Doing this sort of. Going to use a heavy hard wood, kind of a natural stain. Oak looks great for this or Mesquite wood, building the frame out of 1 inch square tubing and going to fab all this up in my shop. Thinking of even drilling into the tubing and running my wires through the frame itself. Hoping it turns out as crisp as yours
I’m moving this weekend. Wife and I are dedicating a bedroom to become a gaming room. Definitely getting rid of our Arozzi desks for butcher block custom desks. I hope I have an epic set up like this by the time we are done.
Looks really nice. I guess I'm picky because my problem with most of these countertops is the depth at only 25 inches. I think 30 inches makes a better desk, but they are harder to find.
Hi @kungfupandas1! The butcher block is holding up very well as a desk, not being exposed to water and other types of use it would find in a kitchen definitely helps. I haven't done a deep cleaning on it, but I will probably use a tiny bit of the walrus oil or wax.
Hi Bear! I actually took that photo for the top monitor and did the edit. If you want to DM me on Instagram or something, I can send it to you that way (@jakevirdentech). The bottom McLaren F1 I got on Wallpaper Heaven, they have lots of cool wallpapers. I appreciate you checking out the video!! wallhaven.cc/w/pkmqy9
Great job! I'm in the midst of deciding on a new desktop myself. I'm also looking at 5 foot Butcher Blocks from HD. My issue is that they are unfinished and I would have to buy the sander to smooth it down and then finish it. It shouldn't be a big deal but those fumes in my apartment for a few days wouldn't be good. And it's freezing outside right now so I can't open any windows. I do have an enclosed back porch area but it's unheated so I have some planning to do. I have a VIVO dual motor standing leg set for the base. I've used dual side-by-side for years but I'm considering stacked or a vertical second monitor. I also picked up a 14 inch portable touchscreen monitor to explore a three monitor setup. I've got some new, smaller speakers and some other gear but the desk is holding me up.
Thank you @Zaxbox, much appreciated!! Yea the DIY can be a bit tricky if you don't have the tools or space directly available. I will say the Walrus Oil finish I did would be perfect for your scenario, It does not have any type of scent or fumes and does not have any chemicals. There might be some good finished options out there, I will have a link below from Home Depot. I've done Stacked Monitors for a long time and I really like them, I have always wanted to try a vertical setup but haven't quite had the setup for it. Thanks again for checking out the video!! www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-6-ft-L-x-39-in-D-Finished-Engineered-Walnut-Butcher-Block-Island-Countertop-PWORAB389901880/318686506
i say upgrade that boom arm i used too use thar for 4 year till ti springs up even if i tight the screw so i got a elgato low profile are mi soon upgrade my elgato arem too the thronmax twist boom arm aka lowprofile arm you cna use your webcam and or cellphone too it but not bad setup
Why go with a cooking oil instead of polyurethane? Just curious, since it reduces the durability of the desktop and has to be reapplied whereas the poly finish is more semi permanent?
Cutting board is so easy to use a 4 year old could do it without messing up. And since this never going to be used like a cutting board the finish will actually last significantly longer than you may be thinking.
Thank you @anibalhuneeus! It has definitely been a minute since I have done a video with the M15/ laptops. Might do one on a thermal paste swap if I get back around to it. I certainly appreciate you sticking around and checking out my videos!
looks great desk and all. Love warm colors agree on the eyes to. I have ikea lol Karbly I going to changed to different butcher block called PINNARP looks like your desk with the same design. Ill sub and like man great video and setup looks epic
Thank you Josh!! The Ikea Karly setups always look very nice, just wanted to do a DIY setup and there isn't an Ikea super close to me lol. The PINNARP looks very nice too! Thank you for checking out the video and your support!
Setup will look even better if you paint the walls a more neutral warm white and the paint/stain your shelves and the new backdrop from white to the same neutral tone that you have on your butcher block. Currently, the setup is clashing with a lot of colors.
Thank you for checking out the video Hassan! I do like the all warm wood tones like you mentioned, I might swap the shelves for some stained wood shelves.

I want to build one too! How has the countertop aged? Is home depot plenty durable and quality?

What game were you playing when you were talking about your top monitor?
Bit of an older title, but that was Warframe.
Oh thanks.
Looks amazing !
