon he was screwed over by Jen not giving him decent directions.
He'd have almost definitely got lost trying to get onto the Rochdale canal though, it's tricky if you don't already know!

I'm not convinced, it can be quite slow going round that way. The best way would have been one street to the north then he could have taken the bridge to the forecourt

Well done Geoff for getting through Salford into Manchester via Pomona. I've lived in Manchester for years and still get stranded every time I walk to Old Trafford or Media City. Even worse when someones a wheelchair user. Wish they'd put some more pedestrian friendly routes down.
According to Google maps, it is 5·15km by the shortest walkable route from the BBC at Media City to Piccadilly Station. Admittedly, that route could be heavily populated by pedestrians at certain times, but it's significantly shorter than buggering about on the towpath!

But it also means that anything faster, like a bicycle, moped, is even quicker. I don't know, trams can be useful, but if they not some lightrail version at least with seperate lanes, then it is maybe convenient, but not fast and you rather take the underground if there is any. (O, okay, now i see a video in 'recommended'about a bicycle versus tram 😃. Let's watch that one.
Brilliant video. I’m a runner and am in Manchester in a couple of weeks. I was going to get the tram from Piccadilly to Salford Quays. Maybe I should run it 😂
Never mind the race, the real question is, does Geoff Marshall have nicer legs than Matt Nelson?!! Only, it's a long while since we've seen those, isn't it, Matt?
I'm sure cycling could beat the tram in a number of routes. East Didsbury to City centre for sure. I also think I could beat a tram from the Airport to Victoria on a bike too

Geoff put up a fantastic effort but Jens tram being late made it close, I feel for the average person the team is certainly quicker!
That last bridge before the long slope when he said he took the wrong way, had he gone in the opposite direction there was a side entrance to the station and he would have been there three minutes earlier and she would be buying the Greggs instead.
Oh you can absolutely outrun the tram. Seen people basically at St Peters square run for it and make trams at Market Street

I managed to get lost trying to find a tram at Piccadilly and then chase it on foot all the way to Victoria where I was able to hop on it and continue my journey to Bury after just missing it at pretty much every other intermediate stop!
Just goes to show how slow the Eccles/MediaCity line really is.
