- The Mudlarking Gods were definitely on my side today! And why? Because I found two spectacular artefacts one after the other and this is extremely rare! At least it is for me. I meet up with my good friend and fellow mudlark Kevin from the channel @medwaymammalianmudlark and we head on into central London to do a spot of mudlarking. Watch this video to see what we find and then join me on a fascinating walk in London as we discover more about a certain King.
Special thanks to Jonnie Fielding of @bowlofchalk who takes me on a walk in London where we visit sites related to the doomed King Charles I. This is a video you definitely do not want to miss! You can find Jonnie on social media platforms @bowlofchalk and if you are wanting to arrange a bespoke original walking tour in London then I would highly recommend Jonnie and Bowl of Chalk. You can also find Jonnie's website here :- www.bowlofchal...
Thank you too to Kevin Dyer. Kevin, can't wait to get out for another lark soonest! And thank you to you all for watching.
See you soon. Don't forget you need a permit from the Port of London Authority to mudlark on the River Thames. Find details here:-

See you soon.

Nicola. Thanks so much for having me. Lovely to chat about Charles I. Also ...just a quick update, I mention about doing 'pay what you want' weekend walks in the video, which I did for about 12 years. We filmed this last year and as of January, I moved to having a fixed price (£15 per person), but you can find the details and current schedule on my website.
Thanks Jonnie! I've put your website here too for ease of reference. l'm looking forward to meeting up again soon for another London history walk! www.bowlofchalk.net/
well done! very interesting & informative
What a fascinating adventure today, Nicola! Congratulations on the two Medieval hammereds, but an even greater thanks for introducing us to Jonnie. He is a fascinating storyteller and wealth of knowledge and I could listen to him go on for hours! Brilliant history lesson! Another excellent video, my friend!
Hours! I agree!
Thanks Steve xx

Have walked around London a dozen times as a tourist and had no idea how deep and fascinating was the history I wasn't seeing. Thank you and to Jonnie. That was fun.
...watching from Gilmer, Texas USA. Always enjoy watching your TH-cam Channel Productions, always something wonderful coming out of the foreshore! It's so nice of you to share with everyone, great Job Nic!
Thanks for all you do, it's great watching you since we don't have anything like that around here, lol. Joe
I love your appreciation of the waterfowl!
Great coins and tourguide!!

Hi from NY -Wowie! Can’t believe your great find of the coin. Your eyes amaze me. Keep it up I love watching your videos .
I found that extremely fascinating, I never been to the UK, but eventually I just might get out there. I want to thank you, Nicola and all your followers who sent their condolences, my dad was buried yesterday in a military ceremony in New Jersey. I look forward to future videos, thanks again!

Hi Nicola thank you for your excellent video ❤️🇦🇺🌹 xxx
I iust watched Simon’s latest a couple days ago and he found the same Charles I half penny coin. How cool to both find such a tiny super old little coin that must just blend in with all the black pebbles. Great eyes the both of you!
That Elizabeth 1 coin is an absolute beauty! Well done on finding those tiny hammered coins. The top of the Tudor money box has to be my favourite. Such an interesting story to something I'd easily have overlooked!
Thank you Nicola for such an informative lark i thoroughly enjoyed it. Wishing you a good week.
What a fabulous post today. Well done on your finds it’s so amazing to get this glimpse into the past, the knowledge some people have is mind blowing. Thank you so much for the journey.x
Love all the history we got to learn about Charles I
Well done nicola! You won the egg!
This is such good escapism. ❤️
Hi this is Peggy again. I forgot to tell you we live in South Carolina in the USA!
Kevin rock's! Thank you for the intro. 💜🙏🏼
Great video Nicola, fave just subscribed to Jonnie, and Kevin, 😊
Thank you Amanda! ❤️
I really enjoyed the "tour" that you videoed. It was very interesting as, being American, I did not know these details.
31:28... whose the guy in the black robe carrying a sword?
The tour guide does an excellent job. Little history lessons added to the tour is a very nice touch.
Thank-you Nicola white
You bring each other good fortune!!
What a great video, thanks so much! BTW, The 'hard man', the puritan Oliver Cromwell, has hoped his son would take over when he passed, but his son was more interested in painting and chasing butterflies and such, and had no interest in running a country! So, they invited Charles II back to rule.
Very interesting and always is...have a lovely weekend nicola
Well done, you manifested the finds beforehand.
Nic please some red nail polish on your trowel handle !! or attach a flashy keyring !!! That said if you can find a 7 mm coin in the mud I'm sure that you can find your trowel ! xoxoxo
Half my Family is from the east end, mainly Leyton and Barking, and my Grandfather was a lover of Ryming slang, I think it was bowl of chalk, because there was an even more difficult form of cockney slang which dropped half of the couplet, so "going for a bowl of chalk" became going for a bowl, thus you would be "Bowling down the road" or "Bowling along"

