    I had to work some long hours on this, trying to get it out in a reasonable time frame. I hope you enjoy what is an episode about, in my opinion, one of the most influential people in modern armwrestling. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. I tried my best to keep it interesting but I'm sure this episode will attract a couple of mixed reviews. I welcome it!

      20 years of Zloty Turs, other tournaments under the PAL banner, Vendetta supermatches, and what I would describe as the pinnacle of what he did, the Top 8 which truly represented the highest level of armwrestling as a supermatch format. The athletes had 3 fixed dates for the Top 8 in Malaysia, China, Poland with 3~ months between each stage which allowed them to truly prepare to the best of their ability. I loved to watch it and also for the content that was produced around it.

    • @datbunneh3671
      @datbunneh3671 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TimmyTurner421 Personally I always believed Top 8 to be the dumbest idea of all. Having a limited roster of 8 athletes is stupid. Having random drafts among those 8 athletes is beyond stupid. Half of the matches happening there had no sense at all. If that's the pinnacle then I struggle to fathom what would you call EvW, KoTT, WAL or old Arm Wars which all had way better matchups and eventful fights. I'm so happy Top 8 died this fast. It would've died naturally anyway but luckily it did not impede AW for much longer by having athletes on a leash and effectively preventing better matches from happening.

    • @TimmyTurner421
      @TimmyTurner421 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@datbunneh3671 Well, you know, that's just like uh, your opinion, man. It really doesn't matter what you think, the reality was that Top 8 had the best armwrestlers on the planet at that time all facing each other. I don't give a damn if the matches entertained you or not. You realize that armwrestling is also a sport, and not exlusively entertainment? I wanted to see who is the #1 armwrestler on the planet and the Top 8 ultimately determined that this human being is Levan Saginashvili.
      "If that's the pinnacle then I struggle to fathom what would you call EvW, KoTT, WAL"
      What a silly comment. I said Top 8 was the pinnacle of what he did. I didn't say the Top 8 is the pinnacle of all time. Perhaps you lack reading comprehension? I would suggest you to read my comment again. Btw, KOTT and EvW didn't even exist back then. Completely irrelevant to the comment I made. You must be new to armwrestling. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got better things to do than educating random people on the internet.

    • @datbunneh3671
      @datbunneh3671 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TimmyTurner421 Wow. Nice to have *the best* (arguably) arm wrestlers on the planet facing each other... but forget to mention they were all from at least three separate weight classes. Yes, right. Just 8 athletes from different weight classes. Glorious. Did somebody just mention AW being a sport and trying to *educate* people? Of course you could argue that it's "open" class yada-yada. But yeah, let's put Prokopchuk against Levan then. The guy is also the best, right? That match makes total sense, ain't it? And even in terms of what Mazurenko did a regular Vendetta was the apex of his creation and not Top 8. Because it had cherry picked matches that people actually wanted to see and not some retarded random draft among a fixed roster. And don't forget, your opinion is also just an opinion Mr. Teacher Educator sir.

    if he only didnt wanted to control/restrict his athletes, his brand could have become the ufc of armwrestling today... he had all the structure, all contacts, money invested etc, but the mind wasnt there for it...
    so happy engin and kott (with a figure like larry wheels to promote it up) showed up to compete with his brand and show how things should be done for the best of the sport itself, not bureaucratic organizations. if they werent there, probably igor's archaic/controlling view of armwrestling promotion would dominate the sport even more today, hiding behind the figure of levan (who was their main athlete/figure to promote their brand)

    When it comes to the world of sports, armwrestling seems to be unique in the sense that it seems to follow the UFC path. What I mean by that is the blend of sports and entertainment although armwrestling still has quite a journey to go in order to reach where UFC is at. But nevertheless, things are moving incredibly fast and as a promoter and organizer, you just cannot drag your feet even for a day. We now see how KOTT and EvW have emerged to become the biggest money making events in AW history in the absence/inactivity of PAL and WAL. In fact EvW has become a sort of Mecca for armwrestling. The landscape has definitely changed and if PAL and WAL were to get rolling again, the old ways of promoting and organizing aren't going to work.

    Zloty Tur is basically where the history of european armwrestling has been written! It's such a shame that when he saw the possibility of something bigger (during COVID) he decided to just tease and try to have the complete control over the sport because he was convinced he was the only good alternative. He could have been what is Engin today but he completely missed the train

    in our post-soviet region, VK is the equivalent of a FB, so we had a PAL/armwreslting group there. At some point, vendettas and zloty tours have become PPV events, which naturally raised questions among some demographic. So Igor always went there in comment sections and was calling them poor in rood form and etc. And it was happening for a prolonged period of time.
    Although i think he had all the right to make events PPV, him going in comments and personally confronting every commentator was a big WTF for me.
