    top 2 things to keep on top of in cast iron maintenance are getting rid of carbon build up which is main reason seasoning flakes. Great way to do this is wash your pans w/soap and chainmail scrubber and 2nd is dry the pan w/towel then again w/heat on stovetop and plz use a timer so you don't forget about it.

    Does it have to be done over fire or can it be seasoned in glass top ?

    I use baking soda. It absorbs grease.

    soap is not abrasive and will not remove any non-stickyness that is mis information. People wash your pans