Brilliant Thank you
Really brilliant episode Nicola thank you, very informative and I certainly learned a lot about King Charles 1.
I do have to mention your bowl of keys, that did make me laugh, I hope it’s overflowing 😳🤭
Yahoo! 😊
Hi Nicola, you can call your orphan dinosaur,"Tyrone" osaurus.✌️👍
Really enjoyed this video great as usual ❤
Great coin finds🌻👍🇦🇺
I thought the tour was really interesting. I spent time last week taking a class on Word. This coming week I need to make arrangements so someone can take care of my dog while I go out of town because next Saturday is my best friend's birthday. Unlike this week, because I had my roommate here and didn't have to worry about the dog and cats, next week she's going back to help take care of her father and step-mother.
Viewed images of the Charles the 1St 1/2 penny which was minted with a Tudor Rose. His image is on the penny coin . Your next find .A key to Edward's coin is to ID what those designs are. My treasure is an extra hour of golden sunshine. Daylight savings time kicked in on 3/10 at 3AM . You lose 1 hour of sleep on Sunday morning. For me a mere inconvenience . Sunshine increased from 6:27 PM to 7:27 PM . Sunset on 12/21/23 was 3:54 PM so I have a gain of over 3 hours of sunlight after only 3 months of inconvenience.
Wow Nicola, I really enjoyed that. Visited London three times. This has really been so formative. 🦘🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Looks to be Edward I silver hammered coin (1272-1307)
More specifically the class 3e silver long cross with quatrefoil in the center.
Minted/circulated 1280-1281
Hi Nicola. I noticed in the video with Mud Bagger, whilst you were looking in the first part of the video I noticed what looked like a police whistle and also an oval plaque. Did you see them? Did you check them out?
I’m loving the videos by the way they are helping me post Replacement Knee Surgery. Keep them coming
Chris
I didn't see them! I hope your knee is getting a lot better! xx
Knop?……KNOP? ….What the?
Go and stand in the corner and don the conical hat young lady….
@@ET-yp9vc ….ill hold my hands up , take the conical hat off Nicola , apologise and then wear it myself for the next week in penance ….all I can say is “whoops , serves me right for being a smartarse”
You’re absolutely right of course , I honestly thought it was a typo when she wrote it.
Ya’know what though ? , I’ve never ever heard of the word ? …is it a common word or an old archaic word?
42:43 Appears to be an EDWARD IV (1461-1483). Silver Penny.
Great old find! Wiki says: Edward IV was King of England from 4 March, 1461, to 3 October, 1470, then again from 11 April, 1471, until his death in 1483. He was a central figure in the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars in England fought between the Yorkist and Lancastrian factions between 1455 and 1487.
Wow that’s crazy that Nicola would find two coins on the same trip that highlight two of the most contentious times in the English monarchy. Fascinating! 👑
Thank you very much!
Smashing job Nicola on that hammered coin and great job Kevin on your finds your such a kind person Kevin
Usually I comment on your finds, but today it’s about your partner in the mudlark. He is such a delightful young man! I appreciate that you go larking with other, less known but equally adept TH-cam larkers. You are such a kind, helpful person, always willing to be a teacher. Much love❤TN Nana
THANK YOU Niclola, I absolutely adore learning history. I think that’s why I love your channel so much. ♥️♥️
The Charles I coin is an extraordinary find. How you found such a tiny coin is almost unbelievable. Congratulations to you.❤😊
What a great history lesson. Thank you both. Extremely enjoyable..
Cheers to two great mudlarkers! Lovely to see Kevin in action too. Congrats for finding those hammered coins. Thanks for Jonnie for all the information about king Charles I. Three weeks and I will hit the London streets and foreshore! Happy Days!
For everyone watching this informative history lesson the beautiful horse pointed out by the narrator is called Ormonde and he is being ridden by one of the fabulous female guards. Stunning horsewomen she is. This is a fabulous video. Thank You Nicola for this.
Wow thank you! Do you know her?
@@nicolawhitemudlark no . I live near Chicago and watch videos fro HorseGuards. Ur at fault for me falling in love with all thkng London. Thanks again
oh! wonderful that you know about the horses!! xx@@dbn52
Absolutely loved the bowl of chalk about the king , fascinating story, congrats on finding 2 hammered coins. I've been watching the channel for a few years now and look forward to my Sunday sit down with you .❤
