    I do coat my bikes and my cars as well. For my cars I do PPF and ceramic coating, the bikes are just cermaic coated. When they are clean, the shine is incredible. My Aethos has a matte finish and ceramice coating it did not change the look once it was dry.

    I’ve had good results with silicone spray (e.g. Jigaloo) to protect the paint on my steel bike. It buffs up to a slippery high gloss shine that repels dirt. I rarely wash my bike. After a muddy ride, I just let it dry indoors and brush off the dirt and vacuum the floor.

    What’s your thought on applying RideWrap following ceramic coating?

    • @timothygermann780
      @timothygermann780 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would want to use the ceramic coating OVER the ride wrap if you went that route. The coating gives the bike the hydrophobic property which helps it shed dirt and wash easier. Ceramic coatings are better than the factory clearcoat but but aren't fully scratchproof.
      Apply the Ridewrap first to prevent scratches to the bike frame then the coating to keep everything clean.
      That's how its done on cars anyway. Assume its the same for bikes.

    #askgcntech Nice video Ollie! Question though, when you say it bonds to the lacquer, does that mean that it also removes some lacquer as it wears down too?
    Also, what's the best thing to do for a bike that's down to the paint and now the paint is wearing? I have an older bike that's had a rough life and some of the paint is deteriorating. Would waxing, ceramic coat, or something else revive the finish and make it shine again?

    If you really want to get the frame clean use a clay bar with lube to ensure it doesn't scrape or leave swirls them dry off and use alcohol rub before applying the ceramic coat. Remember TROW AWAY the applicator pad and the microfiber towel as once the ceramic coat dry’s it's going to crystallise and then if you use this on your bike it will scrape it to bits.

    • @joeblack7469
      @joeblack7469 ปีที่แล้ว

      Terrible advice ^ absolutely do not do this. There’s no way of claying a bike that won’t leave marring on the paint. It’s also completely unnecessary on a bike because a bike doesn’t get the contaminants a car does. If you really want it clean give the bike a once over with a paint cleanser before prepping the frame, that’s what I did.

      They protect against scratches but aren't hydrophobic. The ceramic coating helps water and muck rinse off. I have the coating on my car and it always looks clean and shiny even when I don't wash it for a while. If you want the scratch protection of a wrap, do that first THEN apply the coating to keep it clean. Not sure how much all that weighs though..

The bike was prepped by washing it and using the frame prep provided and applying in 50 degree F outside with 50 % humidity. It was applied in stages and wiped off but I waited 3-4 minutes not 1-2 minutes . Apparently wiping off as late as I did was the problem. This is not mentioned anywhere on their website or in the instructions provided. It was a disaster. I am having it removed by a professional auto detailer and letting them apply their ceramic . Such a disaster. Instructions are way to vague for DIYs
