  • Our species is finally turning toward other species for their embodied wisdom, borrowing these insights to solve challenges such as delivering nutrition in a way that nourishes both planet and people. Biomimicry author and visionary Janine Benyus shows how nature-inspired breakthroughs in agriculture are evolving from plant-focused "silver bullets" to system-savvy healing. She gives us a sneak preview of the amazing entries in the Biomimicry Global Design Challenge in food systems. She explores how the "democratization of invention" is growing more biomimetic - as teams turn to nature together, in massive parallel, to discover a multitude of wild ideas that work together as a system. Cooperation, naturally enough, is the best way to learn from life's genius!
Introduction by Paul Hawken, author, activist, entrepreneur.
This speech was given at the 2016 National Bioneers Conference.
Since 1990, Bioneers has acted as a fertile hub of social and scientific innovators with practical and visionary solutions for the world's most pressing environmental and social challenges.

I once introduced one of Janine's ideas to some of my students, who were all amazed. It was an awesome experience not just for me but for them as well.

I love that introduction. Makes me want to paint Janine Benyus as Liberty Leading the People like Delacroix. We need hope and I get it watching her speak.

The first time I heard of carbon sequestration through farming was from an interview of Freeman Dyson. He didn't go into great detail, but suffice to say, if he advocated it then it is a good idea. Loved the video btw.

There is only 5 million people living in Slovakia...so 19 million people growing on their balconies is quite absurd...makes me wonder what source is Benyus using...

She said central Europe, and the inventors are from Slovakia. Besides how about concentrating on the idea rather than worrying about peripheral data?