I bet the English breathed a huge sigh of relief when Charles II was restored to the throne. Cromwell ruled with a fist of iron - he actually banned Christmas and Easter! So, for eleven dismal years, the poor English were forbidden to celebrate these 2 occasions, as Cromwell disapproved of all the boozing and gluttony that took place. People were also not allowed to sing - unless it was a hymn. Cromwell the Puritan was a real killjoy!
Good day Nicola what great finds today great job. Thank you for taking us along
Thanks for taking me along with you.Great finds for you n Kevin.
Many, many thanks for taking me out for not only a very exciting mudlark, but also a very interesting tour!
That looked like a shamrock on the second trader's - a perfect little blessing from St Patrick for today's upload!
Hola amiga, te felicito por tu video, muy interesante hallazgos, ese Sello esta muy interesante, te envío un gran saludo y un gran abrazo desde chile 🙋♂️🇨🇱⛏️🗝️💍👍😊🙏👏
Wow, Nicola you really hit it out of the park with this video, if you ever went to school in History class you would never have heard as much info as this fellow Jonnie could tell you. Well done Jonnie and you as well Nic, such an enjoyable Sunday afternoon watching you. Digger Dawn might be doing her special dance if she had found those hammered coins, have a great week as well and again, thank you so much for all your feelings for all your fans, bye for now. Neil from Canada.
Thanks Neil!
This has been your all time best video! Loved your finds….only you could find those teeny, tiny coins, what a find!
The walking tour was absolutely delightful, his humor and knowledge made for a delightful time. Many thank you’s for a lovely visit.
Wel thank you!
I have a manager at work who is a bully, so going outside and observing nature helps me a lot
Bullying is not acceptable, I suggest you record him, and then get a lawyer to inform him that if he doesn't stop, you will sue him, and have a copy sent to his boss.
Bullies are cowards. Dont let him or her bully you! xx
I know how you feel, its hard to deal with it bc they are a manager, here I am in Florida dealing wirh the same thing as you, keep your chin up and keep going. Thank you as well Nicola for such a delightful video.
@@ichbin5200See if creating a hostile work environment is illegal in your state. It is here in California. You should have a Dept. Of Labor in your state. Give them a call & see if it can be stopped. Bosses that are bullies are unacceptable. They use cruelty, yelling, and verbal abuse because they lack the intelligence and maturity to speak in a normal manner to employees.Give calling a try. The call can always start out anonymous until you decide if you can press charges. In many states it's also illegal to fire someone for turning you in. I'd look for a different job while you are in this process. Can you even stand the idea of putting up with that garbage for 10-20 yrs? Life is too short. You can also get an attorney. Some will not want $ up front unless they win in court. There are many things they can sue for. An example is emotional distress, anxiety, loss of sleep, PTSD, depression etc. if you have a doctor you can talk to them and see if they feel it's affecting your health. Promise you can get help.💕
@lordleonusa Doesn't work like that in the UK.The employer is vicariously liable.
Very interesting thank you. Great history lesson. Congratulations on your great finds. Jonnie is a marvellous story teller.
Hi Nicola, more great finds. Love all your finds especially pipes you got me hooked on, lol.
Birds, Hammered Coins, a Dinosaur, & King Charles I with Bowl of Chalk. WONDERFUL ❤
Thank you so much for the informational walk. It was really cool. The coin on the left seems to have ashamrock in the center of it which of course is a symbol of Ireland.😊
I loved the tour. Thank you and he both. Bowl of chalk
Nice to see you opposite Cannon Street Station, Nicola. I was there just yesterday (in a bar by Borough Market!) and looked down at some mudlarkers, thinking of you. Anyway, Cannon St was my regular station in over 25 years of London commuting, I just wish I could have got down on the foreshore back in those days. Best regards. K
❤️
Yes, I've read a little bit about Cromwell and I thought he was something to deal with. But I'm glad he didn't stick around for too long. Your finds today were terrific!! I'll continue to be in awe of what you find.
When you think of the way, history has it we've been so privileged to live now when we have so much more freedom than people ever had. Even though I love history, love learning of history, I think being born in 1962 was spot on.
What I would give to have one day of mud larking down there, just to find something of history!!
Thanks Nicola have a great week and will see you next weekend!!🥰🍻🍻
This was a great video. Not saying that the others you created were not, but I really enjoyed Johnny's talk about King Charles the 1st. Thank you both.
Thank you Steve! So glad you enjoyed it
❤❤ awesome findings with lots of lovely information and mind-blowing history. Really enjoyed London. 😊

I isited Trafalgar Square/horseguards/westminster every weekend of my life as a kid and I learned new things today! Thanks so much. xxx
I always enjoy your posts but this walking tour history of Charles I really kicked it up a notch. I've never been to England so it was a real treat.
Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it
What a wonderful video! I always love watching you find the most interesting things. And you really gave us a treat today with Jonnie’s fascinating Charles I tour around London. My family lived in Wiltshire for 2 years back in the late ‘70’s and still to this day, London is my favorite city. We are now retired in Columbia, South Carolina after my husband’s 30 years in the US Army. The Charles I tour made me very nostalgic for my visits to your great city. I may have to come back for a visit soon. Thank you Nicola.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks to the birds
Great video Nicola, it was nice to see Kevin, he has been missed. And of course, you found two hammered coins!! Great walk of history with Jonnie! Thanks
27:17 “Sticky Uppy Bits”!! omg I just got so excited😅 Every year I have a Sam Collins “sticky uppy bits” square on my F1 Bingo card. Tech Talk
I had the urge to instinctively grab my Bingo card when I had to remind myself, “Wait, you’re watching Mudlarking not F1.”
Hehehe seriously, I got waaay too excited for that.
Trying to be brief: The hammered silvers are simply too much! Here in the US, digging an early head KGII is a big accomplishment. Not forgetting your other finds such as the moneybox top. and then--the bowlofchalk tour complete with history; honestly I enjoyed it so much. Thank you, Nicola!
So nice to see Kevin on your channel - he's one of my favorite people. The finds were lovely!
I am not sure that the Civil War was "Royalists versus everybody, which was Parliament" because I have heard it said (by a folk musician with a deep voice who might have been Dave Burland) that "the people of England had a deep distaste for the civil war and both sides in particular." Given the appalling punishments that Cromwell and Parliament visited on anyone, such as Gerrard Winstanley, who tried to actually exercise the freedoms that Parliament had asked them to fight for, I can see the truth in that quote.
Thank you so much Nicola, that was a couple of marvellous finds and the bowl of chalk walk was so informative. I always learn something watching your videos.
Just the greatest 🙂♥️
I love seeing the eating Raven and Egyptian geese. Thanks for the tour, it is fabulous. My only tour ever!
Yes ,always with the great wildlife.
Hi Nicola what a another wonderful episode with some wonderful finds then and unexpected history lesson all generated from those two fantastic finds odf old silver coins.Your videos are always such a great combination of history wildlife and your wondefull commentary and the glimpses of all the wildlife you encounter rnot forgetting your pet squirrell

Thankyou Nicola….as ever a thoroughly fascinating watch….makes me want to be there again but only for a second as not able to walk far!
Really enjoyed that historic tour. Thanks so much.
Wonderful. What amazing finds & such interesting facts about your finds. Thank you.
